    ArmA II release date discussion thread

    I went to saturn and our gamestop here in magdeburg, germany. The woman at saturn looked into their system with ArmA 2 dated at 29th May for 44€ But there was also the special edition dated on the 29th...but red which means "not able to request". At gamestop there is also ArmA 2 but for 49,99€. My plan was to buy it at 9 AM but i recently took a look at my calendar and no: there is a appointed time at my doc and this could take a while :( But i don't bother BIS releasing the 505 version as a patched version. We should appreciate their work using beta testers eliminating the bugs and then constantly making the game perfect :)

    i think it is procedural so joining a server won't make you loading any generated terrain. I think it will be the same algorithm on every pc...so restarting the game and you will find the same mountains in lala-land. I am only a mechanical engineering student but i think there will be a way of large numbers like the constant PI, which is the same every time and place in space-time continuum . Imagine a 2d landscape where 1 is low and 9 is a high mountain. PI is saved to million places and then you will nearly have endless terrain. For a 3d world just put it into a grid with different beginnings of pi... :)

  5. i think a 4850 will be good for arma2. Then just lower the object detail and raise texture quality to maximum :)
  6. Who decides if there is a copy protection like securom? The publisher does decide? -> okay apparently the publisher does And does anybody know where the event of yesterday was? London?-> yeah right i read it right now on armedassault.info :) I appreciate it that BIS grants "community employees" a special look at ArmA 2, that is really exemplary and to appreciate!
  7. Yeah but what about time? If you want to reinstall ArmA 2 past several years the activationserver may be down; or two installations within 1 week? I probably will install arma 2 before i set up my new system and then i will reinstall windows...imagine ofp would have some sort of this activation and it is still played by an amount of gamers. I hope a future patch or something else will disable these gags like Ofp with 1.96 and ArmA with 1.09beta :) Near one week left to german release, i hope we won't need to hotfix everything for good performance at the beginning ;)
  8. I think i read it on twitter, too that you have to activate your ArmA 2 with suc***rom over the internet...This scares me about limited activations and overburdened servers in the few days. I only would appreciate it if this would be an option to use ArmA 2 without dvd once it is activated... but i don't think so :(

    Yeah ArmA 2 gone gold i like it :) I think they will release the pc version patch the last bugs and then release an almost bugfree console version. Are console games able to be patched?

    To me it is quiet logical to put the DC-3 into the game considering the fact that it is already made for QG. And why not just retexture it nice like to the other vehicles? :)
  11. A another thing i will do: Open the editor and try to follow the road in the north-west into the nirvana... :) Im really interested how the terrain generator acts.

    Mmh summing the situation up, morphicon still says may 2009. But this non existent update could be cause in there update politics...look, these old screenshots :D But BIS has already more things finished/working on as the preview alpha had included.. could run short... :bored:

    Wii head-tracking

    I really like to build my own things and to see them working, like some other said. And in ArmA it is really immersive. I hope they deliver the interiors of the main battle tanks with an additional patch, because headtracking is really immersive especially in vehicles. Try it yourself lookin throug the M113's different hatches! :) here is my setup: download Despite of the fact of solder the different parts i pierced the end of the cable with a needle and then just put the resistor through and crook it :) It works fine with parallel setting with three 36 Ohm resistors and one PTC fuse to one pole, as my computer insurance :D One other thing of using the lego variant: you can easily unrig your clip :)

    Wii head-tracking

    A way of using the Wii remote with a tft :) With my new 22" tft, which actually stands further away from the wall, i will modify it by 90° like the horizontal-crt version :) Or i will tape it to the wall. Due to this construction the actual viewing angle of the wii is really better. You can see this in on the the video posted above, if you are to near, the wiii won't see every three ir dots. Despite of the fact that im using a wii remote, i even use a 3 point-"lego technic"-construction on myheadset powerd via usb (with ptc) and still my pc is not in hell :D

    I think this fits better to this topic :) Would be nice to see a dynamic viewdistance, which sets itself to maximum out at see. Though i would be happy if the straight face viewdistance could be change to some updside down truncated cone. So the player could earlier see enemy aircrafts while not affecting performance: still you can't see more landscape but definately more less-polygon rendered sky. But i don't know if this is possible... but NeMeSiS refered: This would be ugly to see the top of the mountain flying in the air... So then: " Mmh i thought about it if you see first the top of the mountain and then the rest... so an official engine tweak is needed to display planes and choppers though they are not inside the viewdistance... the skytexture is still infinite far away or? I think the flying vehicles could appear above a ficitonal, approximated line where the top of the mountain is. Even when the mountain is not visible to the player the choppers would fade in..." I think this would be pretty cool
  18. @ Maddog maybe you could use TOR... It is a portable version with firefox portbale so you can anonymously visit every site from the world :) > TOR portable < I am really happy to see some TrackIR ingame footage since arma doesn't support 6dof naturally. It will be pretty useful for vehicle interiors but there is another point... we won't get combat tank interiors, not even for the drivers only :( It would eb so great if you can use your head to look through the different screenmirrors...
  19. Back on topic: Do you guys really believe that ArmA 2 will be shipped in May 2009 like Morphicon is really saying on their website? If this is real, then i think there won't be a 2nd preview version until the release... But i hope everything is going well and we see some official news about our baby

    Hell yeah i am using a wii mote with a self build 3 point usb powered led array :) Works fine but sometimes ArmA seems to get hiccups with some time http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=71837&highlight=hiccup Also i only tried insurgency a few times, but it seems to be only in ArmA and it is only my system. A friend of mine doesn't have this problem... so maybe a clean windows reinstall should help

  23. Yeah i guess gamestar.de don't know that this is an early version of february. They say that there is not enough time left to fix those issues (they date a release at the end of may). But like BIS said, those bugs are already fixed but not implemented these days, so sure they can fix those mistakes until ArmA II is release :) I am optimistic!

  25. @ IGN Preview Good to hear that it should run good on middle rigs :) We have to wait for more reviews with different machines so that we can clearly see what is and what's not possible for the most of us gamers.
