List of all configs in ArmA II

Recommended Posts

Good luck finding those configs there, kju.

To be frank, the config browser itself is also pretty hard to figure, as the useful views are under a rock and it shows the ACE version by default. I have deemed it best to use the url below and replace the cfg name in it when I need to see CfgVehicles, magazines, ammo or patches.

It just is. Try to look at it from the point of view of someone who isn't a DH admin.

Did you check the link for real?

If you didn't, it leads you to a wiki page with various links.

At the end there is a section called "What is in the code repository of the CMB".

In there is a link called "Latest release version of configs for OFP, A1 and A2, along with allInOne config and version diffs most notably".

How does reading have anything to do with being used to redmine?

Well, that's just the thing and I'm surprised that you don't see it yourself. Nothing is clear by just looking at any given page on DH. You need to put real effort to find things that should be shoved into your face on a user-friendly website, and I'm still not certain which links you have to click in order to get to the config browser and then get to the url I linked before.

You're not supposed to end up on the Config Browser, as kju linked to the AllInOne configs that are available for download from the CMB repository.

Ref arguments about userfriendly sites etc - the work generally is done by a very small group of people,

I don't think it's bad to expect some skill/effort involved, and if other people believe differently, perhaps they should step in and improve / provide their view on simplicity.

Well I stand by my point;

It's always easy to say something is a pain, or whatever, but what would be really useful is constructive feedback, or even better; join and assist (Open source / wiki style).

Just stating "it" is a pain is of little use.

That goes for about anything - you know very well the time, efforts and tears required to make things. Nothing comes for free and by itself :)

Documentation, something imo the config browser falls under too, and perhaps to some extent dev-heaven.net too, is rather something we can all benefit from, and should be our shared responsibility to improve.

And if we join hands we can achieve even more than we can seperately.

What is the point of your discussion of redmine here?

If you want to get it improved, provide them suggestions here: http://www.redmine.org

This topic was about a guy requesting a list of configs and it has been provided to him.

As everyone can see it requires just little effort and basic reading skills to get there from the link provided.

Sheeh!

Its seems unfortunately related to fundamental core code for the web page design/layout ..... so no number of suggestions is going to correct it this decade I suspect.

..... Its ok, not the end of the world, its still "a pain" but we/I persist.

It is after all a HUGE resource.

I would still be interested to hear what it is that you feel is a pain exactly..

Still no clue if you're speaking about dev-heaven, a page on it, the config browser, a page on it, everything etc.

Interestingly im offering a solution, you keep saying it's a pain, and now we're stuck, noone the wiser.

A few notes:

- You're searching inside all projects

- You're searching Issues (tickets), News, Documents, Changesets, Wiki Pages and Messages (forum)

DH is a project hosting site which includes a number of projects and involves different types of data (As a whole it's not a Wiki nor a Forum, yet it does provide such modules (and others) to the Projects hosted), so searches need to be limited to what information type you are after, and preferably which project.

e.g: Searching just Wiki pages:

But even on a forum like the BIS forums, searching for a single term without limiting to a specific forum (say project in dev-heaven), will also give you a great many hits of which many will not be useful to you.

Once you limit to a forum, or provide other keywords (title-only, author, etc), you more easily get to the information you seek.

Limiting the default search to e.g wiki pages could be an idea, if the majority of the people would be after information on the wiki's of projects,

while I believe it is rather the Issue Tracker module with Tickets that is the main feature, and people visit projects, not the site as if it were a forum or wiki :)

Long story short, just make the excellent (!!!) allinone configs easily accessible, w/o users having to run the gauntlet of dh´s (at times) user unfriendliest navigation.

Yesterday i posted the latest 1.59 CO allinone as attachment on our forums, dl should work for non registered users aswell: http://hx3.de/379911-beitrag4.html

(allinone config is not my work, it´s black magic done by kju and others, so all props to them)
