CanadasElite 1 Posted March 14, 2013 I'm curious to see if diving and SCUBA diving will be realistic along with everything else. As most of us know we can't go very deep without our ears hurting and you have to re-pressurize (or clear the negative space in our ear) as we go along because of the crushing forces of the water above. There should be some sort of system implemented into it, for example diving deep fast would rupture your ears and you would no longer be able to hear or if they didn't rupture then for a period of time you would be deaf and if you ascended too quickly your blood would 'boil' and your character would begin to writhe in pain as would be expected. And things like explosives in the water rupturing your ears (and other organs depending on how strong the shock wave is) should be added as well. There's a lot of things that could be added but those are really the big ones and I kind of hope they are as the game is polished more and more.
BigMorgan 11 Posted March 14, 2013 This seems like fertile ground for a realism mod, but I can't imagine why BIS would implement changes like these given the balance Arma 3 is clearly striving to achieve in the realism vs. accessibility spectrum. Would be fun to have a diving mod that adds in more gear and more possibilities for missions though! :D
Fuse 1 Posted March 14, 2013 (edited) It would be cool to see the pressure wave from explosions realistically modeled under water, because it really will tear your organs apart. Since the human body is mostly water the pressure wave will transfer directly from the water, through your body, and in to your squishy bits. This is why welding underwater is so dangerous, trapped gasses can explode and it really doesn't take much of an explosion to cause serious internal injury. Equalizing pressure isn't as big a deal as you seem to think. When you go down a bar or so of pressure you pinch your nose and try to blow through it. Unless you have sinus issues this will "pop" your ears every time, and you do it without even noticing. You never hold your breath while diving so your lungs don't rupture. The only real considerations are the bends and nitrogen narcosis. These are dependent on your depth, gas mix, and time spent at depth. I don't know a lot about military divers, but I'd imagine they dive on nitrox and stay at relatively shallow depths, because having to do a safety stop in hostile territory sounds like a bad plan. Disclaimer: It's been years since I last dove, so apologies if I've mixed something up. Edited March 14, 2013 by Fuse
cifordayzserver 119 Posted March 14, 2013 You guys should join my group! http://forums.bistudio.com/group.php?groupid=291 Also check out this Arma2 mod in the works! I'm hoping BI take LOTS of pages from this guys book! http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?117196-Diving-Under-Water
kilrbe3 37 Posted March 14, 2013 Correct me if I'm wrong too, but bullets fired from shore also don't go underwater, they just hit the surface like a wall. Also you get spotted on the ground of the ocean scuba'ing really easy.. I mean its fresh new grounds for BIS and swimming/diving. The kinks just need to work out, maybe expand on some features. But Feint and his awesome work, a mod will make this AMAZING!
Tonci87 163 Posted March 15, 2013 You guys may want to read this thread: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?149102-Feedback-amp-Suggestions-Diving-and-underwater-combat Grenades already have a bigger blast radius if you use them in he water, at least I think so. becubed 24 Posted March 16, 2013 Correct me if I'm wrong too, but bullets fired from shore also don't go underwater, they just hit the surface like a wall. That may have been the case but there is now supercavitating ammo that overcome this limitation
