Buying the full party pack

Recommended Posts

I'm looking into buying ArmA2 and I'm wondering if there has been some release that combines a few addons and the game itself into a package? Also, I'm planning to play online, which addons are normally used online (what is required). I mean, which official addons, not user made mods or whatever

1. Order Arma 2 CO from Sprocket

2. Order BAF from Sprocket

3. Order PMC from Sprocket

4. Download 1.56 patch

5. Install Arma 2

6. Install Operation Arrowhead (Arma 2 is updated)

7. Install BAF

8. Install 1.56 (Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead both updated)

9. Install PMC

10. Backup all your DLC to disk or hard drive

If you have a Steam account they're doing a bundle there which includes all you need ( Arma 2 + Arrowhead ). It's called Combined Operations and includes the 2 items for 29.99. The other DLC is optional but looks fun.

now i wouldn't go THAT far.

To each their own, do you really need to bash PMC every time you post? I enjoy it a lot, more so than BAF... but I didn't/don't whine about BAF every chance I get. :j:

Dont use steam, it is very .... twitchy. and you always get updates later than everyone else.

Many i know have had various issues with steam.

I recomend sprocket as i have bought all my arma 2 stuff from them, never had any problems, you basically download a DVD with game on, wich you can either store on a HD for the future or burn to a disc.

Now this is my personal opinion.

What to buy, i recomend buying Arma2 CO (Combined Operations)

wich is Arma2 and Operation Arrowhead for 2/3 of the price both cost seperate.

I deffinetly recomend bying BAF dlc as you get a lot of goodies, merlin, warrior, jackals, all the brits.

I dont recomend bying PMC to any new players since it give very little in terms of new things.

When patching to latest 1.56 you get BAF lite, and PMC lite, so you will never find a MP server you cannot enter because you havent payed for full BAF or PMC.

dlc lite, means low textures and no missions, campaign.

I personally have bought A2 CO, BAF, and PMC to support BIS, i will continue to buy dlc, but if the next dlc is same poor quality IMHO i will not buy it.

BIS made a mistake in releasing PMC as payed dlc.

I tolerate mistakes as we all are not perfect, but if it happens several times.....

Also there are ALOT of fantastic user made addons and missions and stuff FREE on sites like

http://www.armaholic.com/

My sugestion if you are new to Arma2: buy CO and explore the free addons, then play some MP and if you miss BAF full or PMC full when playing online, buy them.

here we go again steam is what it is, convenient, I happen to love it. Has never given me any problems that I could not handle. Is it perfect no but nothing is. The great thing about steam is that with other company's if you buy a game or DLC in your computer brakes down, in you don't have a back up or it's corrupted, You loses your games. I just had to buy a new PC in it took about a mouth. But when It got here I was able to re download all my game on steam. But Sprocket, steam whatever you choses arma2,CO is the way to go.

It has never given YOU any problem YOU cant handle.

Sprocket also have redownload at any time using your account with them so no problem there either with loss of data.

Anyway i wasnt out to bash steam, but its startup params and installs and updates can be very confusing to the average gamer with less skills than esco7800 and others not having issues with steam. Also steam content have had its issues with ingame security etc, true there are fixes but why buy something you need to fix, why not buy something thats working.

Regardless, i started out with sprocket and stayed with them since it works like you have the game DVD, and if you scratch your DVD, you can always download another using account info and burn a new fresh copy for backup, or just screw the burn and download when needed depending on internet connection.

I might have started with steam, and could have been either one of them that i know that complains about issues wich is steam related or i would be like esco7800 and saying it has never caused ME any trouble i cant handle.

The Steam version is a pain in the backside if you want to use community content. You also have to wait longer for the patches than everyone else.

That is not true, it works the same way, make a folder just like with DVD, add something in the target line just like DVD. Its true that the patch takes longer, but its not that much longer wait and I think you only notice it if you play 24/7 or hang here all day long.

clever.

Id rather have my car with only left turnlights than have it with 24 hour delay on AAA and instruction manual on russian.

Edit: I was referring to that issue with battle eye or whatever its called kicking steam users.

Steam is more user friendly, at first...

ArmA is a relatively complex game, and depending how deep into the game you get, Steam only takes you so far before it becomes more confusing and inconvenient then retail/Sprocket version.

If you want to run specific beta's (perhaps so you are compatible with the ACRE mod a server is running) or want to use 3rd party ArmA Server Browsers and Mod Launchers, then stay away from Steam.

Majority of tutorials and instructions are written for retail/sprocket customers, and not Steam users. Do yourself a favour, look at ArmA as a long-term purchase (which it should be as most people stick with this game for years) and don't buy via Steam.

Steam is great, for most games, in my opinion. I use it for Civ 5, MoW series, CoH series, and many more. I would recommend it to anyone, new gamer or not, for the ease of having all your games in one spot, and the ease of updating.

That being said, I would NOT use it for Arma or Arma 2. The amount of flexibility this game has and the developers steady updates, whether it be betas or full patches, just don't mix well with Steam. You WILL wait a little longer for patches (for this game). I see a lot of frustration caused by Steam and Arma.

If you are comfortable enough with Steam, by all means go ahead, but if you're still trying to decide which way to go... BIS (the developers) get more money from Sprocket sales. Now why wouldn't you want that?

If you have capped data allowance each month, I wouldn't recommend Steam: for a number of games it will randomly decide to download the data for the entire game again when a patch is released.

If it would annoy you to wait a day or more longer than everyone else to get patches, then I wouldn't recommend Steam.

If neither of these issues bother you, then Steam may be the more convenient option.

What Richey79 said, although I would have worded it as "If it would annoy you to go a day or more without being able to connect to your favorite server because it's updated already, and you're still waiting on Steam to catch up, then I wouldn't recommend Steam"

:-P

I have a query... I have one copy of all the ArmA2 products thus far, and now two PC's. I am going to by second copy of A2CO for the second machine from Sprocket. However, I don't want to download the 14GB of space when I have all that info sitting already on a DVD.

Now can I in-fact install from the DVD copy I already have, and then activate it with my new sprocket keys or is it an absolute that I download the whole lot! :(

Cheers in advance.

If your original ArmA products were from Sprocket, then yes your new Sprocket key will work with the installation media you already downloaded.

When you download from Sprocket, the files are not specific to you or your product key in any way.

If you're original ArmA2 products are via Steam, not sure. I doubt you can install a Steam game using a Sprocket CD key.

I use my DVDs to install with Sprocket keys... no problems.
