Arksa 10 Posted July 6, 2010 (edited) I can run 110 fps on armory (ok the map is empty but still pretty good graph settings on)... ...and when I get to a CTI warfare server online the fps can't go over 30 no matter what. Can anyone explain this? Devs? Anyone? Please? I really like to play but 30- fps in online games is terrible, when I can play single player on 85 fps average. Using 64 bit vista with ATI Radeon HD 5850, 3,5 ghz intel core 2 duo. EDIT: ok the fps is quite solid 24-30 which is playable when it doesn't drop below but I could easily double that if it weren't for the darn magical limit... Steakslim 1 Posted July 6, 2010 Might be something with Vista. I had the same issue with Vista 32bit in ArmA2, No matter how high or low you set the game's settings or your video card's settings, the fps would go no higher than 30fps. Switched to Windows 7 RC1, saw fps from 35 to 60 (with v-sync), never went back. Honestly I do not know if it is a Vista specific issue but what ever it was it went away when I stopped using it. rory_pamphilon 16 Posted July 6, 2010 I think your problem is down to the online game mode you chose.. Warfare mode has always been very taxing on the CPU, especially a game that has been running for a few hours. I have a Q6600 quad core @ 3ghz and my warfare games run slowly after the battle starts for real. Turning graphics down helps a little but it's definately a CPU limited game when in warfare mode. Get a new quad core running at atleast 3.0ghz if you want warfare to be smooth.
runforrest 10 Posted July 6, 2010 afaik the limiting factor is the server. when the server cant support enough power for the mission, u wont get more fps, no matter how good ur system is. this especially is in missions like domination, warfare and evolution etc... u can easily see that when u look straight up in the sky. in normal coop missions ur fps will go at least to 60 or more (depended or ur screen, 3d resolution and vsync on or off). in perforamnce consuming missions the fps will also be limited around aprox. 35 fps when u look in the sky... Alex72 0 Posted July 6, 2010 Ive heard the same thing many many times about ARMA2 but i never noticed the 30FPS limit when im MP. So i have no proper answer to this one.
Dwarden 1103 Posted July 6, 2010 if memory serves me right the server fps cap is ~50 fps not more nor less ...
=wfl= sgt bilko 10 Posted July 6, 2010 Server "fps" is probably maxed at 50, I've never seen it go higher. But I'd guess that the relationship between server net update, client prediction and client waitstate might limit it down on clients in mp.
rory_pamphilon 16 Posted July 7, 2010 Unless I'm very much mistaken there is no relationship between server fps & client fps. If the server CPU is struggling u may see slight jitter in the movements of AI units but it won't effect client fps. If your fps in editor and singleplayer is ok yet slow in multiplayer this is purely down to the extra load on your CPU from a complex multiplayer game. =wfl= sgt bilko 10 Posted July 7, 2010 If there's differences between a complex scene in editor and equally complex scene in multiplayer it must be down to something else than CPU load on client. Only BIS have the answer, I guess.
-=seany=- 5 Posted July 8, 2010 I have found that Servers do, for some reason, dictate clients FPS in both Arma2 and now OA. For example I can play Domination on the 7cav server and FPS are really bad (22fps avg). But playing on the 506th (>30fps avg) is much better. The main thing I don't understand is why Clients have to calculate everything in the mission (AI etc) that the server does.
Arksa 10 Posted July 8, 2010 Found some warfare servers where I had 30-70 fps.
whisper 0 Posted July 8, 2010 Found some warfare servers where I had 30-70 fps. Your FPS on client do not relate to FPS as seen on server, which are capped at
Dwarden 1103 Posted July 9, 2010 Your FPS on client do not relate to FPS as seen on server, which are capped at 50 yet very bad server fps ofcourse affects how game perform on client
