  1. If thats the case we should also have to calculate the effect of blood on the round as it passed though the body and then add the effect of wind resistance dynamically has on the bullet as it spins and the blood is flung off of it due to the change in mass.......... This is a game, its not VBS its just built with VBS technology which has stuff like blood flow/loss and wounding and dismemberment. At what point does it have to be simulated for sake of accuracy? You have to ask your self how does this add any sort of value, mission makers can add in items which can be penetrated by bullets, its really up to the mission maker to provide accurate forms of cover for the players. Again would this add value? in an assasination mission maybe, in a cut scene maybe, in which case this can be scripted with textures and a custom model if needed. but if your playing A&S or TDM does blood splatters everywhere add anything of value when you consider how large the enviroments are? I doubt i would spend more than a few moments of where i was required to be due to sitting in any one place for too long makes you a target.
  2. Arma Milsim fans can't claim that anymore, because without DayzMod and the legion that followed there would be no Arma as the product it is today, considering that there are more dayz servers than there are Arma 2 and 3 servers combined. I'm sure a massive cash injection helps any company, reguardless if they did or didn't need it. Some of the suggestions in this thread are just silly; some of the suggestions in the signatures of some people in this thread are even sillier. Seriously Arma 3 movement is an improvement over Arma 2's clunky movement, at some point it stops being fun and just becomes a routine. It sounds like allot of people want Arma to become America's Army, at some point the pace of the battle becomes so slow and drawn out that the game ceases to become a game and turns into a simulator. This is the best sort of thing to be left up to mods like ACE
  3. Known issue as of arma 2: https://dev-heaven.net/issues/14934 VBS2 does have the functionality for it though (http://resources.bisimulations.com/wiki/isJoyBtnPressed)
  4. I dont think adding gore to this game would add anything more to the table, the pace the game is at combined with the size of the enviroments would basically mean all that gore is wasted on all but a select few that would be running up to every body to see the gore. blood stains are to convey that someone is injured or dead which is all they are needed for really. omg i wish this was on the box.
  5. The problem with the sniper rifle is you have to have a really powerful rig or have the game look like crap to get a decent frame rate that doesn't affect your shot. The add the fact that most people are not willing to upgrade their system on a yearly basis. I really wish they would just remove all the grass because if it doesn't render at distance it shouldn't render at all.

    Persistent servers?

typically i find this sort of information is rarely going to be released to the community, most of the people that work on this sort of stuff keep it with in their clans, if anything there might but some joint operations that go on between some of the larger groups but the general pop isn't going to get anything but a set of hand me down instructions that kinda sorta work but not really. SealTeamSloth has persistance on their stratis life mission, there is another stratis life server that just poped up over the last week or so by a zombie group that also has a save system implemented, if i had to take a guess i would imagine they are using the ini save system that is (was) avalible on the 404Games website before the Wasteland Arma 2 people started ripping off dayz Code to add the hive to wasteland, in fact the code specifically has DayZ varibles in it. The zombie one is prone to admin abuse and they dont restart the server enough, the seal one is prone to too many restarts and people wont stay off global.

    ARMA III & Steam WORKSHOP

I highly doubt that workshop would earn add-on makers any revenue because lets be honest how many stupid hats does the community really want, let alone pay for when we already have two hat makers. (TF2 anyone?) Right now people are making money off of Arma, either by releasing content then asking for donations or monetizing their you-tube streams. anyone that accept donations is basically making money off of Arma even if 100% of that goes to pay server costs, since that is money you don't have to spend and still basically spend it on your self.

    Steam discussion

I just got to ask do all the anti steam people really read every EULA or TOS they see from the first line to the last? all of them have legaleese that require you to resolve issues via arbitration, all of them say you dont own the software the company does and your merely licensing it. most of them dont have the word "own" unless its in the phrase "you do not own..."
  9. Way better option than the first, however the ability to disable this on a per player/vehicle basis would be needed at least in script so that mission designers can override this behavior if it would otherwise break their mission.

    More Accessible Terrain Creator

I forgot to mention at the current time of this typing that academic version includes a full version of Global mapper, at least the last copy that was ordered included it. CS6? you can get CS2 for free so long as you dont expect any support, Adobe gives it out. As far as cheaper alternatives to anything you named dont bother, because all of those alternatives are crap, those are all the exact set of tools you need if you want to make "pro" maps.

    Map limits for A3?

The maps dont have any limits, the personal edition of visitor does, the professional version of Visitor that comes with VBS supports scientific notation, we were able to import whole continents into it. scroll out and it says something like 1.4x10^11 not that you could ever play that in game cause your pc would just die The community should really demand access to the VBS tool suite(and really i mean just visitor), you can get a person copy for 580.00 USD but that is just really an academic version, there should be a non profit version of that exact same tool for say 99.00 imho. Too bad BI has said they will never un-bundle visitor from the vbs suite, What takes a person with experience in the personal version of visitor a month can be accomplished in a hour with the professional(academic) version of visitor for some one with almost no training. All of those geo dem sites that have land maps of the world with shape files for their roads and cities are directly importable into vistor, granted you need to tweak them but the fact remains that it just works. VBS version of visitor is Photoshop CS6 Personal edition is Paint from windows 95

    NoBlur

Is everything in there actually needed, if you crack open the PBO there is a bunch of code for vehicles and other classes that have nothing to do with PP, specifically weapons classes, ammo, joy stick configuration and sounds.

    Arma 3 Linux Version ?

I can not for the life of me figure out this anti windows BS that the gaming community has developed over the years, everyone who "hates" windows complains about how many great games they wont ever get to play because there is no way to run it on their system. You don't have to use windows 24/7, you can use it when you want to game, Some one that refuses to install windows on its own partition just to play games for windows because their system is too pure to have windows on it, should also go and just use dial up because analog is better than digital anyway. You all forget the Win:Lose, you take an entire team which may or may not have the skill needed to make a awesome game in linux and you end up with a crappy game for both windows and linux, then what happens when "the killer gamer" is "dead" because of bugs. You can Optimize or Compromise you can't do both. this entire thread and all this going back and forth when the solution is simple: install windows on its own partition and setup grub to boot into 7 when you need to play arma, otherwise go back to recompiling the kernel in your spare time. All this time and effort spent tring to figure out ways to get around the fact that your not using windows to get it working. you could spend a couple of hours install windows, install ms security essentials, install your *nix favored browser and skip both java and flash and your done, infact your system is now already more secure than 99% of normal windows users. I think that goes with out saying for pretty much any gamer.
  14. Do you by chance have the file set to readonly?
  15. people shouldn't even bother posting in the forums about something broken unless they have already submitted feedback to the tracker not the other way around. if in doubt just use the search feature in the tracker.
  16. Are you talking about that annoying skidding sounds that started when you drove the hunter and stopped when you got out.... (ie the most annoying sound in the game. )

Keeping Alpha as a steam gift

the dead horse states that you are not paying for alpha you are merely PREORDERING the full game and being granted alpha access depending on which version you purchased.
  18. This thread is nice and all, however did everyone that had something bad to say make sure to also make sure to post on the http://feedback.arma3.com tracker? I would hate for all this good information to just be wasted on a forum post when there is a method setup to gather information about the "bad" and "ugly" I dont have anything else to add because everything i would have said has already been.
  19. I can't tell if your trolling or being serious. These types of threads are just end up as flame bait, There is no way for people with different hardware to just suggest what others should do, You can post when your specs are and what results you get but beyond that you can't really give any more advice as to specific hardware you dont own. just because Arma 3 runs faster on X does not mean that Y is slower, if we put everyone on ram drives and the issue is disk access that kinda throws results out of the window regardless of what C or G PU you have. What if the issue is the guy that has low FPS is running arma 3 on the same hard drive as windows, it has 8mb of cache and is 5400rpm drive, what good would telling that dude his CPU is junk if the issue is clearly he needs to upgrade his hard drive. The rumor mill was telling me that it was Intel and nvidia that ran like crap. Also as to how much ram one has, more is always better even if you don't need it. (especially if you beta test software that is prone to memory leaks.) What each person needs to do when they think they need to upgrade is first reformat their system, possibly even upgrade their hard drive to something with less miles on it maybe of the solid state variety and then come back and see if the problem persists.
  20. Can we diffuse the light so it doesn't look like a giant star when we put them inside of buildings? I typically hate night because of how fake the lights look when we add a light to a building. We need a way to add ambient light with out adding the light ball to the scene.

Tech wise (arma3 vs other huge map games)

Just Cause 2 used the Avalanche Engine ver 2.0 which has no multiplayer support built into it, there is a mod that adds it in but the game was designed to be a single player. You can simulate anything single player when you dont have to deal with simulations, physx and syncing data. Engine wise you can either have high performance with allot of objects but you need to lower details for those, the more the objects become unique the less of them you can have with out making some cuts some where else. I have a feeling we wont be seeing the 5 hour long 100 player missions that you could have in arma 2, the engine feels sluggish at 45 players, that's with standard death match style missions that don't have many variables.
  22. sounds like your using eliteness which does that, just use pbo manager or something else.

    ArmA2Net and ArmA2MySQL

MSO is based more off of the PersistantDB which also requires Arma2Net and Arma2MySQL

None can connect to my Mission

You shouldn't make multiple posts for the same thread linking back to that thread, you should ask a mod to move your post. if no one answered its most likely because no one knows the answer or has not experienced it or you did not explain it well enough. If your mission doesn't even launch then trouble shoot the init.sqf and description.ext file since thats like 90% of the startup right here.

Devs, please move the Briefing Screen!

Honestly this sounds more like a feature request, why would you want to remove something when others might be using it as intended. Most of the time your expected to have a full load out, IE a mission requiring 8 men shouldn't start with 7, the mission maker should be able to force you to wait until the team is full. TBH the best solution would be to add a pre-briefing screen that is available so that you can choose to show the players something before the mission starts. you need to go to the feedback tracker to suggest that.
