Challenger3 0 Posted May 9, 2002 Satchels got a brilliant idea check out this sitehttp://www.facets3dmodels.com/, there is an almost unlimited number of medels to check out and maybe could be ported to OFP through O2
Scorpio 0 Posted May 9, 2002 I don't think you can actually download them, but thanks anyway Challenger.
Scorpio 0 Posted May 9, 2002 Sorry, i just found out that you can have the models emailed to you. But the only descent one is the SU-37. BTW, does anybody know if Models in 3DS Max format can be imported to O2?
KTottE 0 Posted May 9, 2002 That's cheating =) Actually, that's quite unfair. Think of it this way: Kegetys spends several hours at his machine, piecing together a beautiful Merkava tank. Time and effort is put into making it a great model. [RandomName] spends 2 minutes e-mailing this site, getting a Merkava in his mailbox. Then he puts it trough O2 in 10 minutes, and voilá, he's got a Merkava ready to go. He will get an equal amount of respect from the OFP community, with not nearly the same amount of time and effort that Kegetys put's into his model... Satchel 0 Posted May 9, 2002 The models i´ve listed are the only ones that come for free on this site, everything else is commercially available. A while ago i requested the price for an Leopard2A5, it would come something like 1200 US $- for a single model that is.

Major Fubar 0 Posted May 9, 2002 These have some awesome models, a real variety...if they charge for model usage, maybe we should do a whip-around the OFP community to get these into the game!!! Er reading above for $1200 us per model...maybe not!
walker 0 Posted May 9, 2002 Here is a list of free model sites. If any one uses them fine but we will know they did not make the model and we can contact the originator of the model, if they claim it as theirs. They could be good sources of models for OFP but their creators should be credited. http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/meshes.asp http://shape.cs.princeton.edu/search.html http://www.3dlinks.com/objects....l sites The last one links to many others. But on the other hand i´m not installing addons out of sympathy for their Authors, actually i would leave "homemade" work aside, if an already existing model that has been "recycled" looks and plays better, although as you said, "it´s not fair", but thats how natural selection goes. People just received oxygen, and i´m pretty sure the majority of people that got it have little or just plain basics in modelling experience. As you said it will take time and effort to complete a model if you do it all by yourself from ground up, according slow the mod releases will be.  I see no problems as long as sources and credits are included when using premade 3D objects for a new OFP addon, of course permission of the original model author is required. BigQEd 0 Posted May 9, 2002 Not fair? Come on... you think Keg did EVERYTHING from scratch without even a picture? You think he visited a local AirShow and made the Hawk from visual recall? Get real... use what is available to you. If you don't then I would say you are a few short of a full load.
Red Star 0 Posted May 10, 2002 *hgmpff Yes,the moells are nice...but...does anyone see something animated parts? Wheels, hatches,...? I think not! The wheeled APC looks great, too, even the lines are simply painted. Höm, maybe something that will run on my machine... Cool!
expendable 0 Posted May 10, 2002 They seem quite flat, though... Could be because of the too colourfull textures.
KTottE 0 Posted May 11, 2002 I don't think he made that Hawk from visual recall. I am a 3D modeller as well, and I just used Kegetys as an example, since he has made the first real O2 model. Anyway, I didn't say that everything should be done with no help at all. I was just saying that now a plain ol' anybody can download/buy a model from this site, and put it into the game. When Kegetys (or me) spends alot of time doing that same model ourselves. I think it's unfair that someone can get the same amount of credit with not nearly the same amount of work. And, please, do not make any further comments about my mental capacity BigQEd. I find it offensive, especially since I did not make any un-called for statements. My point of view is completely understandable, and as such should not be mocked by the likes of you. (Quite frankly, if we were to compare brain capacity I think we would find that yours is the one "a few short of a full load")
trec1080 0 Posted May 11, 2002 is kegetys merkava downloadable? I love the merkava:)
KTottE 0 Posted May 11, 2002 Kegetys hasn't made a Merkava. I just took that as an example, since the tank shown in the picture was a Merkava. I'm sorry if I mislead any of you to think that Kegetys actually made a Merkava.
Konyak-2 0 Posted May 11, 2002 I absolutely have to back up KtottE´s point here. I started a thread about this same thing before Oxygen came out, warning against this practise. (I managed to inadvertently stomp hard on a few toes, but that is another story). To take someones elses work and receive credit for it without letting the truth be known, is slimy and an insult to those who put in the real work. However, and this is something I have seen in just recent weeks, having a model in some format other than OFP format, is hardly going to help anyone who can't do 3d. Someone said earlier in this post that most of the community who received Oxygen are not very good at 3d and are learning basic 3d. Shame on you. I have seen many very nice models from most of the Breathers, and the only reason we don't see new models every day, is because to make any model work in Oxygen is very very complicated, and there are things to do that most of us that have 3d experience have never had to do in a 3d program before. So even if you rip off a model, or pay for it, you have so much work to do to get it into OFP, that I doubt any slime will have the patience or the ability to do it. Taking that notion a little further, if someone actually does manage it, he has done so much work, that he almost deserves some credit for it Personally, I'd like it if everyone made the mesh from scratch, its only more fun for the person doing the work anyway.
