AI Teammates keep switching to/from binoculars and corrupt savegames.

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty sure my AI squad has NOT been doing this all along. I suddenly notice that (in Manhattan mission of SP campaign) they are frequently switching to/from their binocs. I don't recall them ever doing this before. They even stop running just to switch to binoculars for about three seconds. I have them set to Aware, No Target, Disengage, In Formation, and either Stand Up or Stay Low.

I wonder if it's related to my save-game corruption problem from earlier today. I had an Autosave-CTD and could not reload any of my most recent save games. I tried deleting just the Autosave, then tried moving back and back and back until finally I was down to my last two savegames ( just kept deleting them until finally one worked). So this one loaded up, but now I notice this odd behavior. Has my game been corrupted? Do I need to Revert to the beginning of Manhattan?

Thanks for any help. I am using 1.05, Vista 64 - started the campaign with version 1.05.

An old problem. When i set my own missions up i make sure not to give the AI binos or pistols as they might switch to them instead.

Jep I hate the Pitol switching, especially if they become Stuck after that. Try to teamswitch to your AI comrades if possible and drop Binos and Pistols

Yeah same here. I never give them pistols, and if the "binoc feel" is important enough to the mission, I script a stop, then give them a binoc, and force them to use it. Then remove it again afterwards. An EH-killed will add it to them if they don't have them when they die.

Or just order them do drop their stuff. :p

Thanks for the replies. I have also had some success today with switching to each squad mate and forcing them to view binocs, then back to rifle. I'm not sure how often we have the option to actually "become" the other guys in the squad, but at least where I am now it works.

Sometimes even that doesnt work. However this happens a lot less in A2 compared to A1. Actually have never encoutered this in A2. All the time in A1 though.

Agreed. Just had this happen to me and it is frustrating as hell. How the hell can this still be a bug within ARMA2...going on years now. This is basic infantry tactics.....

It does seem to happen...when you split a member off from your fire team....and give seperate orders (to the larger remaining squad). It makes no sense....

Almost as frustrating as the 'AT Dance'. ( A constant switcharoo between primary weapon and Launcher) or the "Grenade Launcher fumbling" you'll sometimes see the AI aim up in the sky when they try to shoot 40mms -- most often to very little effect.

Seems like the best loadout for the AI is a regular Assault Rifle (with scope to increase their engagement/spotting range) and POSSIBLY handgrenades (which they use quite proficiently)

-k

One thing I've noticed is that when they get into the binoculars loop, they're also constantly looking through scopes on their rifles. When I switch to each squadmate to fix the problem, I find each one is either looking through the scope and about to switch to binoculars or vice versa. There is obviously a connection there because when they're not in the binoc loop, I have never found them looking down scopes when I switch to them for any other reason.

I find them switching to their pistols.....after you try and switch them from one formation to another. If I start out in a Diamond Formation all goes well...... Though if half way through I send one member of the team off to a location by himself to provide cover... while telling the the rest of my fireteam to switch to a "V" formation and move......it is in times / switches like these that all over a sudden they have their pistols out and usually #2 will repeat himself over and over and "move, I'll cover"....

Whatever the deal is.... This is basic infantry tactics that BIS has to get fixed.
