Bis Terms of service, and repressed remarks

Recommended Posts

So what is this, now people are forced to agree not to voice their opinion on these boards with a new terms of service page that pop up with rules that you can't talk about things that are not inline with the corporate agendas? And then we're pushed off into no mans land in the OFF TOPIC section to voice our opinion about how we (the consumer) feels about BIS's choice to become steam exclusive? I've been supporting this developer for over 12 years. I play with a group of 12 guys online and not one of them is willing pay a dime for anything steam related. What happened?

What happened is called:

Corporate fascism. The other side of socialism and just as bad. Paying CEOs millions to run a company into the ground. What a shame.

Forcing people to agree to not say certain things is not the the answer mods, and you know it. People will just blog, the internet is a large place.

I wish you all at BIS the best!

I for one advocate corporate neo-surreal post-dadaist radical anarchist corporatism, where we dream up numbers through hypnosis sessions, then arrange the numbers by throwing them onto glue covered paper while riding a red horse and wearing a tutu, and then denying that any authority can force us to recognize the results, prior to setting our investors cars on fire and getting drunk on ethyl alcohol bought from the pharmacy down the road.

Now that kind of corporate agenda would ensure the success of BI's future titles.

As for steam: It is nice. idk where the problem is. If steam ever turns rubbish, I´ll drop it. While it is good, they get my support. And so does BI.

Perhaps you could point towards the "new terms of service" popups?

"Valve made tremendous improvements to their system, which made the installation/update process much more user-friendly - for both developers and customers“

The decision was mainly about being able to distribute an alphaversion of the game, recieving community feedback and adressing it through delta patching which would otherwise require way too many ressources.

Steam is also a obstacle for pirates which are a imminent problem.

If BIS can say that maybe there would have been no Arma 3 at all anymore if it wasn't for the advantages of steam, is that "facism"?

I don't think they decide how much money they have and how much ressources are required for a successful new game.

I wasn't a fan of steam due to some (minor) irritating experiences several years ago but took the plunge anyway. Steam has evolved, it's better than it was. For ordinary game play in ArmaIII I haven't noticed any difference or hinderance and the benefits to installing and updating are worth it, so what's the huge objection? The initial sales showed most were happy to buy a steam Exclusive product?

Look at how often the alpha is updated, the Devs can work with it more efficiently which is great and we don't have to have endless help sessions on TS3 explaining how to update and where to download the beta from etc. It was sometimes a nightmare in Arma2 when half the squad were on different game versions at the start of a mission.

IB4L (Well what do you expect - there is a steam thread for this, why make a new one?)

I had not posted in a long time, I'm guessing it's probably a new warrning popup page with amended rules over the last year or so. Anyway, the page had all these rules that imply that you can't talk about things that discredit the game in their own words. I'll have to login from another location IP and I'll snap a copy of the page. it's not coming up now that I've agreed. No big deal.

"Valve made tremendous improvements to their system, which made the installation/update process much more user-friendly - for both developers and customers“

I'm aware of that, and it's a great thing. My question is, In over 10 years of development,BIS can't make a similar system exclusive to their game so they don't have to rely on a 3d party app to do that? My greatest issue with Value is that you don't always have an internet connection, and then you're locked out of your game. Will they make a patch to fix this down the road when ArmA 15 comes out and no one is looking at ArmA III anymore? (except me) And all the other issues it introduced into the game. Why would anyone want something else running in the background eating up more memory and possibly causing other issues and memory conflicts. There's enough junk running in Windows, who needs one more thing. There's a million reasons why it's not a better option. Read all the blogs out there.

Steam is also a obstacle for pirates which are a imminent problem.

That is just not true, in fact the opposite. Steams has been hacked so many times I've lost count. In fact it introduces more security holes.

If BIS can say that maybe there would have been no Arma 3 at all anymore if it wasn't for the advantages of steam, is that "fascism"?

Great, I would say please don't develop v3.

Why not improve on arma II with v3 enhancements enabled by a mode. and just charge for updates. And fix all the hundreds of AI issues that were never fixed.

What are you getting in v3 that you couldn't have in ArmA-II?, v3 Programing enhancements could be implemented in ArmA II. But as far as new islands, that could be created by the community. BIS should be focusing on better tools and instructional manuals. There's plenty of talented people who get hung up on all the complexity's of learning the tools to develop content, it's ridiculous. One has to ask, where is the real focus from BIS's point of view. Fine, charge for these updates. I would be happy to pay.

Not disrespect PurePassioni. Look anyone can argue against my views. However, 2 points. first, I'm a customer. And second, I've been alive for over 38 years and I've seen this same kind of thing happen over and over, and it's destroyed the quality and compassion of games every time. The success of a company is irrelevant to the quality of a game. It is what it is.

I guess I shouldn't be so pessimistic. I just hope this is a temporary thing, and that it doesn't effect BIS in a bad way.

I feel your pain man. Look it's useless to argue. BIS has made a decision they won't go back. even if it would be easy to make a non Steam exclusive version, that's what has been stated by Dwarden at least.

Moreover nobody gives a dime if we so called "Steamhaters"are long term customers.

You want to play ArmA 3 You have to go over Valve and it's Steam exclusive distribution. Otherwise you have the right to stick to Arma 2 that's it.

Don't say that Valve is cornering the market and things like corporate fascism. That's considered conspiracy theory over here. :bounce3:

@ DM

I'm butthurt as well!!!!! So what?? :uzi:

BI just needed someone who got a global + working distribution network. Think more about sales + profit.... doubt the marketing/PR yaddablah.

@ PurePassion

With all due respect

"Valve made tremendous improvements to their system, which made the installation/update process much more user-friendly - for both developers and customers“

but this is just a lame excuse. We've done for over ten years without. And please don't give me that crap with installation and update process. I have never had any problems with installations and updating and so on. If there were problems with updating it was only steam side.

Moreover seems that IQ has dropped to the center of earth reading certain shit sometimes.

Moreover I have the impression that we "Steam haters" have a problem with Valve Steam meanwhile you Steam supporters have a big issue with us "Steam haters". You just need to read the Steam threads to understand this.

The problem that most of the steam users don't understand that we Steam haters want Valve and Steam the f*ck out of the way. We have argued to death in the various steam threads that we disagree with Valve's/Steams Eula.

If BIS can say that maybe there would have been no Arma 3 at all anymore if it wasn't for the advantages of steam, is that "facism"?

I don't think they decide how much money they have and how much resources are required for a successful new game.

with all due respect but this is bullshit as well. When ArmA was number one on steam it was for DayZ. Valve smelled big money to be made. They cut a deal with BIS. They knew exactly that most of the ArmA fanbase would accept even Valve/Steam in the middle of our balls just to play our beloved game. Gaming is an addiction and Valve knows that very well. They knew that most of the former non Steam users would be forced to open a Steam account, otherwise no Arma 3.

Well then f*cking be it.

Rant over.:shoot:

p.s. I love ranting:inlove:

This is a quote from what has been stated by BIS.

Yeah I read all that stuff. Man I'm playing since CWC and I had never ever experienced any problems with installing or updating or patching or whatsoever. IMHO if someone isn't capable to install and update a game than he better should find himself another hobby.

I gonna give one to BIS and that's they stated it's a better developer platform. OK. The main point is that a lot of people have problems with Valve and Steam due to their EULA. That is what you steam supporters really don't understand.

It doesn't matter in any case. My initial shock has settled quickly I can live with that.

There is already a steam discussion, here:

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?138343-Steam-discussion&highlight=steam

Please take your steam discussion to that thread.

Regarding the pop up: It sounds like the 'pop up' that is so 'fascist' is a reminder to look over the revised forum rules. In this case, there is nothing to discuss. If there is some problem with the forum pop up, please contact Dwarden or Placebo, or give general (constructive) feedback here:

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?72048-New-Forums-Feedback-thread-Bugs-Suggestions-here-please

If you have questions about the forum rules, please ask a moderator here:

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?72059-The-all-new-Ask-a-moderator-about-the-forum-amp-rules

Regarding the allegations of corporate fascism, I am unsure if you are familiar with the definition of the term. It is not applicable here. I would appreciate if you had some concerns to address, that you would leave out the pejorative, misappropriated buzzwords and stick to the issues.
