    AI Discussion (dev branch)

Depends on the type of chopper. Soviet era doctrine for attack choppers is high speed slashing attacks. Most opfor choppers will follow this doctrine. The only time a chopper should hover is behind cover for a stand off attack. If they are using guns and rockets then speed is life as you have noted.

I accept why mod makers with original IP are wary of SWS even though I believe that Valve wouldn't take their IP. But now we have people who create scripts for other people to use in missions now demanding missions be taken down because they don't want their scripts on SWS. I will respect it in as in much not upload missions against their wishes, but I can hold the opinion that its childish and counter productive to the community.

Wonderful. The community is going to destroy itself over nothing.

When are unit icons revealed on the map?

Also the AI doesn't distinguish between seeing an enemy or hearing it. They often hear vehicles in the distance, call it out and an icon appears on the map, but that icon is only a guess of where it is. It's kinda confusing.

    Question towards development branch

Wouldn't it be easier to have your stable directory and Dev Branch directory and create a symbolic link to which one you want to use? This way don't have to copy and paste multi gb of data.

    Suppression Effect missing in ARMA3

Why force fatigue? I'm a highly trained marathon runner and I won't get tired. The game is limiting my freedom to play. My idea of suppression effect would to be model the tunneling of vision and audio exclution that people do experience in a high stress situation. A single round wouldn't cause it, but as the intensity and proximity of rounds increase, so does the effect.
  7. I think your system idea has some merit. Also if guns had weight and center of gravity that would effect inertia. That way a small SMG or carbine you could 'throw' around the screen a lot easier, while a long sniper rifle or LMG witha lot more weight would take more effort to start moving or stop their inertia. This could help reflect the controlabilty of different classes of firearms.

How? All 5 senses. You experience it. What the hell are you talking about birds? What's with the mocking tone in all your posts?

    Suppression Effect missing in ARMA3

From the environment around them. Sitting behind a monitor doesn't illicit the same physiological response. We have no way of feeling fatigued, feeling pain, feeling stress, hell there's no real feedback into what position our body is in. So we add other elements to the game to convey and mimic these things to the player. Being suppressed is one of these things.

Exactly, you model the physiological reaction to a high stress situation when receiving heavy fire on your position.

Wait, what? Now you're saying it's a cheat because someone may not know they are being fired at?

People in high stress situatuions don't experience audio and visual execution?

Fleeing and surrendering are different things. If fleeing they should be running away from contact as hard as they can until they feel safe.

    Suppression Effect missing in ARMA3

I don't think a random close round should have any effect on you, the sonic crack out of the blue with good headphones/speaker can make suprise you in its own. I do think there should be a suppressed effect if steady rounds are hitting very close to you. As I stated before I don't think aiming mechanics should not be effected, but a slight visual tunnel effect around the edge of the screen, much like the very start of a blackout in a flight sim and the deadening of audio effects would be a good indication you are suppressed. Much like auditory and visual exclusion that happens in real life during high stress events. You can still aim fine, but have less peripheral vision as people in high stress situations do tend to focus on the threat only. Auditory exclusion is also prevalent in high stress.

    Suppression Effect missing in ARMA3

So if rounds are close by and you have a fear for life response here would be no adrenaline response, no narrowing of vision as you focus, no auditory exslusion? You would be calm, cool as a cucumber? i wouldn't want an arbitrary dispersion of rounds, but to blur peripheral vision as a 'penalty' isn't to over the top. You still have focus at the center, still able to put accurate rounds down range, you simply have an auditory and periphal vision penalty.

No worries. I'm acceding in this discussion as I believe we all have valid points from our own POV and continuing wont accomplishing anything.

Also have it more of a tunnel effect. Near the center less saturation so the target you Re focused on is still visible, but the tunnel vision makes it harder to pick up other targets on your periphery, much like the tunnel vision that comes from an adrenalin dump. Also some auditory exclusion would help with the effect. All sound effects get muffled, again causing you to be less able to pick up auditory cues from different sources. You are focused in on the center of your screen, but lose overall sensory information.

    Trigger follow through

I like this idea. Rewards steady shooting, you have to get the rhythm for smooth follow up shots.

It sort of boils down to the old 'prove God exists' vs 'prove God doesn't exsit' argument. Most people say you have to prove God's existence vs non-existence.

    BI games for PS4?

I think the PS4 and new Xbox will be good for PC gaming. One of the major issues with pc games is the lack of real multi-core support. To tap into the power of the next gen consoles you will need to fully exploit the cores. This will translate into better CPU usage on the PC front.

i would argue its no more repetitive than the other side, but I agree we are arguing around a circle now. I'm a community member discussing a issue that has come up in the community. I'm not going into a modder's forum and telling them how to act.

I get that and I wouldn't ask you to so anything your not comfortable with. What I don't get, not necessarily from you, is the hostility from people asking them to discuss why they feel Valve wishes to exploit mod makers. I look at the EULA and I see a catch-all document to cover the whole SWS and all the different games that use it. You work with lawyers, would you pay them to endlessly write documents for all of your products and all the possibilities out there, or request a single document to cover all eventualities, real or imagined. I look at Valve and I ask myself what they would gain from taking assets from a mod for a product and I can't see it. What I see as a much more likely possibility is that they want to expand their product range. Arma 3 mods are a niche market, but what if they could expand SWS to current or next gen consoles to download content for games. I garantee they have looked if the thy could share mods for Skyrim cross platform. Now if you created a Skyrim mod and uploaded to SWS and they make it available for a console they would need to protect themselves from you claiming they modified it to work on a console. Or demand a cut from Microsoft for making it available on Xbox live, a subscription service. i think that's the lawyer world they live in and are trying to protect themselves from, not looking at this as an opportunity to take some free assets uploaded to them. ---------- Post added at 11:36 ---------- Previous post was at 11:35 ---------- I have no problem discussing my thoughts and ideas and how they are lacking reason or whatever, but if you want to do a drive by trolling expect me to respond at your level.
