2500 ping issue on dedicated server
johnsm replied to nobrainer's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
guys don't waste your time with this, this never worked and never will. I come from Operation Flashpoint days and it never worked there and doesn't even work with Arma 3. It doesnt work because gamespy grabs internal ip and passes it to gamespy server. I have to put all the servers on public up in unprotected environment. -

fully delete this folder C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\Expansion\beta that should fix your issue -
ARMA 2 reporting IP to the gamespy
johnsm replied to johnsm's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
Dwarden, can you make a parameter in which we could alter the ip or the server which gets passed to gamespy? Right now on all arma 2 and arma 3 servers that are behind NAT they pass there internal ip to gamespy, that is why ping shows 2500 in game browser. -
I had this issue every time the server was behind firewall, searched web found tons of treads about this with no resolution! Current server runs in DMZ behind cisco firewall with open ports. Server "103419 " shows in Game spy list with ping 2500, and also accessible for everyone. I had ran packet sniffers and found one packet that is transmitting internal ip of the system to game spy server "IN DATA", seems like its always sending from 2302 to 27900 UDP This is not the problem with Firewall as Firewall changes header Source ip and Destination, it does not touch data portion! Could we add some option to be able to specify which ip the server will report to game spy

ARMA 2 reporting IP to the gamespy
johnsm replied to johnsm's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
thank you for reply sir, when i set the ip to external -name=Warfare -profiles=Warfare -cfg=Warfare\basic.cfg -config=Warfare\config.cfg -ip=67.171.7.139 -mod=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion Server says Server creation failed Cannot start host on port 2302, tried other ports same thing. BTW: ARMA 3 has exactly same issue, not just on our server! -
Arma2 server performance! (Cores, basic.cfg)
johnsm replied to m0dg0d's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
set arma to 2 cores, get i7 with overclock to 4ghz + that is the only way to make it work faster. -
That incorrect, i believe it should be 1400 max

Server drops network to 0 when new players connect

I set the verifySignatures=1, and don't see that problem any more..... -
Server drops network to 0 when new players connect
johnsm posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
When new players connect i arma2 server drops the upload completely to 0 for .5 - 1 second and after that sends massive amount of packets. That only happens when game going for 4+ hours! ARMA server memory usage over 1.2 GB, server FPS during the drop about 20-25 Running bennys warfare 071 and also same thing in 073.3 beta Here is a picture of whats going on. Can that be because of verifySignatures=2; ? I tried with file check and without same thing. I have tired changing config maxmessages and minbandwith still does same thing Here is specs cpu i7 4.6 ghz 6 gb of ram win 2008 server beta 1.62.103718 Data center backbone 100 mbit configs: language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=93750; Resolution_Bpp=32; Windowed=0; MaxCustomFileSize=0; MinBandwidth=104857600; MaxBandwidth=1073741824; MaxMsgSend=512; MaxSizeGuaranteed=1400; MaxSizeNonguaranteed=700; MinErrorToSend=0.0049999999; MinErrorToSendNear=0.0049999999; serverLongitude=-97; serverLatitude=38; serverLongitudeAuto=-97; serverLatitudeAuto=38; -
i don't get any difference in fps from changing that, the only thing that drops FPS is minerrortosend even if u have 6 xeon x5570 arma will only use 2 cores rofl
-
changed this value from 1024 to default 128 no more network message pending in RTP Current config language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=93750; Resolution_Bpp=32; Windowed=0; MaxCustomFileSize=0; MinBandwidth=50000000; MaxBandwidth=100000000; MinErrorToSend=0.0040000002; 30+ people on Bennys map

ARMA 2: OA beta build 106400 (1.62 MP compatible build, post 1.62 release)
johnsm replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
any idea what this errors can cause by? I tried 3 older betas and server / clients run no addons or mods running latest Benny warfare and other maps I get about 10-20 of this errors in RPT every second/ cannot use magazine XXXXX in muzzle XXXXXX -
that's all in your imagination. I see absolutely no difference in how many packets server sends to each client when changing maxmessages sent from 256 to 1024 using NetworkMonitor with 30 people on Bennys warfare Id like to see more DEVELOPER POSTS in here demit, tired of guessing
-
This thread doesnt get any love, but i think this parameter is the most important one! What is the deference if you set it to 10 mbit or 90 mbit, will the server use more CPU and drop FPS? I get red chains when its set to 10 mbit in warfare, but when set to 50 mbit "less" chains.

Configuring dedicated server for performance
johnsm replied to infection's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
Use this page to compare cpu's for arma 2. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html The 2500k and Xeon 1245 about the same in terms of single core processing speed. I mean shit i downgraded E5 2690 8 core cpu to I7 with overclock and it rapes xeon -
Benny where can i get the latest beta the 073.3 ?

y no headless client support ?

ARMA 2: OA beta build 106400 (1.62 MP compatible build, post 1.62 release)
johnsm replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
With this beta i get about 30 mb of this same error when game starts "Warfare BE 073.3 Worked fine with 103718 Error in expression <_this select 7} else {550}; waitUntil {townModeSet && WFBE_Parameters_Ready}; > Error position: <townModeSet && WFBE_Parameters_Ready}; > Error Undefined variable in expression: townmodeset Also it made headless client crash last night -
[Tutorial] Server bandwidth & Optimisation
johnsm replied to terox's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
big packets = more latency and lag, especially if u have people with 200 + ping. i had set both "guaranteed and none guaranteed" to 1200 and max packet size i saw was 600 bytes, and it caused a bit log lag like people teleport etc not 100% confirmed. -
[Tutorial] Server bandwidth & Optimisation
johnsm replied to terox's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
Terox i have noticed the "MinErrorToSend" helps the server FPS, I have mine set to .004 and i get around 20 fps with 30 people after like 2-3 hours of warfare. I also cant get arma to use more than 10 mbit :( With minbandwith set high i don't get desync, when i had minbandwith 10mbit every one had always desync from (10 to 200) With maxmessage set high server still sends average 50-100 packets to each client per sec So thats 100 packets / 45 FPS = 3 packets per frame to each client - im not sure any more if the maxmessage send is per client because it dont make any fucking sense. Also i notice many clients are sending big packets to server from 900 bytes to 1200 bytes, while server is defaulted at 512 / 256 -
High end Arma 2 server (Wasteland) looking for guidance on basic.cfg
johnsm replied to Skutch05's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
sounds like bmrf server..... Few things u sould know about ARMA 1. Uses 2 gb of ram max 2. Uses 2 cores max 3. Hypertreading hurts it and it needs more ghz http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html your cpu is like 30th place i wouldn't call it high end ! As far as config play only with minbandwith and maxmessages and minerrortosend everything else should be default. -
Dedicated server performance
johnsm replied to Sibolo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
If i set min bandwith high like your i get tons of errors in RPT: Network message pending.... But. Less desync! I use beta 103718 -
With this parameters "Below" on Benny warfare map with 16 people i'm seeing total average of 670 packets being sent each second and received around 350 packets (Using network monitor 3.4) About 50-100 packets a sec per client and i still get network message pending and desyncs while server fps is at 48 Packets are all different sizes from, 64 bytes to 950 bytes! The settings below don't make any sense at all. Please don't delete this post as nobody knows clearly how to set it up from ofp days, even in arma 3! Thanks.
