Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion

They write that in the final game there will be 5 factions, do we know which ones other than Iran, NATO, Greek rebels... Have we any info about what the Independent faction will be...???

Wait, what? BLUFOR has the TAR-21. Katiba is definitely the Khaybar KH-2002 but modified. Notice how all the Israeli equipment has been removed from the Iranian faction? No TAR-21, no Merkava, probably no Namer either. The TAR-21 is now blufor's TRG, although I would have preferred the MK20/FN F2000.

You might say that there have been... certain splendidâ„¢ adjustments made :)

The Alpha is just the starting line. There are plenty more interesting developments yet to be revealed this year!

Note that Royalty said that we might not be fighting on a Greek island now ... I guess due to obvious reasons.

As for the factions. No.

My assumption based on the class names:

BLUFOR: US and UK

OPFOR: Iran

Indi: Guerilas

Civilians

Okay, thanks... I will dont be able to buy the supporter edition before my tax return at the end of the month, so dont have the option of checking much out myself... Which classnames indicates the UK, the first i have hear that there will be UK troops, but a very pleasent news...!

Well there is a class name for as UK Sf cap ( note that being in Alpha and inherently WIP) this may change

So do I understand this right that the Blufor and Opfor main weapons have caseless ammo? This is not a bug?

That's in the names anyway, but yes, the Katiba uses 6.5mm caseless, apparently the same ammo as the MX rifles and the Mk 200. Previously the SDAR seemed to use 6.5mm UW (supercavitating ammo?) but in the alpha it's using 5.56 x 45 mm, in both thirty-round "STANAG" (ball?) magazines and twenty-round "Dual Purpose" (supercavitating?) magazines.

I have a GTX 285 Video card 1 gig card, and having problems starting ArmA 3 Alpha.

I am at work right now, so I dont have all my computer specs, but I am using Vista SP2 64bit, Ram 6gigs.

I am having an error popup when loading, related to Direct X . Sorry cannot rememder exact error message, But I have loaded the current Direct X.

I cannot even start the game, I never leave the steam console. I have verified the cache with steam. Any help would be helpful. Thanks

I think the caseless 6.5mm also weighs less - I could cram 11x for Katiba, as opposed to around 6-7 for the MX. ;)

Was just checking over my ArmA3.RPT and came across this error:

Bad simulation thingX, type Land_Cargo20_china_color_V1_F (class=house), a3\structures_f\ind\cargo\cargo20_china_color_v1_f.p3d

I recall China being mentioned in the very first ARG before ArmA 3 was announced, so with this error does it mean we will have an extra opfor faction in the final build?

Well I wouldn't say a full faction, maybe 1 or 2 "Advisor" units. Plus doesn't that error refer simply to a container?

Personally I would keep China as a larger DLC or for an expansion.

What? So if BI sent you an email saying "Hello maionaize would you like us to put this whole fleshed out China faction into the arma 3 release for no extra charge?" you would be like: "No, no I think you should release it as DLC later!"

Maybe China will be DLC or maybe it will come with the game but I'd sure as hell prefer the latter.

Have you guys thought about having "cloud" editing? For instance, if I'm making a mission and I want my friends to help they could be invited to make the mission with me at the same time within the editor. So we could combine ideas and speed up the process plus it would make the editing process so much easier...

Yes, but the fact the name China is in an error, brings up speculation whether China will be featured in the game, no? :)

I believe they won't be releasing too many new items until beta, since this is an alpha which focuses on gameplay mechanics, performance and stability. For example now when they are working out the kinks with the weapons we do have, they can implement that experience into all the other weapons for the beta/full game. Same with vehicles, animations, etc.

Maybe it was "res" and not "rus". Or maybe it's that fancy SURPAT camo pattern.

I'd like to suggest adding functionality to slave the chaingun on helicopters to TrackIR head tracking gear to allow target acquisition and engagement much like the real attack helicopters currently in service by todays military.

Not that im claiming its 100% russian faction

It look like a ghillie suited sniper, remember the pic/video clip from dsyxlecxi where there was a sniper in ghillie looked a little like this just the camo was different...! So maybe a russian sniper... ;-)
