How presumptuous. You don't buy ArmA for the SP, plenty of other people do.
-
That's how it was meant to be in the commanche. The cockpit design reflects it so each unit gets a better view for their task if they're in the right seats.

Retail version available for preorder at Gamestop IT
trent replied to Michele's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Definitely not real. -
So will the people who pre-ordered on the basis of having a singleplayer campaign to play be eligible for a refund?
-
No fall damage for vehicles? Fell 2000m in the Panther and not a scratch.
-
If you have Arma 2 you can use AiA and then load all the submarine and warship mods in Arma 3. Submarines work great as you can imagine.
-
Just a small niggle but running over the civi offroad with the APCs causes quite a bit of damage to yourself when they explode.

I couldn't find any text for the Sidewinder but I know from the old paa files that jets can use them.
-
Thank you. Flipping through them there isn't much there, except what I think other people have already noted about the ACP-CP2 and Vermin being labelled .45 instead of 9mm and the 3GL meant to have an ammo capacity of 3. I did find that the L-159 is called the A-143 and the Keltec KSG is called the Bulldog. All shotties have 8 round pellet and slug mags but only the AA-40 has the 20 round hi-ex option. Because jets are my everything I noted the A-143 can use unguided rocket pods x24, laser-guided GBU x2, Mk82 x2. The F-35F can take the GBUs and Mk82s.

I went PBO diving again and dug out a few icons for units not in the game. Namer APC had pics of its recovery/minesweeper version. The blufor 8 wheeled APC had pics of the medevac and heavy versions. Ghosthawk had an armed version in its folders. Has anyone found where the text content for the field manual is stored? Lots of references in the UI pbo but no actual text. ---------- Post added at 21:13 ---------- Previous post was at 20:54 ---------- Why would a moderator merge my thread with this one? The above has nothing to do with the BIS development blog. Do you really want to reduce the forums until it's nothing but a handful of megathreads? That ensures the least growth & traffic.

There appear to be files for the CRV version of the BLUFOR APC. Currently only the RCWS version is available ingame. Anyone want to try and get it working? I would but can't get pack pbo files without getting an error.

No counter against taking fire in the air!
trent replied to iWoundPwn's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
What exactly is the counter to ground fire in real life? Flares for long-range guided AA and not flying smack into the middle of an enemy stronghold for the rest. Use cover, fly low, and don't be surprised if flying blindly at 200kph in unknown territory means you come up on mounted machine guns before you notice them. -
At the end they say they'll use an APS in the next vid.

The Namer (Panther) and the CV9035 (Dont remember the name)
trent replied to Yairweinberg's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Thank you for this. -
The news post on Arma3.com details all the buttons to manoeuvre the camera but not the actual button to take a screencap and I can't find it ingame. It's not like they'd go through all that trouble to make such a slick camera mode and then expect us to press Print Scrn and alt-tab out to Paint, right?

The amount of bullets it was taking to put down soldiers was flagging some concerns for me so I ran some "tests" in the editor. I don't know how well current or future body armour works so it was done on civilians. T-shirts shouldn't do anything to bullets. Standing 0.5-1 meter away from them and shooting into the upper torso area until they died I found it took: MX 6.5mm - 1 bullet Mk20 5.56mm -2 bullets Scorpion 9mm - 3 bullets ACP-C2 9mm - 3 bullets Walther P99 - 4 bullets I had 7 civilians standing around in case random factors and inconsistent impacts/distances varied. The number of bullets to take them down for each gun didn't change. It takes on average one 9mm bullet in the torso to kill someone in real life (yes, I know how creepy that sounds). Two bullets in that area for definite. I know there are miracle cases and some armchair generals will bleat on about the terrible stopping power of the 9mm and even the 5.56mm but in real life a piece of metal that fast impacts on flesh like a teeny-tiny meteorite. It's not like there's a lack of gun crimes and shooting to back this up. Hydrostatic shock alone can kill you. Can you imagine if SWAT had to fire 3 bullets every time to put a person down if they used their MP5s? BIS, rescale the damage plz.

Bullets appear to be woefully underpowered
trent replied to trent's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
The thousands of handgun deaths every year would disagree with you. You seem to be under the mistaken belief that in real life people just shrug off getting shot a la the "flesh wounds" in action movies. -
Bullets appear to be woefully underpowered
trent replied to trent's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
No one's denying they exist, just that they're exceptions. It takes 3 bullets from the Scorpion EVERY TIME to kill someone wearing no armor. Something is clearly not right there. And A3 civis wear t-shirts. Use your noggin on how much protection that should offer. -
Nice. We need more planes (and tanks).
-
Boo at the lame GMG & 50 cal loadout for the Panther. No better than a jeep. I thought the trend in APCs was to stick as many different weapon systems on them no matter how impractical they were?

Even the civilians? -

*sigh* standard military issue, randomly distributed in the upper torso. -

Think we're missing the forest for the trees here. Would you expect on average an unarmoured person to not be "dropped" by four 9mm bullets at close range? -
Arma 3 extended weapons and units list taken from the Alpha
trent posted a topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
BIS have okayed "unlocking" units that weren't available in the Alpha so I went digging for any references to units we haven't seen before. The texHeaders file in every pbo lists all the folder paths for each unit. Keep in mind this list isn't from the final game (no V-22 reference in the files). Some of it may be leftovers from previous versions (I saw ToH references in there). Many use their fictional Arma names. Some use both fictional and real names leading to possible duplicate entries. I may have missed some units. Use this thread's OP to help put pics to names. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?119512-Arma-3-Confirmed-features-info-amp-discussion -
Arma 3 extended weapons and units list taken from the Alpha
trent replied to trent's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Unfortunately the structure of PBO files has changed so there is no longer any texHeader file. Also they've changed all the class names to generic "attack_chopper_1", "transport_chopper_2", etc.
