Stryker MGS and MEV fixes

Recommended Posts

Updated 06-05-2011

It really annoyed me how the MEV (ambulance) Stryker can't hold any troops at all, despite the ambulance versions of other vehicles--like the BMP-2 and M113--can. This is also counter to the actual MEV, which can carry four patients on stretchers or six less seriously-wounded men in regular seating. What's strange is that BIS's MEV model can carry the full nine passengers of the ICV model. For balance, though, I've kept the number of passengers to eight.

The Stryker MGS is another annoyance. The fact that there is no gunner--only a commander and driver--not only breaks the convention of other vehicles that have only two positions (like the M113), but can also cause problems in Warfare. Thus, I've fixed the MGS Stryker to display its positions as gunner and driver rather than driver and commander.

Summary: The Stryker MEV now has eight passenger positions. The Stryker MGS no longer displays a commander position; it is now a gunner position. You do not need this file if you are already using the TGW Vehicle Fixes mod.

Server key is included.

I can't believe I never realized the MEV doesn't hold any troops. Hell I didn't even realize there was a Stryker MEV either, only a M113. Even crazier is that BIS made it this way. Kinda hurts the usage in MP games.

Thanks for the fixes!

good job. Its really annoying that BIS sent out several strykers that are in certain ways useless. I hope they follow up and make them workable, just like you did with the MEV. Would love to see the mortar carrier actually functional.

Since in practice crew operation is more like a tank than an APC, why not give it the BIS tank crew standard of Commander/Gunner/Driver (which would reflect reality)?

Another issue: MGS does not have a .50 cal coaxial MG. It has an 7.62mm M240C operated by the gunner and a pintle-mounted .50 cal M2 that can be operated by the commander if unbuttoned (but with only a limited arc of fire).

He cannot change model issues Akd42. BIS only gave it 2 positions, he can't add another without editing the model...

It's good that the MGS now has Driver and Gunner... makes more sense. Plus I love that I can use the MEV to hold people too lol.

Hi, as i've uninstalled the OA from my ArmA2 game... but will be great or at least i think that it would, if you could make the MEV carry some more wounded on the top, as the AAV7 from the ArmA2; maybe as a separate vehicle so the mission makers could choose wich to use in the missions, if the one that you've made that can carry combat troops.. or the other one that can only cary woundeds but two or three more maybe even four more wounded soldiers, on the top of the vehicle, just that.. as the AAV7 on the ArmA2. I think that it'll be usefull as pure Med-Evac vehicle. Let's C ya

Those suggestions would require the editing of the model, which isn't possible because the MLODs aren't publicly available.

When the strykers were made there really was no reference material on the web for the interior of the MEV (I know, I was working on a Stryker project at the same time as A2 was in development)

Last I checked, you can heal at the MEV, when was the last time you actually got into a battlefield ambulance when you were wounded in game?

I havent checked in a while, but I thought the Mortar Carrier worked with the artillery module?

It doesn't work with the (old) artillery module, but with a little bit of effort you can make it work in your missions as indicated in this bug report.

The problem is BIS didn't register the ammo type and compute a ballistics table for the MCV's 120mm mortar.

I'd appreciate if Xeno246 could roll this in a future update.

Doesn't change the fact that they actually modelled the interior, but just made it not able to be entered.

Its just a copy of the regular ICV interior, a copypasta if you will.

Almost 100% sure that this "community" would bitch just as much about it having the incorrect ICV interior as they do about it having no interior at all. :j:

that's rather sad. Don't enter the interior if you do not like it, but us who actually want to play the game and have an improved gameplay experience enjoy the fact that we can enter our ambulance vehicle.

This. It would be lovely if BIS put some stretchers back there, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I am gonna be able to drive my wounded mates away from the battle in multiplayer though.

Hahahaha...

1. I love that we've gone straight for the "if you dont like it dont use it" excuse. I'm sure you'd happily ignore the fact that you've gone from incapacitated and writhing around on the floor to sitting comfortably in the back of an ICV. But hey, dont like it? Dont use it. Or are you honestly telling me that you, as mr "i'm bitching about the lack of an interior" wouldn't be starting a different thread about how "this game sucks because the stryker mev has the wrong interior" if BIS had enabled it from the start?

2. Since I never play with you, how can you comment on my gaming habits?

3. I'm not entirely sure how sitting in the back of a stryker MEV for the remainder of the mission is really improving the gameplay. Honestly, and I do mean honestly, how many times have you actually included an extended ride in the back of any ambulance into one of your missions?

I should hope a company like BIS, which makes SIMs for the military, would have access to better information than what's just floating around on the internet.
