CarlGustaffa 4 Posted July 12, 2011 I don't play with ACE, but for the following reasons: * Tired of helping computer illiterates setting it up (all the time). * My H/W being too old and slow, can barely cope with vanilla. * Hard to "keep up" with the development, mission using it getting outdated. All-in-one or none-at-all is how I would have made it myself, as it ensures you know what you're getting when you join a server running it. Otherwise I fear most servers would be running only the good stuff (oooh, nice shiny weapons), and disabling the bad stuff (typically stamina) - how is that good for a realism oriented conversion mod? metalcraze 290 Posted July 12, 2011 (edited) ACE is being set up with a single mouse click in SU - how hard can it be? Not really true, you need to raise the sensitivity. Even with the sensitivity raised to the max during pitch black nights everything still looks quite dark. Which is realistic I guess. Everyone who doesn't want it to break mission balance or doesn't like the all-in-one or none-at-all annoyance galore when it comes to its many, many features. There are a lot of missions made and being made for ACE. They just aren't published at Armaholic (unfortunately). As for all-in-one or none-at-all - it's the way it should be. All the terrible mess with some people having one addon and some people not having that addon is avoided. Anyone can find 2 GBs of space on the HDD. One of the reasons I have ACE installed is because I know I won't need anything else and if I don't like some feature of it - it provides the module to disable it. maturin 12 Posted July 12, 2011 People, night in Arma 2 is only pitch black for like 2 hours. What time this is depends on location (island) and date. Five minutes of experimentation should reveal the system to you.

galzohar 31 Posted July 13, 2011 NVGs work with starlight as well, not just moonlight. Not nearly as well, but they sure do work to a quite useful degree. Anyway, even if pitch-black can exist IRL, it is probably way too common in Arma. Even more so if you consider the fact most places in Arma have more light pollution than where I was doing my moonless night navigation in the army (and I could in fact see my hand in front of me and what my feet are stepping on, though not a whole lot more than that). wolfbite 8 Posted July 13, 2011 I dont live too far from London and I have to say even out here in Essex.... When its overcast... It gets real bloody dark.. not total blackness... but it becomes very difficult to figure oit where you're walking....
Guest Posted July 13, 2011 It is always darkest before dawn... (That is true in Arma 2 as well) When I lived in the country side in England, I remember completely pitch black nights walking down country roads, you could not see your hand in front of your face at all. It is a very weird feeling not being able to see! The funniest thing about such darkness, is that something as tiny as an LED light on a keyring, or the light from a mobile phone screen, seems to illuminate the whole world. (Well, only a few feet, but a few feet seems like the whole world when you can't see anything) In Arma 2, if I am making a Guerilla mission with no NVG's, I always make the nights full moon so you can still see. However, I get very annoyed with this, because enemies with no NVG don't seem to react to the full moon, and you can walk right up to them and they won't shoot you. (Haven't tested this with ace)
maturin 12 Posted July 13, 2011 It is always darkest before dawn...(That is true in Arma 2 as well) On some usermade maps, the darkest hour is well before midnight. I guess this depends on the coordinates they used in the config.
galzohar 31 Posted July 13, 2011 Enemies seem to actually react to full moon (at least with ACE), just not to the extent you would expect. In full moon you can see them almost as good as day, but they will only see you ~50m away or so (more or less depending on how much moon there is). Pitch black nights and they are pretty much blind - You can go punch them in the face and then maybe they'll detect you... Of course once you fire a single shot the rules change completely and they will continue to see you even if you completely change your position after firing (even though it's pitch black and there is no way they should be able to see that you have moved). Yeah. I believe that one they're alert, their hearing is as accurate as echolocation.
