  1. 1. Aggressive Animals in Arma II

    • Yes! I'd like to see Aggressive Animals
    • No! There is no need of that.

gun > boar.

gun > elephant.

gun > wolf.

gun > velociraptor?

gun = t-rex?

Pretty sure that a gunshot itself would scare most of them away.

The ingame wild animals like rabbits and boars already tend to run away from us. Roes and deers is all that I'm missing.

:thumb: with you on this. Deer would have been nice to see running through the woods in Chernarus.

Not so sure about gun>boar

In fact it seems to me that boars can differenciate between "hunters" = men with hunting gear and dog and unharmfull "hikers" also with dog. Fact is that I have much rarely seen Boars when in the woods as a soldier or hunter, but most of the time seen them hiking.

My platoon Sergent was always saying he feared boars more than Hezbollah... Those things are huge!

I don't think BIS is gonna take this topic seriously..can anyone in this community create an add-on for Elephant and Tiger. I am just eager to shoot at'em. If anyone creates something like this or has already created pls post the link here.

Animating such animals would be a problem. There's no skeleton nor animation that is the correct proportion or gate for an elephant, nor a tiger, so these would have to be made from scratch.

If it is possible to create skeletons and animations in ArmA 2, the information on how to certainly isn't as readily available as creating new textures and materials. I'm a trained animator, but hell if I know how to make an animation for ArmA 2. The closest I've come is making poses for the crew of the CWR trabant... and the tools to make those animations are ++ unfriendly.

So chances of a addons of any quality for tigers or elephants are not good.

IMHO the most important aspect of animals isn't their physical appearance (incl. aggressive behaviour). It's the sound they make, offering great atmosphere. By that I'm thinking of crickets, frogs and fire salamanders. A nice august evening without the zirping sound of crickets isn't really summer. A swamp during spawn season isn't really a swamp. Sure, it's nice to see something moving, but what is essential is the sound.

Keep in mind how obsessed BIS is with details once they decide to implement something (think of the stars up in the skies), the sounds of the environment changes drastically over the seasons, offering great variance and choices for mission makers to set the mood.

In this way, animals are a great means of really differentiating the seasons implemented in the engine (besides the weather, which we all hope to see completed (snow, vegetation, foliage, etc.), one shiny day... :butbut:).

But I agree, more completely implemented and useful guard dogs would be tons of fun.

There are probably hunting games that would suit you better than Arma.

Okay, how many land animal addons do we have? How many alien monsters do we have? For that matter, how many alternate human animations do we have?

Yeah, I thought so.

The dogs need to attack people. The trailer made it look like they did, and it's not just aping Cod4. SWAT teams have huge problems with dogs, and a module connecting dogs barking at intruders to AI alertness would be just like real life and give stealth a new meaning.

Dangerous wildlife isn't particularly important or realistic, but you should have a reason to be nervous if a wild boar is within a couple meters of you. They could just charge sometimes if bothered and knock you over.
