Ironsights larger?

Recommended Posts

IS it just me or do the ironsights look like I'm holding the rifle out at maybe not quite arms length but close to it?

I think the ironsight models need to be expanded so they're about half way between the size they are now and the size of OFP ones.

Change your FOV and they change in size.Feels real good to me at settings below though its harder to fight since they block more view.

fovTop=0.5025; --> default was 0.75

fovLeft=0.89333302; --> default was 1.333333

have you tried holding the right mouse button down while ironsighted to move closer to them?

It doesn't really move closer to them, but decreases the FOV. This not only makes the iron sights larger, but also everything else.

The biggest problem is with aperture sights. Because the 'ghost ring' isn't actually transparent, you only have a tiny view through the sights to find the target with. An entire squad could hide behind the rear post of the MP5.

maturin hits the nail on the head and thanks Wolfstiked for that suggestion - I'll try it out.

I was jumping back on to say that GDT have a mod that gives pretty much an acceptable solution.

GDT's ironsight mod goes an awful long way to giving what I need (will check out Wolf's figures as well tho) - those guys have a stack of terrific stuff - their HDR control is the CORE of my ARMA2 game - and I'm using just about all their other stuff - tho it's taken a while to get it all to work - I must be tanglefingers or something because I swear I can't get ANY GDT stuff to work in a @GDT/addons folder - have to put each pbo in some other addons folder - wierd.

Further to what maturin said: I agree, the whole part of the weapon we see is too much in focus - it should be a very blurry effect - especially the apertures (the light circle around inner edge of aperture + darker centre circle would be nice too...) and CQB optics like AIMpoint and HOLO should have MUCH less obtrusive (blurred out) surrounds/frames.

Yeah, I suggested a while back to make the rear sight or aimpoint device LOD semitransparent to the rifle owner, or do a depth based fade or something, but that didn't fare well :/ Apparently having it "look good" was more important than being able to "fight good".

I don't know how this would have worked out, but it sure would have been nice being able to try :)

Setting Post Process to high blurs the weapon in iron sight mode substantially, but I'm not sure if the front post is in focus or not. I don't really have the graphics processing muscle to run high PP with the VD I want.

Unfortunately this also causes a crap-ton of other nauseating post-processing like... blurring everything as soon as you move, move the camera, or pretty much do anything at all, making the eyes hurt just from watching the screen :(

It's not that people don't want it, it's just that semi-transparency of 3d models is simply not practical performance-wise, and going back to 2d textures for sight (as seen in a select few much older games) would just be ugly (as you can see if you check those games' graphics).

Actually, post-process on max settings, at least on my system, looks less demanding and has a far better rendering, as all the bad glowing and over-blur seem to all go back to sustainable levels. I was absolutely against PP before, now I only use max PP setting

The motion blur is much overstated if your frame rate is low. At a reasonable frame rate it actually looks pretty nice.
