I believe since 1.9.6 or 1.9.7 or so, 3D local voice has been funky for me. It almost sounds as if the voices are coming from the center channel as well as the correct direction. Hard to explain, but before the latest update(s) it worked perfectly, so I'm not sure what changed.

JSRS: DragonFyre -- WIP Thread
MavericK96 replied to LordJarhead's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
So given that MANW was pushed back, does that mean the release will be pushed back as well, or will we have an early Xmas present? ;) -
Not sure if this is related to the -enableHT command or not, but I am seeing activity only on every other core...i.e. Core 0, Core 2, Core 4, etc. Kind of odd. Will have to test without that command enabled and see if that makes any difference.

I just upgraded my rig to: i7 4790K @ 4.7 GHz 16 GB DDR3-2400 GTX 970 OCed ...and performance is better than my old rig, but not amazing. Most of the time I can maintain 40 FPS in MP, which is better than before, but that still leaves a fair amount to be desired. I still get massive drops when enabling PiP or having the view distance beyond 3000 or so.

Mouse Input = drop to 10-15 FPS?
MavericK96 replied to MavericK96's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thanks for the reply. I do use a Logitech mouse with a high poll rate, but I haven't actually changed that since before ArmA 3 was even in Alpha, so I don't think that's the issue here. It only started happening after the 1.32 patch. Also, it isn't just stuttering as if there is low FPS, it actually causes real low FPS. Like if I go into the Video menu, I can see I'm getting 60 FPS or so (in an ideal scenario). Once the issue occurs, if I start moving around the mouse, even just in the menu, my framerate will rapidly drop into the 15-20 FPS range. I stop moving the mouse and it goes back up to 60. In game what this means is if I'm standing still, everything seems fine, but when I start moving/looking around, it becomes unplayable. Restarting the game fixes the problem (for a time), so it's clearly something to do with the game since no other games exhibit this behavior. -
Hello all, After the latest ArmA 3 stable update, I am now seeing behavior where after a decent amount of time (30-45 minutes) my game will start lagging/stuttering horribly in MP. I have noticed that it only seems to drop in framerate if I move around my mouse, so something about mouse input is causing massive drops (down to 10-15 FPS). I can even see this in the Video menu when I move the mouse versus not moving it (start moving mouse and drops to 10-15 FPS, stop moving it and jumps back up to normal). Restarting the game fixed the issue for the remainder of the mission. Anyone else see this behavior? I do use mods but none have really updated since the new patch, and I never experienced this behavior before with the same mod set.

Mouse Input = drop to 10-15 FPS?
MavericK96 replied to MavericK96's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
No one else has this problem? Still affecting my gameplay. It seems that using keyboard or mouse input causes the stutter/lag, but not using TrackIR for some reason. -
Thank goodness, that was super annoying.

Fatigue Feedback (dev branch)

Sprint? Probably not. Jog? Absolutely. Many missions require that you jog hundreds of meters, and if you're under fire you can end up in the middle of a field with no hard cover around you for hundreds of meters as well.- 1935 replies

So given that RAM speed seems to make a difference for ArmA 3, has anyone upgraded to Haswell-E and tried DDR4 yet? I'm curious if it makes a significant difference.
-
It's what I said above: more clock speed = faster in ArmA 3. It doesn't matter if you have the latest and greatest, if you are running at 3.5 GHz or so, an older processor running at 4 GHz+ is still likely going to be faster in ArmA 3. So it all comes down to how well you can overclock, or just buy the processor with the fastest stock speeds (looks like the 4790K is pretty good).
-
That chart basically just shows that more clock speed = faster in ArmA 3.
-
I would guess if you can get a 2600K or something newer up to 5 GHz, that'd probably be the best for ArmA right now. Raw clock speed seems to be everything for this game.
-
That may be, but it's still marketed as an "extreme" processor which means it's targeted toward a good amount of the hardware enthusiast community. In any case, a newer architecture, 8-core CPU should definitely be able to run things faster...however with ArmA we see that's not the case. Even the 5930K version is worse than the previous generation of CPUs in ArmA 3.
-
Jesus, that is really sad. As others have mentioned, it's likely due to the fact that the game barely supports multithreading, and raw clock speed is always going to win out. It's never been more apparent than in that benchmark.

Advanced Helicopter FDM Feedback
MavericK96 replied to aluc4rd's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
Even in that video there is some weird behavior with the helicopter exploding after barely hitting an object. This is something that desperately needs to be changed. If you are not an ace pilot you can will touch down just a tiny bit too hard and cause, at a minimum, the helicopter to become completely unusable, and at worst a massive explosion that kills everyone inside. -
Community interest in User Made Missions?
MavericK96 replied to StrongHarm's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Yeah, I have to agree. It's great for an end-user playing local missions, but for putting them up on a dedicated server it's a huge hassle. If it didn't put the missions in such a weird place (somewhere buried in the Steam folder) it wouldn't be so bad. -

Sooo what would that even mean? All you play is the SP campaign or the 3 base MP missions? -

I'm all for inertia/realism as long as it doesn't make the movement feel clunky, as it did in ArmA 2.- 1935 replies

Honestly, I think the days of driver updates massively improving performance are long gone. Barring, of course, some horrible bug in the driver that causes abnormally low performance on release of a certain title.
-
Great, thanks for the update. I assume this pushes out the release a week or two?
