A C-130 air tanker aircraft plunges to the ground after breaking up in the air while fighting a fire near Walker, California, June 17, 2002. Assault (CAN) 1 Posted June 18, 2002 The irony of it all is the fact that a fire-fighting plane crashed into a forest and probably caused even more fires. I guess the wings just snapped from stress, those planes carry heavy loads and can be a bit old, combine this with the amount of flight time they see. It's unfortunate. People have tv and video cameras closeby, when they know there might be something terrible happening, because that's what the tv networks pay a lot of money for. Tyler<span id='postcolor'> I agree. My theory is that it was carrying a really heavy load. Combined with heavy gusts of wind, it simply put too much stress on the wings at that low of an attitude.
