Tankbuster 1747 Posted January 16, 2013 You want the 'persistent battlefield' parameter in your server details. See about a third of the way down this page. http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/server.cfg ---------- Post added at 12:27 ---------- Previous post was at 12:22 ---------- Important info above. Additional info below. :) Persistent battlefield means the server won't unload the mission when the last player leaves, so when you rejoin, it will be more or less where you left it. The time of day in the mission will change, ie time isn't frozen, and the AI, if there are any (on the server) will continue to go about their business. You might want to look into a dedicated server tool (DST), if you haven't already. I use the excellent Tophe TA2DST. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?104991-Tophe-s-ArmA2-Dedicated-Server-Tool-%28TA2DST%
Gunter Severloh 4067 Posted January 16, 2013 persistent = 1; Enables or disables the persistent battlefield. Default = 0.

kilrbe3 37 Posted January 17, 2013 Oh my, you are hosting the server via your PC. Yes you have to leave your Laptop on for the server to stay up, or it will shut down when your laptop goes to sleep/shutdown. FYI, leaving a laptop/desktop on all day, is hardly raising a electricity bill. Yes it will raise it, but not breaking the bank here. If you want the server on all day, buy a game server from a server hosting company. Here's a link to help you understand the .cfg file for the server and persistent = 1 http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/server.cfg
Gunter Severloh 4067 Posted January 17, 2013 Where do I put that? do I use the whole sentence or just the persistent=1? Just put Persistent=1; Look at the Example Configuration File you'll see it listed in there under // INGAME SETTINGS in the server.cfg.
stk2008 14 Posted January 17, 2013 If your using the tool i linked ya to there is a tick box to make server persistant
SavageCDN 231 Posted January 17, 2013 I'm not sure what laptop you have but can almost guarantee it will have problems running a 24/7 dedicated server if you are planning to have any number of players on at the same time. As mentioned your best bet is a slotted rental server which will have all the setup tools available for you.
soldia 1 Posted January 17, 2013 And the electricity is wasted somewhere else. Have you ever tried to host a game with your laptop?
stk2008 14 Posted January 17, 2013 Dont servers cost a lot though? Seeing as he was worried about the laptop being on 24/7 and using electricity surely a rented server is going to be over his budget. I have ran a dedi server not on a laptop though as stated whats the specs of this laptop?.
Gunter Severloh 4067 Posted January 17, 2013 Servers cost are dependent on what game, how many slots, location of the server, and who your getting it from, expect a min server rental to cost you $35+ a month with min of 20-30 slots.
stk2008 14 Posted January 18, 2013 Ummm supose that aint to bad to be honest not that I have that amount of spare cash I just use my old computer seems to work ok for 5 of me mates. I would not want to go over 5 I would expect it would not handle it I have 30mb fibre optic BB and the upload is 2mb so not great tbh.
soldia 1 Posted January 18, 2013 35/5 is 7 bucks per months...and you don't need to pay the electricity (which should not be underestimated in some countries).
