mcarma 19 Posted July 17, 2010 noob here. This is a game where four hands would be advantageous. Wow I have never seen to many keypress assignments before. I am having trouble adjusting the mouse speed. The problem I have is the speed when zoomed seems faster than when not zoomed making aiming difficult. Is there a way to adjust the zoomed and un-zoomed mouse speeds? Also is there a way to use a different color for the reticle? The green is almost impossible for me to see. Plus the reticle is as large when zoomed as when not ... is this normal. Is there a way to zoom faster (it seems really slow)? W7x64, i7 965, gtx480, logitech mx-518 mouse. My puter seems to run this game without any difficulty so far. However I have only been in the trainer and single player missions.
celery 8 Posted July 17, 2010 No way to customize those, and I haven't experienced or noticed a faster mouse speed when zoomed.
Inkompetent 0 Posted July 17, 2010 Only way to change UI colour is by addons. I don't know their names however, but they do exist (search on Armed-Assault.info or Armaholic.com or some other such place and you should find it. At least for ArmA2. Dunno if anything has been released for OA). I can't say I've experienced a difference in movement speed on the mouse either when zooming in and I too use a MX518, but have you tried to play with different DPI-settings on the mouse? Might be that too high or low settings weird out when zoomed? As for keybinds - yes, it is a bit clunky when thinking of the actual command interface that might need a lot of button action, meaning you have to stop to issue commands. Most other things are easily reachable though. Action menu on the mouse, other keys on V, F, R, Z, X, C, Shift and Ctrl. If you want to reduce the amount of keys you have to use, think of that you can use modifiers in the game, like Shift+M for minimap, or double-tap keybinds like double-tapping Ctrl to switch stance between 'safe' and 'high ready' (to mention some defaults). That way most stuff that you use frequently can be moved to be within easy reach.
-=seany=- 5 Posted July 17, 2010 Also is there a way to use a different color for the reticle? The green is almost impossible for me to see. Plus the reticle is as large when zoomed as when not ... is this normal. I never understood this either. Its like "you can have a HUD but your not allowed to see it properly". On Chernarus it was a nightmare. The main thing I always would loose was the user marker Icon. Bright yellow or red would be nice options.
mcarma 19 Posted July 17, 2010 Another question ... the Command Menu. I can use the Space bar to show it and use the wheel to move up and down to highlight a Command, BUT I can't activate it. The mouse won't do it so which keypress is supposed to activate the command?

mcarma 19 Posted July 17, 2010 here's a stupid question ... what is the difference between the two command verbages 'use default action' and 'use selected action'?
frederf 0 Posted July 17, 2010 If you walk up to a car and the little steering wheel icon comes up, that's the default action. The action menu might actually have 2+ items in it but there's only one default action in a list. When you open the list and select one of the options, that's the "selected action." xxbbcc 6 Posted July 18, 2010 (edited) Also, expect a relatively steep learning curve with this game (compared to other games) if you're new to the series. It took me 40+ hours of playtime back with Operation Flashpoint to configure my keys to how I like them and A2:OA has many more shortcuts. Spend some time to reconfigure your keys to what's easy to use for you and then make a backup copy of your profile. Welcome, btw. As for the green reticle, look for Kju's PROPER addons in the MODS COMPLETE forum. He has an addon that changes the reticle to white. It's much more visible than the green. frederf 0 Posted July 18, 2010 (edited) Here's a post where I tried to cover pretty much every key in the list along with how I like to bind and a fair bit of "vet knowledge." EDIT: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=102302 (Whoops forgot to put in the link >.<) Edited July 18, 2010 by Frederf
xALIENAx 10 Posted July 18, 2010 There are many things you can do about this but heres some things ive done to improve my game over the years ive been playing on PC: 1. Invest in a good Gaming KB. They now come with aditonal "shift-state" keys for ~ thru + which helps with not having to hold Shift+ to get and extra row there. 2. I could not live without my 8-button gaming mouse, it realy helps alot. i've tied all my quick togles for aircraft to it (Flaps, gear, Lock, weapon, manual fire) 3. Play with your settings and see whats comfortable for you. ive devided my KB into 3 sections: core movements, suport/com/interactions, and specials along the top (lockon, switch views, switch vehicle weapons, etc)
