starstreams 0 Posted June 22, 2002 I just put a G4 Ti4400 Gold sample/128DDR in my system, when I hit the Auto detect button in the OFP set up menu, it defaults to the D3D driver, but there is also another D3D with Transform lighting hardware support, why doses the game not choose that option by default? Should I be using this? I can not understand why this game doses not play like glass on my system considering I’m running one of the fastest consumer video cards available. I’m also running the game at 32 bit color, but my system is tweaked well, no unnecessary back ground services running. This game should play like glass, but I get lag in the mouse. I have all the MS updates and drivers are all updated on my system. ===== I’m running OFP 1.46 and Red Hammer -WinXP pro -Ausu cusl2_c 815-chipset Gforce 4 Ti4400 750XP G Sample -PIII 800EB cpu -DirectX8.1 -512 mb’s PC 133 cas2 10K/rpm scsi hard drive
Skulleye 0 Posted June 22, 2002 Yeah, i got really disappointed when I bought the GF4 Ti4400 and found out that the performance difference weren't that different from the GF2 GTS 32 MB.
Mister Frag 0 Posted June 22, 2002 With an 800MHz processor and 100MHz/133MHz bus, you are CPU-limited. To eliminate the apparent lag when moving the mouse, download a tweaking program such as RivaTuner and set the number of frames to pre-render to 1. DO NOT set it to 0 (which is an option with most tweaking utilities), or your system will hang with any DirectX game, as well as during the video tests of the DirectX diagnostics. starstreams 0 Posted June 23, 2002 I'll have to give that utillity a shot, I think I've seen it at MegaGames! Thanks ya, I'm going to be building a system soon, just need to get the cash. O, I should probably ask while I have a chance. Do you guys know how to make the compute yell out a location? I have no problems reading the map, but when my commander in a multiplayer game asks me “Where am I†I don’t know how to respond? The Action menu doses not seem to have an option to call for support when I’m on foot. Is there a button I need to hit somewhere? I here people calling out their location all the time: It is not a real voice, but them making the computer talk. Also, do you guys know how to drop your weapon in the game if it gets too heavy? Sorry for all the questions, but the book that came  with the game is very limited as far as using all your map tools and I've already been to the Avon Lady's web site. btw, how do you guys like these shots? I took some of them, Not all. http://starstreams3.tripod.com/ofp.htm
Mister Frag 0 Posted June 23, 2002 There is no way to call out your location, or a need to. Just ignore it. I looked at the screenshots you took, they look nice. I'm wondering, though, you seem to be running without FSAA. With that video card, why don't you enable it? It would make the display much nicer. Also, setting the LOD in the OFP Preferences to the smallest permissible number (far right position) and using RivaTuner to force a LOD Bias of about -1.5 will enhance the display even further. r71 0 Posted June 23, 2002 Its got to be something on your system because its not the card. I have a 600 P3 with GF3 and it did not have mouse lag and I had somewhere around 384 ram. In fact it ran fine with a load of AI and setviewdistance 2000. I now have a 2.4 P4 1024 pc 800 GF4 ti 4600 and nothing seems to slow it down even at 5000 view and t ton of units it only slows down just a touch at times. both of the comps are from Gateway. I sold the 600 to a friend and he plays online with me and says it runs fine.
starstreams 0 Posted June 23, 2002 ya, I had the FSAA set to game controled, I guss I need to force it. I got the Riva 2.0, Very cool program. one thing though, when I go to type in -1.5 into Riva's Load Bios Range, it chages the value I typed to 15? btw, I have the Riva in my system try now, doses that program need to lod with windows for it to work? I mean if I use it to over clock the card, dose it need to run when windows runs?
Mister Frag 0 Posted June 23, 2002 I'm not sure where you are able to enter the Mipmap LOD Bias, the version I have uses a slider, not a text edit control. If I select a negative number, it stays negative. If you use RivaTuner to overclock your card, don't use the NVIDIA Control Panel applet to do the same thing. As long as the "Apply overclocking at Windows startup" box is checked, you are good to go, but overclocking does not have to be done at startup, you can change the frequencies at any time. starstreams 0 Posted June 23, 2002 Ya, it doses not have sliders, only blank fields to type into. the version I have it 2.0. I got it here http://www.megagames.com/news....gi?http btw, I tried to set up the voice feature from the setup icon: The sound hardware test wizard says my sound hardware cannot play sounds. This dosen't make sence becouse I have Creative Labs newest gameing card. It is an Audigy Gamer EAX Gaming card. I might have to use RW if I can not figure this out, do you guys know how to disable the defult OFP chat program? I've heard that is messes with RW
alx 20 Posted June 23, 2002 I've just upgraded from a Geforce2 GTS to a Geforce4 Ti4200 (64Mb) and it's been the best Å150 I've spent in a long time (for UK readers, I got this excellent deal from dabs.com, while places like PC World are selling the lowly MX for Å279 and didn't even have any Ti's in their store!!!) My system is a Dell Dimension 4100 PIII 933 MHz i815 chipset 512 Mb RAM (PC133) 19" Dell Trinitron monitor SoundBlaster 1024 I evaluate my OFP performance using FRAPS v.1.7A (from www.fraps.com). With the Geforce2 GTS I used to use 1024 x 768 resolution, largely with the OFP preferences recommendations (except I used HW T&L). No tweeking of the Geforce. fps were up to 35 or so and down to 15 or so. I have been playing with this setup since early July last year and found it just fine. The expected slow-downs with multiple AIs but nothing un-playable. Still an engrosing experience. Now with the Geforce4 I have resolution at max (1600 x 1200) and with ALL settings at max. I now get slightly *faster* fps! I found that the Geforce4 was slower with lesser settings. Interestingly, it performs better the more you throw at it. Actually that's not strictly true. I have antialiasing and Vsync turned off but the slow-down caused by these was only a few fps. I'm sure there is more I can do to slightly tweek this. Now I can see things so more clearly and sharply. Aiming at soldiers in the distance is so much better. It's completely rejuvinated OFP and other games like Colin Mcrae Rally 2. It should make OFP:R absolutely brilliant (no pun intended). My experience therefore suggests that a Geforce4 Ti 4200 is a good investment and that you'll get the best from it if you go the whole hog and throw about as much work towards it as you can. One caveat is that my Dell system has always been a very well set-up, robust and fast machine. Not quite sure how Dell does it. Alx

I’m now running at 4X FSAA for D3D and the response is a little tighter. There are a few loose ends I need to tie if anyone can fill me in. if you could give me the answers numbered, that would help, here goese. 1. What doses increasing Max lights do? 2. What are cloudlet’s (in the Video setup menu)? 3.      Do you have your D3D driver set to T&L or just D3D? 4. in the FSAA properties of my card, what is the difference between: (A) Quincunx Antialiasingâ„¢  (B) 4X or © 4xS (Direct 3D only)

Die Alive 0 Posted July 3, 2002 Ok guys, I just got my GF4 4400 and I need some info please. First off, what are the best drivers to use. I went to the nVIDIA website and got the latest ones. Now just by reading this thread, I now should get RivaTuner and tweak it here and there.... anyways, let me rip out this voodoo 5 and install this baby. TAKE OUT THE SUCK, PUT IN THE GOOD! -=Die Alive=-
Epyon9283 0 Posted July 3, 2002 I just got a radeon 8500 128mb and my framerate increased a little but now Im running full detail, 16x anistropic filtering, and for some reason the lighting is a lot nicer now. Im pretty happy. BTW, my old card was a gf2 gts.
Die Alive 0 Posted July 3, 2002 Now I'm stuck big time. Ok, what would cause my monitor not to turn on? It turns on with my old voodoo 5, but when I install the GF4 it doesnt turn on (it shows an orange light, not the normal green). I take out my new GF4 and reinstall my voodoo5 and the monitor turns on when I boot my computer. The GF4 is in there properly, screwed, tight and all, the monitor is plugged in and everything, it's sitting with it's orange light on, but when I boot the computer with the GF4, it never turns on/goes green. I don't have a 2nd computer to try it on, I think I'm just going to return to the store and see if they can see what the problem might be. I just got this monitor in December (it's a NEC), and works with the voodoo, but not the GF4. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a step i'm missing? Or is the card that's FUBAR? -=Die Alive=-
deadagain 0 Posted July 3, 2002 Make sure you do a complete uninstall of your voodoo drivers. If not, you can have conflicts.Do a clean install of your nvidia drivers(29.42 are good for me) after the voodoos are gone.Lots of good info at GURU3D.com.
starstreams 0 Posted July 3, 2002 Its fine now and I reinstalled my entire OS so it was not the voodoo drivers. the system is a bottle neck to the card. anyway I’m running the latest Detonators. So far I am very happy with this card. Here are some beautiful shots I took on my Gforce4, a few of the shots were not taken by me must most of them were. Hope you’re on a cable modem http://starstreams3.tripod.com/ofp.htm
