xxbbcc 6 Posted December 5, 2010 Hey everyone, I eventually plan on getting PMC but from what I gathered about the latest patches and PMC itself, it seems to me that the game at the moment is pretty badly broken, waiting for at least one major patch to correct issues. (I'm using beta 73968, since this seemed to be the last stable patch.) From what I read in the forums, the game is widely considered highly unstable, LOD issues are all over the place and the AI is broken. Since my perception may be incorrect, can you guys give me a clear, no-shit assessment about the 1.56 patch for OA, the 1.01 patch for BAF and the state of PMC? Is it worth getting these updates right now or would you recommend waiting for another patch before I update things. (I have A2:CO and BAF and I'd rather avoid reinstalling the game if I didn't like the patches.)
Ulanthorn 10 Posted December 5, 2010 1.56 is definately better then 1.55 but to make one thing clear....every patch brokes one aspect of the game while fixing another. Thats no wonder with such huge content, such huge changes in functionality and such a huge new feature list with every Patch. The game will never be perfect and some quirks are with us since OPF or Armed Assault, but none does brake the game as a whole...its just that you get it all new after every update. I dont see any good reason for not using the latest patches. The whole game is advancing and evolving all the time.
ArmAriffic 10 Posted December 5, 2010 yeah 1.56 fixes some of 1.55's problems so just get the patch anyway, can't play online without it really ether
KeyCat 131 Posted December 5, 2010 (edited) ...the game is widely considered highly unstable, LOD issues are all over the place and the AI is broken. My comments FWIW: Stabilty 1.56 has been rock solid on my system! I have had a few of CTD's since the release of A2 version 1.00 (usually when I backed out and exited A2 fast after playing MP) but far from calling it unstable. Actually one of the most stable game/sim I experienced in long (4+ hours) MP sessions! Again this is on my meager system running Windows XP Pro 32-bit. LOD's Since 1.56 the LOD issue (introduced in 1.55) is gone here. AI Still have it's issues but I hope BIS will revisit and continue to improve and evolve the AI. /KC Edited December 5, 2010 by KeyCat
W0lle 1052 Posted December 5, 2010 I don't know from where you get the impression that the game is "pretty badly broken". 1.56 runs pretty stable here too. If it crashes then because I caused it.
Binkowski 26 Posted December 5, 2010 From what I read in the forums, the game is widely considered highly unstable, LOD issues are all over the place i used to have this problem. and then i downloaded contig, and defragged my arma2 directory. it worked. CameronMcDonald 146 Posted December 5, 2010 Man, ArmA 2 has never been better. It must just be my system, but I recently got a 24" monitor, and holy tits, it never crashes unless I ask for the square root of -1, plus it runs just as well at the higher resolution (1920 x 1080) as it did on 1280 x 1024. Maybe if the majority of these people who claim it is so unstable were to submit their goddamn crash files to Dwarden, then they'd be able to get some fixes going. Oh well. MOAR gaming for me. xxbbcc 6 Posted December 5, 2010 Thanks everyone - I'll probably get the patches then. I don't know from where you get the impression that the game is "pretty badly broken".1.56 runs pretty stable here too. If it crashes then because I caused it. Simply from what I've seen since the beta I'm using - it seemed that lots of unhandled issues have been introduced after that and I decided to wait until I get the general impression that things are working normally. KeyCat 131 Posted December 5, 2010 Only way to find out how good your system handle the latest patch is to try it. If your casious make a copy of your A2:OA directory then you can revert if need be. Since it's lots of data a defrag is highly recommended after mucking around... /KC
vasmkd 12 Posted December 5, 2010 1.56 plus a ARMA2 directory defrag, +1 for that and there is no problems on my system. The game runs smooth and i havn't got choppy gameplay yet and no crashes etc.
xxbbcc 6 Posted December 5, 2010 Thanks for all the views - I had 1.54 before and read pretty bad things about 1.55. After this thread I installed 1.56 and the game seems to be much better than 1.54.73968b was. Good job on BIS' part.
KEVINMGXP 20 Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) does this inplies to me to? I mean i have pretty much a lot of problems lately with Arma II OA, the odd thing is that no single player game has problems and the work i do on a mission atm does not seem the get afected by it eather. But the main campains tend to go off track big time not only the new PMC but harvest red and all the others acts slow on annimation and the mission goals tend to go off track to, i have several stuff i can point out to is it possible that my game is broken? for some reason after the last update? the PMC campain for instance is for me unplayable, it gives in the notebook of the game and in the the personal notes on the character you play an error is shown that there is a missing boddy. So i can't proceed the mission because i can't find the boddy in the red area, i can take a screen shot tonight and maybe post it so you know what i mean. after the last patch before PMC was released i began to have troubles with harvest red and the OA campain also on baff, the campain missions are tend to go off track, the annimations and cutscenes are slowed down enourmus. what do i need to do to solve this reinstall the game? did i installed the patches wrong what is the order of patch install when you own Arma II and OA + BAF before installing PMC, do i need to install the light version when i have the full version of PMC? regards Edited December 6, 2010 by KBourne
Shadow NX 1 Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) Very happy with 1.56, Urban areas are less demandind, less lod and texture popups and overall bit better performance. Only one major thing left to fix for me if BIS really want to satisfy my patch needs: Handguns and Rifles and AIs... had it so many times that the AI cant get out of the pistol mode again so they just stand, kneel or lie there in the pistol anim and look around which is a extreme showstopper bug to me as this happens all the time to me. Even if you let them drop the weapons in hope that they switch to their rifles again they are still in the pistol anim. Back in OFP there simply was a possibility to order a AI to switch to a certrain weapon which saddly isnt possible anymore in ArmA, hope that can be fixed as it seems rather easy to fix.
