BLSmith2112 0 Posted July 11, 2011 Yesterday I came back after a 6 month Hiatus from this game and I must be out of the loop on something because I simply could not shoot down a single aircraft in a Warfare match last night. I had 7 AI in AA pods, all of which were told to hold fire. An AH-64 was flying overhead and it was beginning to fly away. I tell all the AI to engage the target, all 7 fire, the guy pops a few flares and he gets away scot free (after a total of 14 AA missiles fire). I tried this again with an F35 that came by on numerous occasions, and finally on a C130. Nothing. Seven AA pods, always missing. Please tell me that I'm missing something... other than the planes heh!
slatts 1978 Posted July 11, 2011 dont use AA missiles use a shilka or tunguska ;)
RSF TheCapulet 59 Posted July 13, 2011 Stingers and the Russian eq are damn near useless in warfare, unless used against incredibly novice pilots. If you're playing BE, the Russians have the Tunguska obviously, while the linebacker APC has the same missiles on the US side. And if the Unit Balancing param is on, the USMC version of the Avenger has AIM-9 Sidewinders. The only time stingers are advisable is if you have a pilot flying directly over head at very low altitudes. Before or after they pass you, they have too much time to see the radar warning and toss out a few dozen flares before the incredibly slow missile reaches them. A2/OA really needed a proper SAM model in the base game.
daikan 1 Posted July 13, 2011 I think activating Mando Missiles param could help improve the situation in many cases. Not only is it more realistic in terms of handling of related fire control systems but also helps balancing ground vs air more (IMHO). I agree that hitting air targets in Warfare BE is often way too hard, resulting in the annoying air quake during the final stages... But then again, I've never seen a public server running Warfare BE with Mando Missiles enabled these days... I know that in Gossamer's Warfare (which has Mando active by default) anti-air defense works much more reliably and (I think) realistically, thus creating a better balance. icebreakr 3157 Posted July 13, 2011 You're mentioning slow missile? Did BIS change anything? Since I've checked last time, the missiles (at least AA Aim9 or Russian counterpart) were configured badly, reaching up to unrealistic 3+ mach speeds?

I'm talking more about stingers and their russian counterpart than the AIM-9s. AIM9s hit like an insane Mach 5 and kill almost anything every time.
kremator 1065 Posted July 15, 2011 Using Mando Missiles will sort that out. Of course MM need to be put on server side (either in addon or better in script form inside the mission). Doing that will level the playing field, trust me :)
gossamersolid 155 Posted July 15, 2011 Yeah Mando is the only fix for this kind of stuff right now. I hope BIS learns from Mando and incorporates how MMA works into ArmA 3... that'd be godly.

gossamersolid 155 Posted July 19, 2011 Hope... I sure hope BIS realizes the vanilla system sucks and that they implement something better. Especially with RTT coming in, we should be able to use the TV Views right from our cockpits.
