ArmA 2 island compatibility?

Recommended Posts

Hi BIS,

I'd just like to ask a quick question.

Will ArmA 3 still use the .wrp format for islands so that island from previous games such as ArmA 2 could still be imported?

By the look of the new screenshots it seems to me that ArmA 3 is still using the .wrp format so I'm not too worried.

Anyway, thanks for the new game, I'm looking forward to it :yay:

I want to know this too.

Chernarus and Takistan are very good and I love them - I really want to see them in AA3.

The ArmA-Community has good "Modders". I think this will be feasible.

By the Way: Sharani, Poto and Rhamadi I would also like to see in ArmA 3 too.:D:D:D

Actually my dream would be seeing all previous content on Arma 3. Every campaign, Island, missions, from previous installments is a wet dream. I would love to see BIS do this, and do it as a Retro-DLC kind of thing. Hell i'll pay for it.

I'm certainly going to import my Taviana island and rest of my addons in to ArmA 3.

Addons are easy to import, islands are also not that hard to import, if ArmA 3 still uses .wrp and Visitor .pew files then it’s a piece of cake.

I think that it will still use these file formats because there is no real point in changing them for BIS, but I'd just like a developer to confirm it so we can be sure.

If the engine of ArmA lll will allow to - that would be awsome to see all old stuff from A2 in A3.

I definitely won't consider Arma3 unless my fav user maps and missions can easily be ported over (I assume there will be some penalty, like legacy textures at lower resolution etc) or until there is a critical mass of user-made Arma3 content. Of course I would need a major upgrade to my system too, but that is another issue altogether.

If the engine of ArmA lll will allow to - that would be awsome to see all old stuff from A2 in A3.

Often quick n' dirty backwards compatibility comes with a performance penalty or glitches (unoptimized old code/apps may break), so a clean break with the past may be in order if Arma III is to be Arma II reborn. If the underlying engine is completely new, the issues may be magnified further.

Just asking, how you identify a rendering file format looking at a screenshot?

But seriously, it's unlikely that the RV engine will be totally revamped and altered, it will keep key parts totally or partially unaltered.
