BronzeEagle 2 Posted December 28, 2010 ill start, i learned that when in the wide open with a full squad and getting caught in fire with no cover, you should send as much ammo downrange as possible, single fire or burst, whichever is more accurate or you think you can pull off. when playing my campaign for codeblue the one mission collateral, you get caught in the open when some trucks pull up full of men on patrol. the more fire you send downrange especially in the part where they're hopping out and you have the advantage, send as much fire downrange at them as possible and moving from target to target whichever enemy has the most advantage, hit him first. thats what i learned. NacroxNicke 11 Posted December 28, 2010 Not much really, but this is one of the tactics that i use a lot on my coop sessions. We play the WW2MP mod, so the MG is a principal gun on the squad, we put it in the best position along with the ammo bearer, and send the SMG's to a close combat action. When the enemy squad is exposed and there isn't too much cover for them, the MG start the show, firing all the magazine over the squad, killing the most dangerous soldiers, like the squad leader, the grenadiers, machinegunners, etc. Afterwards, the SMG provide some fireline at 150 meters or less, with grenades and stuff. If some soldier escapes on the firefight, we don't follow him, because it's most probably a ambush will came from it. It's really useful, as long the enemy doesn't return fire, because if it does, you will need some extra time to kill those soldiers, and the backup can arrive in that time. celery 8 Posted December 28, 2010 After playing OFP I started to own at every other fps game. The tactical edges that show themselves as minimal nuances in normal fps games are very pronounced in OFP, and ultimately learning them gives you an edge in mainstream fps games against players who don't necessarily take such things into account. Such edges can be creative use of cover, elusive movement, feints and prediction of enemy behavior.
zulu1 145 Posted December 28, 2010 After years of MP play there are a few fundamentals. 1. Avoid the direct approach. Try to circle around enemy locations and seekout high ground. 2. When enemy is near keep low and move staying in cover. 3. Fire from cover, keep changing positions and fallback into cover to reload. 4. If leading AI squad make good use of commands like hold fire, keep low, go prone, danger and different formations to fit situtation. (#3 is a must to confuse "mostknown enemy" feature of OFP.) JdB 151 Posted December 28, 2010 By far not all, but some that I could immediately think of: 1) The primary weapon of a team leader is not his assault rifle, but the soldiers under his command. Even though the Ai can be a bit dodgy at times, it's still easier to fight the enemy with 4, 6, 8 or 12 than it is to go Rambo. 2) Always taking cover, even in games that do not really require it. 3) Thinking about how to move from place to place before starting the move. Move from cover to cover. 4) Never thinking just one step ahead, always thinking what I/we can do next, what the enemy might do in response, and what we can do to prevent this, or at the very least counter. 5) Never fire from a standing position unless there is hard cover, never continue to fire from the same position for more than a minute. 6) Hit the enemy while he's disembarking (sadly a lot of games seem to place soldiers in godmode while disembarking). 7) Never letting the Ai run off on it's own, since that's a sure-fire way of losing people, and more importantly putting the specialist items like AT weapons in view of the enemy, from which they will have to be retrieved somehow (always set to Engage rather than Engage at will). 8) Elevated positions work wonders against armor, especially when you lack support infantry (most vehicles can't engage you unless they move away some distance). 9) Observing the enemy before opening fire. Vultar 0 Posted December 28, 2010 I was 10 when first time put my hands on Ofp. Since then I've been interested in military, reading and learning year by year. Learning from my own Ofp experience, reading some Field Manuals... It's pretty hard to die in Ofp, nowadays. :) Three Rules I can think of: Be Accurate. Always take cover. Think. Beagle 684 Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) Do not sprint.I only learned three things...be patient, let the other guy run around looking for you, not the other way around.Be patient, walk, dont run around...after running you wont hit the guy in front of you and returning fire from running take that 2 seconds too long and fast moving spoil all your concealment and makes noise. Be patient, dont walk over this open field or drive directly with full throttle to this camp. Choose concealment over Speed and keep in mind...Full throttle driving is loud. Be patien, don't rush, don't run, learn from the turtle and the chamelion, keep silence. My new "sport" in public warfare missons is to respawn less then 5 times in a 4 hour game...the above measure do help a lot to accomplish this goal. In fact you can accomplish a lot of tasks by just waiting till the "rushers" leave the area... that's mostly 25seconds after capture. After capture I usualy stay there for 15 minutes..the enemy player will come to me...why should I run at him? Edited December 28, 2010 by Beagle
