pauliesss 2 Posted June 22, 2010 I have one simple question: will it be possible to integrate Arma 2 content into OA later or I will have to reinstall OA to inegrate Arma 2 ?Anyone?
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted June 22, 2010 Anyone? Who are you asking? People from the future who have installed it already? :j:

Big Dawg KS 6 Posted June 22, 2010 Developers ? I saw them reacting in some othe threads...:j: Funny thing about devs. There are days where they do come out of hiding and answer quite a few questions. Most of the time however they just sit in the shadows, watching us... :j:

Baron von Beer 0 Posted June 22, 2010 Arma 2 OR OA? Why have a pizza with one or the other of your favorite toppings, when you can have both?;)

mattxr 9 Posted June 22, 2010 i dont think you will get an option! If you have ArmA II installed Arrowhead will install ontop of that like a mod and intergrade into the mod management and can be switched on and off in there! :)
bushlurker 46 Posted June 23, 2010 I wonder if, to be "complete", they'll include ALL of the original Arma .pbo content? Quite a bit of the buildings and objects are actually in Arma2, hidden away here and there, but if they included the complete set of .pbo's, CAA1 would be reduced to a couple of MB of patch files... I guess that would mean Arrowhead would have to be a 2 disc set though, and I don't think thats the case... B
Zipper5 74 Posted June 23, 2010 OA will definitely not have all of ArmA's content.
bhaz 0 Posted June 23, 2010 For me, it really depends on how many servers and communities switch over to OA, if it turns out I can't join any servers since they're all running missions requiring OA content I guess I'll be forced into it. At the moment I see no reason why ArmA2 isn't good enough stand-alone, with most of OA's announced features already being available in addon form.

At the moment I see no reason why ArmA2 isn't good enough stand-alone, with most of OA's announced features already being available in addon form. Agreed! Why piss away one year of mods and addons to start fresh? I'll get OA eventually, but when will depend on where the community goes -How well will A2 integrate with OA? -How easy will it be to port over adddons? -When and more importantly IF, Bis descides to release tools needed to make OA content. Things like OA's lame "medic" call and possibly even worse AI than A2(due to the addons and mods A2 has) is what's keeping me from this game.
MavericK96 0 Posted June 23, 2010 I'll be using both. To be honest, even if you don't own ArmA2 right now, I see no reason not to get the Combined Operations, since it's only $10 more for both games. I already own ArmA2 and I'm getting it anyway.
Zipper5 74 Posted June 23, 2010 (edited) Why piss away one year of mods and addons to start fresh? I'll get OA eventually, but when will depend on where the community goes... -How easy will it be to port over adddons? It's already been said that porting addons from Arma 2 to OA will only require minor tweaks if any at all. And of course the community is going to be moving to OA. Why would we not move to the bigger and better thing? You can still use Arma 2 content in it, so why be so stubborn? -How well will A2 integrate with OA? Been answered many, many times. Arma 2's vanilla content will integrate as well as it should with OA. -When and more importantly IF, Bis descides to release tools needed to make OA content. Of course BIS will release updated or new tools if the new features involved in OA require it. There hasn't been a game of theirs as of yet which they haven't done so for. Things like OA's lame "medic" call and possibly even worse AI than A2(due to the addons and mods A2 has) is what's keeping me from this game. What? What "lame medic call"? The AI in OA will be similar to the AI in the latest beta patch for Arma 2, and given the fact that already existing AI addons, along with many others, will probably be able to be ported to OA with little modification, means the AI will be just as good. Seriously, you should do more research before you completely write things off and write false statements... At the moment I see no reason why ArmA2 isn't good enough stand-alone, with most of OA's announced features already being available in addon form. No. They aren't. :j: Show me PEQ lasers and FLIR to the standard that OA has. I will be very surprised if you do, because Arma 2's engine cannot support those things. Show me a dynamic town generating module. Show me a working UAV system that allows you to designate targets. Edited June 23, 2010 by Zipper5
Guest Posted June 23, 2010 Arrowhead is going to add so, so, so much compared to standard Arma 2, I can not think of a single reason why people would want to use the standard Arma 2 alone afterwards. For me, I will be using both!
sniper pilot 36 Posted June 23, 2010 -How easy will it be to port over addons? It's already been said that porting addons from Arma 2 to OA will only require minor tweaks if any at all. And of course the community is going to be moving to OA. Why would we not move to the bigger and better thing? You can still use Arma 2 content in it, so why be so stubborn? Thats what they said about how easy it would be to port over OFP addons to ArmA, not going to believe that one again till i see it. And I'll be the decision maker for myself on how well A2 content integrates into OA. And! Im not stubborn, I will still get OA, its just a matter of when. -How well will A2 integrate with OA? Been answered many, many times. Arma 2's vanilla content will integrate as well as it should with OA. As well as it should for you maybe! Like I said above, ill make the decision for my self on that. Im gonna wait for the game to come out before I decide how well it integrates... -When and more importantly IF, Bis descides to release tools needed to make OA content.Of course BIS will release updated or new tools if the new features involved in OA require it. There hasn't been a game of theirs as of yet which they haven't done so for. The issue of DLC comes into mind when thinking about future tools. But Im almost with you on this subject, BIS hasn't disappointed us yet in this regard. What? What "lame medic call"? Watch some of the videos, while not the final version, i can almost guarantee it will still be there. Its like me saying to you in a short-calm voice, "medic". As opposed to the emotion(lol) found in ArmA2's "Mediiiiiic!!" or "I need a medic here". Pfft you get the idea. Now that was just an example of a much bigger problem. The AI in OA will be similar to the AI in the latest beta patch for Arma 2, and given the fact that already existing AI addons, along with many others, will probably be able to be ported to OA with little modification, means the AI will be just as good.Seriously, you should do more research before you completely write things off and write false statements... While I agree with some of the points you've made, I still think you totaly missed the point of me posting. But besides that, I HAVE done my research, its just whether or not I believe the official statements with the possibility of "business as usual" getting in the way, that has me at an edge. Im happy that YOUR already happy with the product before you have even had a chance to touch it! BIS will get my money if thats truly what your worried about. All I came here to say was to put in my 2cents, I never ONCE, NEVER ONCE, said thats how anyone else should feel. :j:
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted June 23, 2010 Thats what they said about how easy it would be to port over OFP addons to ArmA, not going to believe that one again till i see it. And I'll be the decision maker for myself on how well A2 content integrates into OA. First, as I recall, nobody said it would be easy. Everyone was fully aware OFP addons would need a lot of tweaking to get into ArmA. Second, comparing the leap from OFP -> ArmA with ArmA2 -> ArmA2: OA is nonsense. The engine had undergone a huge amount of changes between OFP and ArmA, leaving practically none of the processes of addon making unchanged. Fundimentally, it doesn't seem like the engine has changed enough with OA to make addons incompatable. In fact, ArmA -> ArmA2 was a much bigger change than this will be, and in many cases ArmA addons will still work in ArmA2 with no modification. If anything, the only challenge will be making addons available to users who own OA but don't own ArmA2 as a lot of addons will be inheriting stuff from content in ArmA2 which may not exist in OA. Zipper5 74 Posted June 23, 2010 Thats what they said about how easy it would be to port over OFP addons to ArmA Lol, no they didn't. People want voices to be more monotone so they flow, people want certain phrases to not be monotone to evoke emotion but flow worse... There's no pleasing this community. All I came here to say was to put in my 2cents, I never ONCE, NEVER ONCE, said thats how anyone else should feel. :j: No you didn't, but you don't have to. People new to the games see posts like yours and will automatically assume the worse, even though many of the issues presented have proven to be false or void. hate4uall 10 Posted June 23, 2010 I am new to relatively new to Arma , missed out on the first Arma (but have since bought it) and have now preorderd arrowhead and also looking to buying both games for my other pc so my bro can come to the LAN partys and play why have one when you can have both! S-M 10 Posted June 23, 2010 I asked this a while back but it apears nobody answered, so i will give it another try. I just uninstalled A2, made sure everything was wiped, and bought a new hard drive (just for Arma2 @ the moment) So i have my main 1TB for Windoze 7 64 and a second 500GB drive that i plan to use just for games, both drives are Western Digital Greens. A2 is just about installed onto the second 500GB drive (the only thing that is on it!) Do i need to update it to 1.5 for the new Arrowhead content, or can i leave it vanilla ? ---------- Post added at 04:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:16 PM ---------- Dohh, totally forgot about vanilla needing the pesky "disc in the tray to play", so i will just patch it up to 1.50. sniper pilot 36 Posted June 23, 2010 Lol, no they didn't. Well it was a long time ago, and that's what I remember. Thanks for correcting me, if im truly wrong that is. @Big Dawg KS: I agree its kinda silly of me comparing the transition of A2 to OA to the much bigger transition of OFP to ArmA. People want voices to be more monotone so they flow, people want certain phrases to not be monotone to evoke emotion but flow worse... There's no pleasing this community. And yes im not pleased enough to get OA from day one. Its hilarious that your getting all worked up over my personal decision! Its really touching! No you didn't, but you don't have to. People new to the games see posts like yours and will automatically assume the worse, even though many of the issues presented have proven to be false or void. Thats their problem not mine! ROFL- Im glad you think im THAT important to BIS and the integrity of this community! /sarcasm (So what? Am I supposed to censor myself in the name of sales?) Seriously though, like I said, I WILL buy OA, just not on launch day- I voiced my reasons why, whether or not they were valid or correct reasons is for you and others to debate! I do support you on correcting my misinformation though, as I hope I am wrong, I really do! I love the ArmA series as much as you, which is why I come here and waste my time in the first place! New players will love this new game, im just not sure this old veteran-dinosaur will!

I dont see any reason to launch A2 if you have OA installed (with access to everything) but you might miss Eagle Wing if you dont patch to 1.5 first, we dont know yet.. sniper pilot 36 Posted June 27, 2010 (edited) OK Now that more information has been released, either through reviews, friends or other community members, I think I should follow up on what I wrote here before. -How well will A2 integrate with OA?Very well apparently, I was real afraid of FLIR creating a rift between ArmA2 and OA. But as you can see from this pic: FLIR PIC I have nothing to fear anymore. -How easy will it be to port over addons? See above. From what I understand all A2 content works with OA. -When and more importantly IF, Bis decides to release tools needed to make OA content. This is still a valid question. Though my confidence on this subject shot up since i last posted. (And it sounds like we can mod OA with the A2 tools) -Things like OA's lame "medic" call and possibly even worse AI than A2(due to the addons and mods A2 has) is what's keeping me from this game. Granted this was a really silly thing to not buy a game over... And by the sounds of it, the radio voices have really improved! Pre-Final verdict: Most, if not all my worries have been silenced, leaving me feeling rather stupid for ever doubting BIS! I absolutely cannot wait to purchase Operation Arrowhead! I regret that im not home for the release! OH, and ill buy any and all DLC from BiS so long as they keep supporting the mod community too! Alex72 1 Posted June 27, 2010 Yep. No more wondering if ARMA2 should be installed. FLIR is backwards compatible wich was one of the things many thaught wouldnt be. So if you dont have ARMA2 - get it! Having them both = massiveness. :)
