Create a super high res screenshot? (4k and larger)

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm looking to create screenshots from Arma 2(+ mods like DayZ/Wasteland) at a really high resolution - preferably up to 7000x5000 pixels. This is for use in printed images - Uniwork.

Obviously this isn't for playing with, so FPS and all that does not matter.

Does anyone know of any method to do this? Any and all help would be appreciated! :)

I guess you'll be limited to 2560x1600, unless you make multiple screenshots and put them together with photoshop.

On my nvidia card I can select resolutions higher (2560x1600) than my monitor res (1920x1200) if I turn on gpu scaling in the control panel. That kind of res with antialiasing (or maybe higher 3d res, if it works) should get you very good image quality.

You can run the game in 3840 x 2080 resolution (windowed mode).

Not sure though if that is the maximum resolution supported by the game, or if it is a limit imposed by my poor HW.

Afaik, there is no hardware released (your 5970 included) that can display more than 2560x1600 per output.

@OP: You can obviously get an image composed from smaller parts, or you can use some sort of blow up software (there might be certain artifacts).

you dont have to display it pufu, just screenshot it :P just have to find a way to force the window bigger.

OP here.

So far I've been able to get it to run @ 3264x2040. My screen is 1920x1200 and is having issues actually displaying anything larger, although the GPU will output the image (I pressed print screen whilst the monitor was having a fit) at that size I can not view anything while at that resolution (ie cant open the game up and change settings to take high res SS).

Been using Nvidia custom res' to get this btw.

Been testing stitching them together with PS CS6 and Hugin, this is the first result to have half worked:

Panoramic photo stitching software will work, I've used such software before. Your stitching software will likely have an option adjust gain to avoid light/dark areas, as real cameras do the same thing when left on auto mode.

For best results, use Arma's script commands to freeze time and maybe fix the camera exposure.

Course, you'd need a hit round the head if you've been doing panoramas on auto mode :P

No idea about Arma's scripts, but I have been working on large image compositions.

don't know if this would work but maybe open the arma 2 cfg files and manually alter the resolution from there

Maybe you can try faking it. Take 1 screenshot, duplicate it, blow them up x2 with nearest neighbour filtering, overlay 1 over the other, set the top one to 50%, then offset it 1 pixel up and 1 pixel vertically and 1 pixel horizontally.
