paulpjholcomb 10 Posted May 14, 2010 Hey guys! I was just wondering how good the friendly and enemy AI is. Does friendly AI know to get to cover if under fire or do you have to tell them? Will the enemy try using tactics such as flanking? Thank you, Paul
TRexian 0 Posted May 14, 2010 Depends on what your expectations are. To answer your specific questions: - yes, generally AI (both friendly and enemy) use cover - depending on various other behavor parameters; in fact, sometimes they use cover when you don't necessarily want them to - yes, generally AI use techniques like flanking, and covering/suppressive fire. icewindo 29 Posted May 14, 2010 Yep the AI definitely improved compared to ArmA1 or OFP. In the previous titles the AI used to get down and maybe move a few meters when under fire, but they stayed at their position in general. In ArmA2 (Vanilla) I had AI flanking me, laying suppressive fire and sneaking up on me, that never happened in ArmA1/OFP.
walker 0 Posted May 14, 2010 Hi all The Zeus AI mod helps too! Kind Regards walker
mosh 0 Posted May 14, 2010 I think the AI is very good. The only issue I have is their driving. But I guess if you saw the way people drive where I live it's pretty realistic... :)
paulpjholcomb 10 Posted May 14, 2010 Thanks, guys! I've been playing Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, and the friendly AI occasionally shoots you in the back. There are also plenty of other problems with DR's AI, both friendly and enemy.
mosh 0 Posted May 14, 2010 Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising I've heard that name somewhere... it would be safe to say the AI in Arma 2 is much better than the above mentioned game.
TRexian 0 Posted May 14, 2010 Ah... now I understand the frame of reference. For instance, I used to play Doom. I think the jump from Doom-AI to ArmA2-AI is only slightly smaller than the jump from OFP:DR-AI to ArmA2-AI. (Caveat - I've not played OFP:DR, so I'm only going by what I've read and seen on utube.) ;)
[asa]oden 0 Posted May 14, 2010 friendly AI is drunk or just emotionally disabled but enemy AI are very good having no problems headshotting you from 5km with a rusty AKM while throwing themselves out from a BMP exploding from a 4000mm nuclear bomb. One day, I'll be as good.
TRexian 0 Posted May 14, 2010 No, no, you really won't. ;) For the record, AO is exaggerating a bit. :D (Oh, and shouldn't you be buried in FF 5.5? The improved carrier stuff looks awesome.) ;)

You don't happen to have any insider info on BMS, do you?) :p
TRexian 0 Posted May 14, 2010 (hehe Hell, I don't even have any insider information on FF anymore!) :) But, I agree with the poster who suggested Zeus AI, or really any of the other AI improvements. The default A2 AI is solid by normal simulation standards, but can certainly be improved. It has also improved during the official patching process, too. NeMeSiS 11 Posted May 14, 2010 (edited) I would say that the AI is pretty good, but about as immersive to play with as playing soldiers with some bricks. But i still mostly play offline anyway. Edited May 14, 2010 by NeMeSiS

Flash Thunder 10 Posted May 15, 2010 Could be alot better. BIS is a small company and doesnt have a billion dollar budget so its good. But it could get alot more realistic, especially friendly AI and adding more moral and emotion to them so they're less "terminator" esque.
qwertz 10 Posted May 15, 2010 The AI is as good or bad as any AI. If you like to play against AI in other games, ArmA2 will certainly not completely disappoint you.
Michael Withstand 10 Posted May 15, 2010 I just had one enemy soldier standing up then put both his hands on his head indicating surrender after his whole company was wiped out while trying to counterattack in an airfield. Does the AI have moral too? Or was it a script? Played with ACE2.
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted May 15, 2010 You can place the surrender module in the editor, and make sure the have some flee capabilities left in them, and they will surrender if overpowered. SetSkill array shows they have courage (morale?). Not sure if this is connected to the groups allowFleeing level. Surrendering is still something done with scripts, even if it is done via a module.
