Operation Arrowhead: The questions and answers thread
spooky lynx replied to W0lle's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Nothing else to do? Had ArmA2 only few little bugs in the time of release? No. Had ArmA2 totally new models? No, many of them were ported from ArmA1 wothout serious changes (even with some sounds). I suppose that was done because of shortage of time. So, I don't believe that devs had nothing to do with vanilla ArmA2 before the release. Or they hadn't tested it at all. I'm not against this expansion, but I doubt that now BIS, rather small company, has enough abilities to successfully update and support both projects. ArmA1 shows this perfectly. -

Looking at ArmA1 we all saw, how they worked... BIS suffers? From what? Thousands of people, who hoped to get the reincarnation of Flashpoint, spent their money on another beta. And after this even praised the developers for houndreds of times. So, devs have their stable income no matter they release, what's the problem? Here is the key words: a small company. So, this is the major reason why so many people again and again worry that after all we'll get both game and expansion unfinished. IMHO. Ans as for bugs... They were described thousands of time, but... OFP, ArmA1, now ArmA2... Again old good bugs and limitations. -

Still I hope that after some time I'll get the whole Chernarus to have aircarfts larger than choppers, Harrier, Su-25 and Osprey really useful. The same goes to artillery. -
Your questions to the Devs regarding the expansion
spooky lynx replied to I.like.Pwnies's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
My five cents are: -will the future patches/expansions include other parts of Chernarus? -will OA include serious engine changes: ex. armor hit system, flares/ECM? -if the "west" side will be represented by US Army, what it would be: "stryker" brigades or some infantry divisions on Bradleys/M113? -
Questions about real Vikhr missile guidance
spooky lynx replied to mandoble's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
In anti-aircraft "mode" Vikhr can be fitted with HE-Frag warhead and proximity fuse. Its speed is about 610 m/s, so even with laser-guide system missile hits the target in some seconds. -

So the time will show, will Operation Arrowhead be real expansion or just dozen new units and island for the price compared with original game:) -
Only 2 "Mavericks" on Hog can make this plane adequate enemy but not "killing machine" because in this game it's too easy to operate AGMs. One shot means 100% total destruction of any target no matter of its armor and speed/moves. And when the guided bombs are used, there is some chance to move away.

Why is OFP campaign so good and arma2 so bad ???
spooky lynx replied to jctrnacty's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
IMO SP campaign and missions in ArmA2 are just for demonstration of renewed game engine and its new abilities and features. That's why campaign is so short, and there are few SP missions. Sad thing for those who don't like or can't play MP. -

BTW, ACE team consists of people but not robots:) But they did not sell the results of their hard work. Though ACE mod and islands pack for ArmA1 was IMO much more significant and added more new stuff to vanilla game than Queen's Gambit. So I don't see any reasons against this expansion to be free. -
Practically all Blackhwaks, Mi-8 and Mi-24 are equipped with IR-jamming systems and RWR/IRWR systems, so crew can be warned about missile launch. It's possible. Helicopter pilots in Afghanistan and Chechnya did it, and not only once. It was modelled even in OFP:) By BAS team. And in ArmA1 by RKSL team. So I don't understand why there is no already developed twice flares and countermeasures in ArmA2. The whole AA system in ArmA2 now is at vanilla OFP level.

ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread
spooky lynx replied to Tonci87's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Really? Looking at ArmA1, I doubt in this much. Also I doubt that new landscape will be larger than existing part of Chernarus, so there would be again almost no place for something bigger than Harrier, Su-25, Mi-8 and Blackhawk. And artillery battery, placed somewhere on the coast, will cover all entire territory. -
OFP was totally new at that moment. And lots of people bought it just to test some new game. Yes, millions of copies were sold, but about half of the customers (maybe even more) found that it's not some kind of Counter-Strike:)
-
I think, the main and first reason is the genre - ArmA2 isn't one of the countless first-person shooters, but almost simulator. Such games aren't played widely. At second, BIS hadn't released demo version for testing, and, friendly speaking, german customers became beta testers in fact. But they tested not free, but paid beta, which was named "version 1.0". The same thing was with ArmA1 and east-european customers. The game (AA1) I bought just couldn't be named "full release version", only some kind of beta:( All this affected ArmA1/2 sales. And at third, game engine is again refreshed and repainted, but OFP one, just with another new features. Even large amount of models were transfered to ArmA2 from ArmA1 without noticeable changes. People expect to see brand new game, but not refurbished old one with some bugs remaining from 8 years old OFP. P.S. One little hint: need more money? Start selling the whole VBS2 package for the price of ArmA1:)

One example: there is no either enough flying space or suitable airstrips for operating C-130s and most of jets. Agree. Half-Life 2 episode 1 was released after original game became totally polished. -

Maybe some trials in combat?:) I don't understand other thing: why there is A-10 included in the game. -

On the one hand, it is nice to have another "theater of war" and some more units. But on the other hand personally me would prefer to get the whole Chernarus in such expansion pack, to have complete large country in game but not a couple of different "islands". And, what's more important, it is better to focus at polishing already released game. Still there are a lot of things to correct in ArmA2. -

USSRsniper, I mean it was always mentioned that this or that model is a port but not the one made from scratch by those guys:) -

We've started to produce our own Yak-130 trainer:) Port itself is a work. At least a lot of ports from OFP to ArmA1 or ArmA2 (even with little changes) are named here as "great work", "nice", "good stuff" etc (no matter of their quality), just because people who made them spent their time on it. So why not to praise some other ports the same way? Especially if this ports become good addons. BTW, I remember exactly, that SARMAT's architecture pack readme states that part of it is port from "Stalker" game. -

Found some weird thing: when I start the game as tank commander and switch to gunner's position, after taking some dammage AI player is bailed out from tank (from commander's place) and then doesn't move. Also he can't engage any target. -
Speaking about handheld Minigun, it's weight and recoil aren't a problem for T800, but there should be properly modelled ammo box with belt and battery for MG engine (some kind of backpack containing both?).

RHS Presents Kenjis T-80 Pack v.0.9

A little request: if other versions will be released, it would be nice to remove additional fuel tanks from T-80A and make random parts of equipment customisable by player. -

Hmm... is it possible to switch wound effects off? They are just make the game (not MP) finished when the player gets rather serious wound. If it happened while being armor crew, AI won't take you away from damaged tank, and you'll just die soon as you can't fire and the enemy will sell the final round to your tank or APC. While being infantry, the situation is the same - medic won't heal you quickly and you'll just lie on the ground and bleed because your AI teammates won't drag you to the hospital or to the nearest to the AI medic location (if he's still alive). -
So is there no ability to add just a couple of soldiers in cargo by some scripts (not exactly commander and loader, but some kind of passangers just for "realistic look")? Like that on BMD-1.
