Possible BAF Update Add. Units

Urghhhhh NO MORE BLUEFOR PLEASE!

And no more Special forces BS...

ArmA is supposed to be about large conflicts isn't it? So why do I find myself playing in a campaign where I'm a 4 or 2 man squad fighting "Evil Dictators" again and again.

Can we get a campaign like CWC or Resistance again?

That's your opinion. Arma can be about whatever. Sounds like we're getting Russians back, so chill.

I'd love more BLUFOR.

Hasn't the difference between DLC and addons been discussed here enough times?

I'd support more OPFOR and a campaign to go with it. Playing against the Russians is getting bloody boring, especially when they're not even our enemies any more.

I'd like OPFOR as long as it's not just reskins. I'd love to see things we don't have in arma. We have all these "Specops" super modified M4s and XM8s and stuff on bluefor. I'd like to see some badass AK variants.

As for a campaign, I'd trade the campaign for a decent sized island.

As usual, I'll point out that islands that big take a LONG time to complete, so the likelyhood of seeing them in the DLCs is fairly slim.

Off the top of my head, from announced info on the website/blog/wiki:

Sara took some 18 months to make.

Chenerus somewhere in the region of 2 years.

Takistan around 15 months.

Yes, we're all capable of waiting. But BIS has to fund those 12 - 18 months of work from somewhere (money doesnt grow on trees, artists need paying, bills need paying etc etc). And that is why we're not likely to see a takistan/chenerus size island in a $10/9 euro/£8 DLC.

Its just not economically viable for them...

Thats why we've seen much smaller islands terrains in the DLCs, because they have a much stricter time-limit within which to create the map.

Fair do's, but I'd much rather they work on slightly smaller terrains than Chernarus or Takistan, rather than units addons. It's all well and good to have toys to play with, but when we're running out of places to use them, where's the fun in that? We've got plenty of unit addons provided by both BIS and the community, so I don't feel we need much more.

Even if terrain weren't an option for BIS to create, I'd prefer they create something along the lines of GUI or module related.

What if they created a large empty terrain map and you could enter a module that populates the map with rocks and vegetation? And then by way of scripting or something you'd be able to define perimeters that could make how dense or barren the map was, whether the flooring was woodland or desert... whatever. Then you could have the choice of saving the map or something if you were pleased with how it turned out

Yeah we have a BLUFOR DLC, a INDEPENDENT DLC now we need a OPFOR DLC. If we get China the that DLC will probably be better than OFP DR

Opfor always end up dead anyways. More Blufor is fine for me, and so is opfor, I don't care either way. I just want BIS to give us a usable piece of terrain, not that proving ground crap with 3 buildings and some trees.

Icebreakr made Lingor in 6months. If the Terrain Makers at BIS kick it up a notch and work for 6 months on a new terrain we would have a great new DLC and many would be happy. I don't see why they feel the need to release a new DLC every month or 2. Take 4-6 months on the next DLC and it will be something to look forward to.

Maybe in the mean time release small $2-5 DLCs just containing new units, or something, nothing more. Just to keep things going.

Because they have to fund that 4-6 months of development from somewhere.

They cant just pluck money out of mid-air to pay artists, designers and programmers for their work.

If BIS keeps maps of this quality, albeit small, rolling out, I'd still be quite damned happy. Shapur is great, the Proving Grounds are awesome... sure, you can't fly a fast jet over them for fear of getting lost, but for infantry work? Excellent.

Proving Ground is too small even for infantry

few minutes walk

if it was 4 times bigger and had 4 times more objects (not 3 houses, 2 roads ended in field, few dozen of trees) it could be infantry map wanna-be

but it is too small even for inf, for me - it is shame to release 2 roads, 3 houses map (1 house is shop-like on crossroad, 2 houses are some 200 meters far)

much much too small (i thought that after DLC it will change comparing to 1.56 patch, but not, it is the same)

Proving Ground should not been left in such form , probably no addonmaker would dare to release such unfinished island

it is like releasing half tank without turret and truck, just hull, wheels, driver's hatch...

those trees without leaves make atmosphere for screenshot, but for SP mission it is too small for me,

BAF islands are also too small to transport units by APC for minute to place of action and aboard them to attack
