SWAT_BigBear 0 Posted February 11, 2012 Takistan is based on Afghanistan,Bamyan province, southwest from Yakawlang. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakawlang_District Check the AIMS map.
OMAC 254 Posted February 11, 2012 (edited) Here is a Google Earth kmz in which Tankbuster's Takistan map (teamspaff.co.uk) is translucently overlain over the Yakawlang district. Just install Google Earth, and then double-click on the kmz file. You can then adjust the map transparency if you wish. With the layer loaded in GE, you can do 3d fly-throughs and other visualizations of Takistan. http://tinyurl.com/76n65uf Edited February 11, 2012 by OMAC
Tankbuster 1746 Posted April 7, 2012 That's really cool! Nice job.
Tonci87 163 Posted April 7, 2012 Wow if we only had this for chernarus too...
OMAC 254 Posted April 7, 2012 Yes, Tonci87! I thought that Chernarus was imaginary, using synthetic terrain. Is that true? If not, where is Chernarus in the real world? I got a 2047x1982 pix map of Chernarus from arma2base.de, but that is not of the quality and resolution of tankbuster's Taki map. Can we get our hands on the official map from http://www.arma2.com/arma-2-chernarus/map-of-chernarus_en.html? That one is flash-embedded.
fraczek 4 Posted April 7, 2012 Wow if we only had this for chernarus too... Here it is for Chernarus! :) KMZ file for Google Earth (it's on hosted on Czech upload site, with multiupload currently down it was the simplest one for me to host it. Just press "Stahnout" button to download it, or switch to English with the little flag in top right corner) It's a quick-n-dirty job I cobbled it up in last 10 minutes, so it's a bit rough round the edges and the registration with map could use some tweaking, but it should be about 95% accurate. You can see BIS altered the terrain features somewhat, mainly the coastline (well, riverbank in RL) and the area around Usti nad Labem and Decin (which are cities right at the edges of map, where it would make no sense ingame to have outskirts of a big city). But even the forests and treelines are true to RL. And it's a nice place for hiking in RL, with other parts of Ceske Stredohori (the western part SW of Usti nad Labem the most beautiful IMHO :))
OMAC 254 Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, fraczek. Cool pic looking west from near Zub castle just south of Vyshnoye: http://v4.cache7.c.bigcache.googleapis.com/static.panoramio.com/photos/original/6186583.jpg?redirect_counter=1 You can even see the radio tower! Makes me want to get on a plane now, permanently move to Czechoslovakia, and apply for terrain developer job at BIS! ;) Edited April 7, 2012 by OMAC

OMAC 254 Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) It looks similar from a distance, though, eh? NeuroFunker 11 Posted April 8, 2012 (edited) nice thread, previously hills picture, brought me up a dejavu lol, only the way pointer is missing, showing u where to move ) Going continue on topic: Samarqand Zargabad city was deffinitly build after this city, also notice the mud-build huts at some pictures, same as we see at Takistan. tpw 2315 Posted April 8, 2012 This post inspired me to revisit Chernarus for a few missions. I'd forgotten how huge, beautiful and detailed that map actually is. And unfortunately how hard the urban regions hit my computer :)
fraczek 4 Posted April 10, 2012 Yeah but that radio tower isn´t the one that can be seen ingame, it doesn´t exist IRL I am not so sure. The tower ingame looks like a shortened version of Cukrak TV tower, which is located just before Mnisek pod Brdy, site of the BIS studio (not neglecting the Brno team of course :) ). The Chernarus tower reminds me of Cukrak (the shape, the small dishes circular terrace) more than Bukova hora TV tower (in that RL photo above, nearer in RL the Chernarus location than Cukrak). BTW, I still hope to see some reality game for Arma 3 like the one with Iranian hackers some time ago - bring them on :)
Tonci87 163 Posted April 10, 2012 I mean it doesn´t exist in that location^^
fraczek 4 Posted April 10, 2012 You are right, of course :) But as it is such an iconic sight for Chernarus, we have to give the devs some creative freedom ;) ---------- Post added at 20:58 ---------- Previous post was at 20:56 ---------- Returning to the subject, though, does anybody know if there is a RL location of Zargabad terrain? I don't mean the city, that could be just created, but the underlying (and overreaching :)) terrain, the river, etc...?
