  1. I'm trying to figure out if my mission code is causing this or if it's an issue in the game. Everything is fine for a bout 10 minutes or so, then the game randomly freezes and becomes unresponsive. I have to ctrl alt delete to get to my task manager and shut it down. Believe it or not, I do have another version in the works though. I've been pecking at it slowly, but I have an absolutely great version worked up that has bases and everything in it.     I tried to make a couple of a2 layouts, but there seem to be commands in the code that are not found in a2. The answer is unfortunately no. I really would have liked to have a2 free compatibility too. Cheers :D

    Here is a 3 mission sample featuring the implementation of the base code. Now, when I say bases, I do not mean I constructed bases on the map or anything to that effect. I have a code implementation that allows me to predetermine select zones that would be considered base zones, in reality they're just spawn points. If you have bases enabled, these will be the only zones on the map that will allow spawns so it's important for your team to maintain control of at least one of these zones. The bases will be the only zones to get defensive squads also so they will be more difficult than ordinary zones to capture. The map layouts in this download are for demonstration purposes only as the new system requires a bit of tweaking and I will probably have to create some layouts specifically for base layouts, but this will give you a good idea of how it works. Of course you can change this in the parameters and customize it to suit the experience you want.     What ArmA 3 is missing

    It certainly isn't ideal, but it's manageable. If you know how approach it you can make a 64 entity limit feel like a pretty good sized battle. Try Squad Level Tactics or This is War to get a feel for what I'm talking about. The name was the worst thing CM could have done IMHO. It's certainly not a flashpoint game, but still a great game in its own rite.

    It can be completely played single player, but you must load it on a local host through the mp interface. You can play alone and depending on the way you set the params it can be taylored for 3 - way tvt, 2 - way tv or cooperative play. There are alot of params you can use to make the experience your own. Give it a try. If this is the same Kommiekat from the moddb bf2 boards, you'll love this!! Cheers
  16. I think the most noteable thing is the super slow reaction time of the ai. I run my test server on a pretty old machine so it can't quite keep up the way it should most of the time and other than aircraft seeming to have inconsistent speeds and the occasional oddity (ai walking through walls as you mentioned), the most obvious sign that the server is overloaded is the oblivious ai. Sometimes it's so bad you can literally walk right up to them and look in their eyes before you leisurely pull the trigger and blow them away.

    Hi all. Just wanted to post a quick update. After much consideration regarding bases and spawning occurring only at bases, I've come up with a solution that I could integrate right into the existing framework. I'm currently in testing and finalizing the implementation of base zones that will serve as the only possible spawn points in the game. I've come up with a way to make several key zones that can also become spawn points when controlled by your team. These can serve as areas to bring important assets into the game as well, such as certain points for helicopters and planes. This whole concept was proposed by forum members, but I didn't want to do it willy-nilly. This is going to integrate seamlessly into the same Urban Conquest gameplay that many of you have come to enjoy so don't worry, the mechanics and general feel of the missions will not change at all. You will be able to select whether or not to use the bases in the params so you can have the best of both worlds in each and every mission. As the full implementation comes to a head I'll post a test mission or two for you to try to break it before I release a full version of the new code. Cheers :D
  18. Just curious if anyone else running the dev branch has had horrendous stuttering since the sound overhaul? The game was running perfectly smooth before that and I've seen no other performance loss in any other game I've got on my system, including arma 2. I've also noticed that no one else seems to have commented on any issues like this so I'm curious to know if I should start looking at my installation or is this something that is effecting everyone?     Beginners missions ?

    You can give Urban Conquest a try. It's a pretty good mission for high intensity battle that will help you cut your teeth on learning the shooting/movement mechanics and it gives you a pretty good feel for the best way to pop in and out of cover effectively. It's also got a pretty no hassle recruiting system so you can practice ordering a squad around in the middle of a fierce firefight. Cheers :D

    I've been slowly pecking away at the Arma 2 version of UC as I tinker with the A3 version. This is basically everything that I've done in A3 made to work with full assets in Arma 2. In it's current state I think playing this in A2 is more fun tbh, that's subject to change when we see a more complete version of A3, but here is a nice little release candidate with a few map layouts. I have a pretty good time kicking around in these. If there are any errors in a specific layout with regards to the default parameters you may have to get in there and make adjustments. I just copy pasted some stuff so I could have some additional maps to upload.     As stated in the OP, the code for resistance units has been disabled to prevent problems from occurring and lower the script usage. I'll enable the resistance scripts in the next release.
  22. Man, this thread is a downright depressing thread to read. Thus far the alpha, with few enough ai is just this side of the playable line. I'm trying to stay positive by maintaining the notion that there are some optimizations in the future that will make it run better, and I've already seen some. I have to admit though, reading through this conversation has made my hope dwindle a bit. I honestly thought a 965 black @ 4ghz with a radeon 6950 would be more than enough to run this game pretty smoothly, since it runs every other game I've ever tried maxed out. Now all the sudden I'm starting to worry. I hope there's some light at the end of this tunnel, because the way it's shaping up it's going to cost $500 + just to get my rig up to snuff to really be able to play this. What a bummer :( Call it whining or whatever you want, I just want to be able to enjoy this awesome game without cleaning out my bank account.

    There should be no problems with either branch to the best of my knowlege. I run dev branch personally, but past the 0.52 stable branch there are no known incompatbilities for UC.
