Nicholas 5 Posted January 21, 2012 I got to thinking today, and I was wondering how well did this game sell? I was personally hoping it would sell well, but it doesn't seem so by the looks of these forums and lack of addons. Discuss.
samb 15 Posted January 21, 2012 Its a shame this game is pretty much dead addon wise. I don't know what's the reason for it.
.kju 3244 Posted January 21, 2012 A few thoughts: a) Sim community is small b) Civilian only even more c) Lack of into to create addons for ToH (choppers/worlds) d) Lack of into to extend the SP mode e) Most arma modders seem not interested in a civilian chopper sim/game f) Outside sim modders are used to make addons for money? Sealife 22 Posted January 21, 2012 (edited) I'm sure othat once the java patch comes these forums Will look different .:) This game doesn't need addons as much as the other series ,because vanilla pretty much has it all , rtt , rope physics , configurable waypoints , hidden selection on choppers for easy mission based retextures(for now at least). OMAC 254 Posted January 22, 2012 The scarcity of addons may not necessarily equate with weak sales. In addition to what PvPscene wrote, there are only a limited number of activities that one can design for a civilian-focused game, and most of these are already included: sling-loading, difficult landings, difficult weather, flying in formation/following, acrobatics, timed (emergency) transport, client camera work, rope work, police support, autorotation, etc. Also included are some limited military activities such as close air support. One could add mountain rescue if there were high mountains in the terrain model. Some addons for logging support have been made. Since BIS did such a good job in designing missions and activities already, it looks like there are only limited additional civilian activities that would inspire modders and mission designers. mattxr 9 Posted January 22, 2012 4-5 Months before a new game is released the community is always quiet. Once BIS release some new news you will see the forums light up.. everyone is just hibernating for the big release :))
metalcraze 290 Posted January 22, 2012 What's said above. Civ sim niche is one of the smallest niches out there and ArmA fans like to blow stuff up, not deliver harmless packages. That includes me. It would be cool if BIS released fully simulated Apache with some missions for it since asian area is like perfect for this stuff. Also civilian oriented game isn't exactly multiplayer-friendly. Not much stuff to do together. But I hope it sold well enough. I assume BIS knew what their sales will be.
