NevilleBartos 10 Posted September 24, 2010 so yeah im not sure if this is a bug or what, but being able to lock onto enemy factories with tab targeting in armor is pretty lame, especially when you can lock onto them from 1-2km away through mountains, buildings etc, please fix this, it really takes the sport out of warfare matches. dmarkwick 261 Posted September 26, 2010 Could this be a simple difficulty setting fix?
NevilleBartos 10 Posted September 26, 2010 (edited) hmm i will test whether difficulty settings make a difference, but i doubt it will make a difference as we usually play on expert mode. Edit: just tested it and difficulty setting doesnt make a difference. Edited September 26, 2010 by NevilleBartos
Pulverizer 1 Posted September 27, 2010 (edited) Perhaps some other group or units in your group "knowsAbout" the buildings and that's how you can target them also? It kinda works like a data link for fighter jets or attack helicopters, only between all types of units. I remember sending a lone AI soldier with hold fire order to keep an eye on the enemy base in OFP CTI, to safely dispose of the pesky Shilkas guarding it by getting a missile lock on them beyond view distance and line of sight. NevilleBartos 10 Posted September 27, 2010 i see what your saying but no i tested it in the editor, its easy to see just place an opfor building on one side of a hill, and an abrams on the other side, jump in the gunners seat and hit tab, you will see what i mean. NevilleBartos 10 Posted September 28, 2010 Sooo, i was thinking of submitting a ticket on this issue on the CIT, but it seems noone else sees it as a major issue? Surely there must be a few warfare players out there that have found this to be a problem? Would love to see a return to the A2 days where the only thing you could target is running vehicles. CarlGustaffa 4 Posted September 28, 2010 A running abrams? If so chances are he becomes known due to hearing abilities. And that knowledge tend to be quite inaccurate, especially if based on hearing alone. As for factories, if you know their position, why shouldn't you be able to target it? It's like "Okay, we are here, our target is n meter in d direction from our position. Watch that direction and open fire when you can". Seems fully possible to me, although with AI there is not much communication going (thank god) to manage it. Try to setup an enemy tank on the other side of the ridge. Make your gunner target it. Make sure the tank moves diagonally towards you over the ridge. Is the gunner able to track him accurately, or is there a sudden jump when the tank comes over the ridge? You can also use hint to get an accurate reading of direction to him, and compare that to the weapon direction of the main gun.
NevilleBartos 10 Posted September 28, 2010 As for factories, if you know their position, why shouldn't you be able to target it? thats the problem, i seem to be able to target them without knowing they are there, and without any of my squad/team having spotted them first... Imperator[TFD] 444 Posted September 29, 2010 Agreed. Tab targeting can target structures that you have not made visual contact on and this needs to change ASAP.
NevilleBartos 10 Posted September 29, 2010 well i created a ticket... http://dev-heaven.net/issues/14064
nyles 11 Posted September 29, 2010 Would love to see a return to the A2 days where the only thing you could target is running vehicles. I very much agree! Cycling through targets using TAB or assigning them to yourself via the target command menu has always been an annoyance in OFP/ArmA and had a very negative impact on competitive multiplayer. With ArmA2 and arrowhead things seem to have worsened a lot. Some units like aircraft or some of the tanks can TAB cycle through enemies. This takes away all the fun with a single button press. Even worse, this mechanic appears to be inconsistently applied. Tank like the T55 cannot cycle through targets that way, while others like the M1A1 or T72 can. It is very critical for competitive gaming that a balancing pass is done on the entire lock-on logic. Ideally, TAB cycling through infantry, empty vehicles and structures is limited to cadet mode (if at all) and disabled for all units in higher difficulty settings. Ideally, it is possible to disable lock-on and target mark-ups entirely via difficulty settings and also make sure there are stricter rules enforced, which units show up in the target command menu to avoid exploits and abuse. NevilleBartos 10 Posted September 30, 2010 yeah i dont know whats up with the T-55, must be a bug as even the T-34 can Tab cycle. I agree the option to control the way tab cycling is implemeted through difficulty params is really the ultimate fix, would be nice to at least be able to turn the tab cycling of infantry off, its really not necessary especially now BIS have introduced FLIR and countermeasures. NevilleBartos 10 Posted September 30, 2010 optional tab cycle feature requested. http://dev-heaven.net/issues/14094
Xerxes-17 10 Posted September 30, 2010 Does anyone know what varibale controls if a unit/weapon can tab lock or not in the configs? Canlock = x seems to be specific for missiles and ballistic computer does not seem to change it.
