sagehorn 1 Posted September 5, 2012 Statistically, the tanks fall on their heads too often.. Okay, i have no proofs for that, but who has ever seen a tank, lying on his top? (Please no evidence pics now) When i play warfare mods - and I do this regularly - every fifth AI tank is unusable because of this problem. And yes, it happens especially in Takistan.. But it's an official map.. and it's the most popular.. So, one small suggestion: Maybe you should multiply the tank weight by 2 or 5.. Or whatever, you made that game ;) PS: And yes, there are threads with that issue..
maturin 12 Posted September 5, 2012 It's not every fifth tank... unless you are ordering tanks to scale rocky mountain ravines that would disable them in real life as well.
sagehorn 1 Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) Ok, let me say it in other words: No matter what situation war would bring, the on-top-rate is too high ^^ a tank is too heavy, that this could happen so often. but maybe it's just my opinion edit: perhaps, you could let the tank rather slide than tilt/flip. especially the flat tanks (m1a1) would look a bit more realistic Edited September 5, 2012 by Sagehorn
maturin 12 Posted September 5, 2012 It's a specific physics glitch that can occur when rolling over rocks and low walls. ArmA III will fix it.
Laqueesha 474 Posted September 6, 2012 In ArmA 1, a T-72 would fly hundreds of meters into the air after running over a boulder. In ARMA 2, it's less prevalent, but it happens sometimes.
max power 21 Posted September 6, 2012 Sometimes if tanks spawn on rocks they will high centre, bounce, and flip over. If you're seeing flipped over tanks, chances are it was spawned on a rock or other pointy object. It doesn't have anything to do with the normal driving physics per se, but the collision model flipping out. I think at a distance this is more likely to happen because the physics engine is optimized to be less detailed if the unit is not on the screen, but this is just my guess. I can certainly attest to that: even the slightest rock can unflip a tank, though it doesn't send it flying like in ArmA 1. Guess, we'll have to wait for ArmA III with PhysX to correct vehicle weight values.
dmarkwick 261 Posted September 6, 2012 I guess this problem is mostly Takistan related? Because I play almost exclusively in Chernarus and I never see an upturned tank. Ever. In any case, new physics engine will produce new behaviors.

We had tanks flying in vanilla ArmA II release on Chernarus. Although, it wasn't as pronounced as on Takistan due to rocks being the culprits, which are in abundance there. BasileyOne 10 Posted September 11, 2012 physics resolution/frequency wasn't serious enough to talk about handling such things :[ "fixing" that in another beta-patch could cause serious performance drop, beyond playability.
