This might sound like an provocative question, but we all know that even BIS has limited ressources in one area or another.

Is the community able to help?

E.g. Smaller teams, like the ones from Ground Branch, or the developers of the Project Reality retail game are sometimes holding contests which lets the

community actively bring the creation of the game further.

Contests are held like "Make a 3d model of a Lada vehicle and we'll include

the best of it in the game" or "Can you help us research the late 80' equipment of

the russian speznas?".

The community as helping hand instead of only a feature requester.

Do you think that is feasible?

IMO no. BIS should develop entirely in-house, to produce as solid a base as possible for addons :)

Nope . I don't want BIS to get all complacent and start developing puzzle platformers :p

I think there might even be some other issues hidden on the legal page but i am not familiar with this.

Even though i would like to see the community doing things the Team simply wasnt able to do in terms of time, i dont really support the overall idea also for the reasons above

No. For the most part at least. It would be legally dangerous for them to do it. If I make some kind of model or sound mod, what guarantees do they have that I haven't ripped anything from other games?

Changes to configs and errors found in scripts after release can be suggested on the CIT.

i voted yes.

:rolleyes: BIS as an entity existing under the name Bohemia Interactive has offices on three continents, two in Europe.

Also they already contract out to community members in a lot of cases, look at the credits in some of the BIS modules. They are not BIS employees, they are community members. They don't hold contests because people establish their talent by contributing in the first place, not as a prize.

I'm sure community have the knowladge, time and skills to be able to help, if they want to however thats different page.

I can't speak on behalf of any modders or any addon makers but i fail to see why they wouldn't be included in the pay roll than.

Reality mod is free and thus different situation and you can help by making a donation to evaluate their free time.

end of story

All of those are great points and I fully agree.

Some of the things I can think of why this isn't as great as it would initially seem:

-Legal complications (items would be of limited use if BIS doesn't buy the Intellectual Property rights, and if anything is stolen from another source, BIS becomes legally liable);

-Quality control issues (lack of standards, mistakes, bugs etc);

-Unemployment, BIS has more than enough people working for them already (the team that worked on ArmA2 had what, 55-65 people at one point? And BIS has 4 teams in Europe alone if I counted correctly (BIS, Altar Games, Black Element Software and Centauri Productions). Aside from that, BIS has more offices around the world for it's simulation division, and in addition to that employs freelancers for work on modules for it's various products, and sometimes acquires work from community modders by selecting off-the-shelf content that they think is good enough.);
