velebrz 1 Posted December 30, 2011 hi guys ! a newbie modder starting out, in need of help I just rigged my combined ops with the full ACE2 suite. Im shocked. Totally awesome stuff !!! I also heard all praise with the JSRS sound mod. Would it be stupid to install it over the ACEX ?? Would there be any conflicts or such...is this even possible ? thank you kind arma community, happy holidaze !! :):):):)
Angus S 10 Posted December 30, 2011 It'll run over ACEX, but don't run it with ACEX_SM, they'll overwrite each other
b00ce 160 Posted December 30, 2011 Which ever sound mod is loaded last (Alphabetically, so JSRS) will be the dominant mod. Any sounds not covered by JSRS, will be ACEX_SM. If that makes any sense.
kremator 1065 Posted December 30, 2011 Ummmm alphabetically? Surely you need to put it into the correct position in the commandline ???
velebrz 1 Posted December 30, 2011 hiu guys, thanks for the swift responses !! what if i check the pbos from the both, and keep the ones i think are better quality, and of course keep the ones that only each of them have ?? Like a best mix of both ?
b00ce 160 Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) Ummmm alphabetically? Surely you need to put it into the correct position in the commandline ??? I thought that too, but I looked into it, dug REALLY deep and found that its loaded alphabetically based on the .pbo files. Basically how it works is: -mod=@CBA;@YUP_Blackhawk;@Nod_Apache;@Desert_tanks "Apache.pbo" is loaded, but requires CBA and the Blackhawk addon for pilot models, so it is skipped. "Blackhawk.pbo", but requires CBA, so it is skipped. "CBA.pbo" "Desert_Tanks.pbo" is loaded ArmA then goes back through the list to pick up any other .pbos that haven't been loaded yet, it could have to do this several times if dependencies are complicated. In this case, it goes through twice. http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Modfolders#Conflicting_addons_.2F_addon_load_order Take this thread for example: http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=13798 I've always been told "Load CBA first or it won't work", loading CBA last works just as well as the two guys loading things randomly. Tl,Dr; Don't worry about it, there's nothing you can do to influence anything and it doesn't matter what your load order is. :) Edit: hiu guys, thanks for the swift responses !!what if i check the pbos from the both, and keep the ones i think are better quality, and of course keep the ones that only each of them have ?? Like a best mix of both ? You could try that, the modular sound mods, like JSRS are built with all those .pbos for that specific reason. Don't delete them, put them in a folder called "disabled" (Or what ever you want, really) in the folder with all the .pbos. kremator 1065 Posted December 30, 2011 Every time this comes up it confuses me! I think Sickboy has said that CBA will always be loaded first as it doesn't matter where it is in the commandline.
Guest Posted December 30, 2011 I think Sickboy has said that CBA will always be loaded first as it doesn't matter where it is in the commandline. That is correct! CBA is configured so it loads always in the right "spot", no matter where in the commandline the addon is activated or wether a launcher is used. When addons do not contain such a "feature" if I am not mistaken the last in the line overwrites all previous, but only where they modify the same parts of the game of course, like the same weapon sounds for example! When I am wrong please correct me :)
PuFu 4600 Posted December 30, 2011 the last one in a mod line will overwrite everything before that. That's the reason why certain things needs to be loaded in a specific way. Especially when one inherits from another. booce, you are wrong in your assumption of alphabetical order i am affraid. @foxhound: either way this is not the place for this thread
b00ce 160 Posted December 30, 2011 booce, you are wrong in your assumption of alphabetical order i am affraid. Unfortunately, the page 404ed that the Biki entry I posted links to. :( It went in detail on how it worked, and made sense from an engine standpoint. At least that's what I read. LordJarhead 1723 Posted December 31, 2011 In theory you can combine such soundmods. JSRS is built on a much different way than ACE, so this could cause some trouble. JSRS has all single weapons in sinle pbo, but I'm not sure for the ACEX_SM. I guess there are weapons types (Rifle, MG, Pistol) collected in pbo's. At least, since ACE SM and JSRS mostly changing everything, only one SM will work full. And since there are not much sounds which may stay untouched, you wont notice any different. So just run one of them. But if you want to merge them, you have to figure out which weapons are combined in the ACESM pbo's and then delete these weapons one by one out of JSRS. I'm not sure about that at least. JSRS was designed to fit to RWS or even HiFi mod. I would say, you shoud use a Arma Launcher. There are also the "most important addons" mode, so you can always say, which mod would be the most important one for you and get loaded at last. And I give you an advise: Since JSRS is using a new script ACE SM dont, you will get some trouble and strange sound overlappings. All ACESM Weapon sounds are fading out after a certain distance, lets say 1200 meters (I dont know for sure). JSRS weapons fading out after 400 - 500 meters and fading into the distance sounds to 2000 meters and more (regarding on weapon type). So these SM's are not the best friends. So since you'r cool with ACE, I guess you should stay with them! Hope that was a bit helpfull. Jarhead
