Muzza 0 Posted July 9, 2010 Guys, got OA this morning. Should I play the campaign? Or wait it out until it is polished. 'Red Harvest was ruined for me by my 3rd playthrough of 'razor two', all in all i wished I had just waited until the missions became possible. Is OA playable? Kristian 47 Posted July 9, 2010 I beat it... I guess that makes it playable :D
Montanaro 0 Posted July 9, 2010 naw, it's quite underwhelming. I only played it to polish my game since I haven't played ARMA1 in forever.
santafee 10 Posted July 9, 2010 you can play through it, but like allways[since OPF], dont expect too much... also somehow the performance was mostly horrible for me. i dont got that if i set up bigger missions or play them bymyself, same with usermade stuff. instagoat 133 Posted July 9, 2010 I liked it, and I´m up to mission 7 now. Replayabillity is there, and it´s a nice proof of concept with all the stuff that is going on, but I think it´s way too short for all its features to really shine. Good things: Nice performance (given size of the missions in terms of how many Units are operating at any time), no bugs, sometimes I experienced script-lag but that´s a known bug, but no gamebreakers at all even when commanding the AI. Mission diversity is good, even if its only six missions in total (the first one really just is a cutscene), but its not quite up to Resistance standards. The other SP missions are cool, but seem to be extraordinarily easy. For the campaign, again, its a nice concept, it´s got a cool precept and lots of meta-stuff going on (why are the allied forces there, officially and unofficially), and there´s a lot of things that can happen or not happen depending on how you play the missions. But overall, despite replayabillity I maintain that it´s too short. Cheers Insta
wamingo 1 Posted July 9, 2010 I've not experienced any gamestopping or terrible bugs. A few notes maybe: AI was moving very slow on the first mission so I basicly solo'ed the last area. Apache AI gunner consistently shoots short of the targets with cannon when beyond a few hundred meters. Maybe he's not adjusting for bullet drop? Low fps in zarbagad here and there, mostly near the mosque. And yeah, a bit too short. Which is really a compliment as well.
andromedagalaxe 10 Posted July 9, 2010 I loved the first mission and the armored column mission. The rest were ... meh
frederf 0 Posted July 10, 2010 Missions suffer a lot from being very hand-holdy and the freedom comes in tiny sugar packets. You spend a lot of time listening to the radio and being micromanaged instead of being a trusted NCO/O in the US military. There's some realism and voice acting immersion breaks but not too bad. Several of the missions are also severely forgone that you will complete them handily, like an interactive cut scene of M1 Abrams vs T-55 horde.
EDcase 87 Posted July 10, 2010 (edited) Those who say its easy... are you playing on Veteran ????? ;) Set enemy skill to 1 and friendly on 0.6 then tell me whe you complete it :P :D Basically Muzza, yes its playable (sometimes AI have problems but not as bad as HarvestRed) Of course its not the highlight of playing ARMA or OA Edited July 10, 2010 by EDcase
shataan 1 Posted July 10, 2010 Compared to ARMA and ARMA 2s campaign, OA is awesome. Reminds me of..... Flashpoint. I really like the campaign so far.

I literally had to kill most of the troops myself to save my stupid team.
Zaytsev 10 Posted July 10, 2010 I found the campaign to be boring and brief. Played it with my friend. We decided not to play through it again because it was so underwhelming. I was hoping after the great mini campaign eagle wing the missions would from there on out be just as well designed and awesome. I also thought the A2 original campaign could have been great if it weren't for the severe amount of issues with it. I'd like to see more story focused missions/mini campaigns in the future from BIS. Hopefully with the dlc they are going to do we will see some of those kind of offerings.

EBass 0 Posted July 10, 2010 Considering how well CwC is rememered I'm perpetually surprised that there hasn't been a real attempt made to convert it to Arma2. I mean the editor and scripting language is still essentially the same right? And the voices files are presumably all there somewhere, should just be a case of finding new map positions that make sense gameplay wise.
