warfare simulation

Recommended Posts

what about to use the radio, actually pulling a phone off the radioman's back?

what if when a call comes in he tells you theres a call in direct sound?

what if he's dead and you can't contact base?

what if the medic actually needed some arcade version of medical knowledge, a mini game, to get you back on track?

what if getting in and out of a vehicle were as detailed as grand theft auto series?

ask yourself these questions because the technology is out there yet update after update we don't have these things, yet its capable to have them in other games

if bis is doing this for our money and not our enjoyment, why doesn't someone take them on and make a competitor war simulator?

and if they are doing this for our enjoyment? why aren't these ideas implemented?

i don't want to sling turds at bis, i want to talk about the possibilities here of actually getting these ideas done, what do we need?

Have you ever played ArmA or ArmA II?

I am not sure if these features are covered or not but i thik that may be a VBS 2 thing. There comes a time in any game with an open engine that you get a line. Sometimes if you cross that line it no longer becomes a game, it becomes a war simulator. Some people may say, if you want it to be as real as it gets, then join the military or an airsoft group. I made a post that became a lenghy thread about having children in arma to enhance the realism and making more serious decisions about storming towns or calling in an airstrike. That thread had an equal amount of pros and cons. At the end of the day, arma (without the addons, mods and updates) is still probably one of the most accurate and realistic war games you can get without actually signing up for real. Its not a linear and strict one way to win an objective like other games. If your points were implemented into arma i would agree it makes it much better but again where do you draw the line? I can now say that if you went down the line and asked 10 random members of this forum to name 10 things they would like to see added to arma to make it more realistic and you would get 100 more things to add and it still wouldn't be close to being real.

I remember back in the flashpoint days when me and my cousin where hardcore "resistance" gamers with our 1.95 patch and all the addons and mods it was capable of playing without making it unstable. I remember saying to my cousin "wouldn't it be awesome if you could jump on the back of a tank and drop a grenade into the hatch." And he said to me "that probably could be done with flashpoint because its so open ended, it just needs the right script, but i can think of many more practical extras to make the game better." But as i said you can script anything with arma if you know how but if you had 1000 realism extras added, i guarantee you someone will still ask for something that hasnt been done.

I think it depends on what it is you really think is important in a war simulator. Is it really important to have really "cool" animations to get into & out of a vehicle? Or can we assume that the more important stuff is battlefield fidelity? Is it really necessary to make a medic play a little minigame to heal someone, or can we assume that as an ingame medic, he is "gifted" with the knowledge of how to do his job? I might like to choose to be a chopper pilot ingame, but that doesn't mean that I need to know exactly how to fly a chopper, my avatar is a pilot and therefore knows how to use a chopper, all I need to do is fly it to where I'm needed & do the job I'm supposed to.

I mean, it'd be nice to be able to import simulations into ArmA2 etc, but the important stuff is battlefield fidelity IMO.

speaking of which you gotta love the arma medics. I never seen a single bandage, iv drip, syringe or scalpel to this day. All i see is some pervy dude in uniform and bandana completely molesting and rubbing down injured soldiers which i suppose in a real life situation is awesome.

"you want the morphine? tickle tickle. what you gonna do? come on fight me off, ooooh a big wounded man, lets tickle you here and grope you here."

what if he's dead and you can't contact base?

Thats scriptable. One example of this is in the A1 mission "dynamic war" by mrn.

Now, someone in your group HAS to have a radio, if it's lost or the guy carrying it goes down you will lose ALL the standard radio options. This is on any of the missions. Quick test for you, shoot number 2 who will have the radio by default and open up the map, voila, no radio. Pick up the radio or get one of the AI to and the radio options come back, this means it's important to keep this guy alive or make sure you carry the radio to be able to call any of the support or even an evac.

Check my sig. Thats a feature of A2TS3 which is coming out very soon.

what if when a call comes in he tells you theres a call in direct sound?

Check my sig... ;)

what if he's dead and you can't contact base?

Check my sig again! :D

We are going striving to bring the most realistic possible radio simulation you could possibly imagine to ArmA2. :)

Still much better than lift up a med-pack and hold it infront of you or just walk over a couple as you do in other games ;) ACE has and is improving the medic though.

Most games today dont even have medpacks. you just take cover some seconds and you are ready to soak up new bullets.

With the combination of the right mods you will get this and much more features to make a much better simulated battlefield then in the vanilla version.

Arma2TS (direct positional audio, short mid and long range radio with frequenzes and ambient backround radio sounds while using radio)

ACE (stamina, backpacks, medicsystem with much stuff to use, weapon resting, ballistics, backblast & much much more)

WarFX (better explosions, more dust, more effects)

csm2 (best firefight sounds)

to name a few i use

Do you really know a gta game which can handle 6000km² maps and thousand units which are stored and not random generated 100m in front of you? Dont think so

They did. The company was called CodeMasters.

Nearest competitors are DSC LOMAC and Steel Beasts. There's not enough money in the realism market to expect a commercial company to come up with all you've asked for in a release aimed at the public. The more complexity a company adds to the 'game'/ simulation, the fewer potential customers will be attracted to it.

That's why mods have to fill the gaps.
