kilo1-1 1 Posted May 30, 2014 This is very weird. So I got my server up and running last night by reverting to beta5 and back to RC1 again. It didn't work when I ran beta5 but started to work when I ran RC1. I ran a couple missions that night using the latest versions of CBA and LIFTER at the time. So then I updated my LIFTER to 1.0.6.3 and now its not working again. I then reverted back to beta5 and it still did not work. As of now, I just reinstalled my ArmA 3 server and the only things I have on it right now are the latest versions of CBA, ALiVE, LIFTER, and Task Force Radio. The server still unfortunately crashes when it starts up. When I have CBA, ALiVE, and Task Force Radio on, it works just fine but when I add LIFTER to the mix, it stops working. I am so far unable to reproduce this. Three questions:Exactly what is a/the "default BIS COOP mission"? (There are more than one coop mission delivered with A3) Are you running the stable branch (1.18.124200) or the dev branch when the crashes occur? Is your server using a full A3 client install or the dedicated server package (the latter having Steam App Id 233780)? Thanks for looking into it. It's hard to reproduce but I still believe it has something to do with the latest version of CBA and possibly something to do with LIFTER. I never had these kinds of troubles before I updated up to CBA RC1. I believe it was Headhunters or Escape Stratis. I am running the latest stable branch. My server is using the full A3 retail version. And I can't catch anything with the server log files because it just cuts out when the server is initializing. ===================================================================== == C:\TCAFiles\Users\user\155\arma3server.exe == arma3server.exe -malloc=tbb4malloc_bi -mod=@cba_a3@alive;@rav_lifter_a3;@task_force_radio -name=defaultServer -profiles=defaultServer -config=defaultServer\server.cfg -cfg=defaultServer\basic.cfg -ip=216.231.140.25 -port=2902 -cpuCount=2 -exThreads=0 Original output filename: Arma3Retail_Server Exe timestamp: 2014/05/28 10:25:00 Current time: 2014/05/30 04:53:08 Type: Public Branch: Stable Version: 1.20.124746 Allocator: C:\TCAFiles\Users\user\155\dll\tbb4malloc_bi.dll ===================================================================== AppId parsing successful. killswitch 19 Posted May 30, 2014 (edited) This appears to be a bit of a Heisenbug. You state that: I then reverted back to beta5 and it still did not work so it is not just the new RC1. Also, there appears to be two issues here (possibly related): * The server sometimes never starts up fully. This happens both with RC1 and beta5. * The server crashes when you are setting up one of the default BIS coop missions and both CBA and RAV_Lifter is loaded. I'm scratching my head here, but I'll keep trying to figure out what the issue is. EDIT: I see you are launching the server with -exThreads=0. Try removing that or use -exThreads=1 Edited May 30, 2014 by Killswitch
erazeri 1 Posted May 30, 2014 (edited) Had the same problems of the server not fully starting up. Running without mods seemed to fix it so I started messing around. Finally I got my DS working and it seems like using reportingIP = "noreport"; and RC1 fixed my issues, might've been something I missed though that fixed it :S EDIT: Issue came back after changing the -mod line again. Didn't change any content just the -mod line. Very odd behaviour as changing it back again fixed it.. Edited May 30, 2014 by eRazeri

Didn't change any content just the -mod line. Very odd behaviour as changing it back again fixed it.. How is your -mod line setup? I was randomly messing around with it to see if the order I had the mods setup could be causing it but to no real avail. EDIT : I think I fixed the entire issue. For whatever reason, my server didn't install Curator, nor did it add it to the mod list so I had to do that myself. Now everything is working fine... for now. So for anyone else with this issue, try adding Curator to your -mod line. EDIT 2: Now my server is crashing again after a restart to upload a new mission to the server. No changes to the -mod line at all or anything else to the server. What is going on? Edited June 1, 2014 by Kilo1-

BL1P 35 Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) Hi CBA dudes. On the first page you say Current version: 1.0.6.212 RC1 On downloading it you get name = "Community Base Addons v1.06.140320"; When a client tries to use six they get told latest version is 1.0.6.212 Am I missing something or is there a version slip up going on ? tinter 186 Posted June 11, 2014 Using the latest version of CBA, looking in the functions viewer at CBA_fnc_taskPatrol. The entire script appears to be only this. /* ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Function: CBA_fnc_taskPatrol Description: A function for a group to randomly patrol a parsed radius and location. CameronMcDonald 146 Posted July 13, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the update, team. For your consideration - http://dev.withsix.com/issues/74794. EDIT - it would appear that this version of CBA is not compatible with the current stable build, but works fine on dev / RC. SnR 1 Posted July 14, 2014 (edited) We had to revert to an earlier version through PWS(1.0.6 212). 1.0.7 clients could not see or join 1.07 servers ? Edit:A quick test that rectifies the above, shows 1.0.7 clients can join a 1.0.6 server Edited July 14, 2014 by SnR

John Kozak 14 Posted July 15, 2014 (edited) While I'm strongly on OpticalSnare's side from the moral point of view, there is really a problem with licenses. CBA is licensed under GPLv2 license. GPLv2 (at least from the point of view of FSF) makes any project dynamically linking with GPL-licensed stuff to inherit GPL. Addon dependency is analogous to dynamic linking - which means (arguably, but justifiably) that any work using CBA effectively is licensed under GPLv2 too. So, it seems, by making CBA GPL-licensed its authors really opened a can of worms. LGPL linking might have been more appropriate. noubernou 77 Posted July 15, 2014 any project dynamically linking with GPL-licensed stuff to inherit GPL. Yea, except you read that totally wrong. It specifically says dynamic linking is fine. Static linking is NOT fine. CBA would be considered a dynamic linkage. Your code is not compiling in CBA functions, it is just calling them where they exist externally in another library, which is totally fine under the GPL. Besides that, most people don't also distribute CBA with their addon, so it puts an even further separation out there in terms of licensing.

You are wrong. If it was true, there would be no need for LGPL - as LGPL is GPL with an exception that it explicitly permits dynamic linking. Read the FSF FAQ. Sorry, dynamic linking is the wrong term. I wouldn't call CBA dynamic linking in the first place either. Are you distributing CBA? No? Then it isn't an issue. CBA is an entirely separate entity. I believe that applying the GPL to SQF is inherently flawed because it is not the same paradigm as a C environment. But yea, your argument is still wrong because it is not also being distributed with the other software. They are considered "distinct" and at "arms length" by pretty much any stretch of the imagination.

You wouldn't call CBA dynamic linking. Others would. I have no intention of arguing with the "mod making majority", though - tired of dirty tricks and disrespect our "respected community members" spill around. My point is made. I am a member of the CBA team. I don't consider it dynamic linking. Therefore my opinion actually carries weight on the matter. Your point isn't made, because you were flat out wrong. I am sorry if you feel like we are using dirty tricks somehow, not sure what that means other than you possibly having a persecution complex, but if you want to argue the legalities of a projects license with members of the project then you are probably not going to have a very fun time. Right, right - the fact that you are the member of the project magically means GPL is not GPL anymore. See what I mean by dirty tricks? :) Whatever you meant with that license may differ from what is actually said in that license. Just like the controversial steam workshop license discussed in the thread referenced above. Edited July 15, 2014 by DarkWanderer
noubernou 77 Posted July 15, 2014 Right, right - the fact that you are the member of the project magically means GPL is not GPL anymore. See what I mean by dirty tricks? :) The fact that we determine what we consider to be an incorporation of CBA, where the GPL has no basis for rendering that decision in a system like Arma, means yes, we do. The fact that we are the ones who would enforce the license and we choose to enforce the license in respect to the position I stated also means YES we do determine how the GPL is interpreted for our project. Also it is not an argument from authority, because we are the authority, the unequivocal be all and end all of the interpretation of our license. There literally is no other authority or position that can broadcast these sorts of things, so there is no way to have any other appeal. Now seriously, why is this even being discussed in this thread? It seems horribly off topic, and you are just dragging mod teams around through the mud for no good reason. No, you don't - court does. You merely give the definition - the rest is done by legal interpretation. It seems horribly off topic, and you are just dragging mod teams around through the mud for no good reason. No, I didn't drag anyone through mud. In my post, I hinted that the choice of license wasn't perfectly good, and LGPL may have not created the issues. Within adequate people communities, this is called "giving constructive criticism", and if you can't take it and instead respond with harsh reaction - that is your problem, not mine. Whether the issues are actually of concern is a thing established through facts digging, not through name calling ;) Now seriously, why is this even being discussed in this thread? Because my point was relevant to the situation discussed within this thread, but then you started OT ;) Edited July 15, 2014 by DarkWanderer
