are u running a 64bit OS? If so then I recommend whatever compatibility settings it has for 32 bit programs, I know alot of 32 bit games (like arma) crap out in 64bit for some people while others its ok.

Worth a try, if it still doesnt work feel free to PM me and I'll do what I can to help.

Marlowe I read your other posts and I haven't seen much talk about video card drivers, just that you updated your video card.

The problems you are having sound to me like you are having driver issues, since it also happens in other games.

#1 Make you sure you have run Windows Update and your computer is up to date.

#2 make sure you have installed the 1.05 patch, and from the sound of it you might want a fresh install.

#3 don't defrag 10 times :) Once is good for a while.

#4 check this Nvidia thread for any tweaks you should make. Specifically shut off Physics in your Nvidia control panel.

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=76908

#5 Then I would uninstall your video driver from Add/Remove, I think you have a bad video driver install.

Download Driver Sweeper

http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-%28Setup%29-download-1655.html

* Use the official uninstaller(s) of the driver(s) you want to uninstall in Windows 7.

* Reboot your PC in Safe Mode. Hit cancel if Windows prompts you to install a driver, always.

* Run Driver Sweeper and select what to clean - in your case Nvida Display and/or Physics. But if you have any old Ati drivers or any other display drivers you want to tick those as well. Press Analyze and then Clean. A few entries will appear to go uncleaned. That's fine, they will be overwritten when you do another driver install.

*Reboot your computer in normal mode.

*IMPORTANT - hit cancel if you are prompted by Windows to install a driver, hit cancel.

* Download the most up to date WHQL driver for your card from Nvidia's website.

In your case I believe it is this:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_x64_197.16_whql.html

*Install, restart.

Just to make sure go to your Device Manager make sure you have no ! or ?, should be ok then.

From your other thread:

Graphics: Generic PnP Monitor 1600x900 NIVIDIA Geforce GT 240M

Let me get this straight...you're trying to run Arma and even Arma 2 on a mobile GT 240M in a laptop? Even if you were running at 1024x768 resolution, I'm not sure you'd get acceptable frame rates. The GT 240M is an extremely low-end graphics solution.

Do I have your specs wrong?

I think he is probably using that graphics card. It would explain his issues IIRC. The only way you can get away with using an old, not that good GFX Card is if your using a desktop. I'm using an NVidia 7800 and i get good FPS.

Its more of a newer card really, its an AlienWare m15x and has 1gb graphics and can run Crysis and COD on all high settings, the card is the least of the worries. I have tried downloading the drivers, nothing.. My computer is being a butthead in ways one day Arma 2 worked like an angel on all high settings, even the demo too anad then i download patch 1.05 and boom! everything screwed up again. Reinstalled and had the same problems. Even the requirments lab said I could run this game on all HIGH settings.

Really I think its the HyperThreading of the i7 core. But I cant find the darn switch, I looked through the BIOS and could not find anything.

One word "HEAT".

My sons laptop had all kinds of issues with fps while running Valve games. Turns out his laptop was retaining too much heat. Got him one of those stands that has a fan built in, solved his fps problems.

Well Marlowe, I just got Arma off steam and my problem is not yet answered, but, It seems that yours, mine, and many others PC is too new or "better" for Arma. Not sure. But it seems Win 7 64 bit just dosn't work with this game without a 3rd party program running to enhance the game.

Marlowe, right click your ARMA2 shortcut that starts the game, and in the target box where your ARMA2.EXE path is add this line: -CpuCount=4

That will run ARMA2 with only 4 cores instead of the hyper threaded 8. This has a huge impact on performance on my pc.

Your target box should look something like this:

"C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ARMA2\ARMA2.exe" -CpuCount=4

You can also add -nosplash to start the game faster. So:

"C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ARMA2\ARMA2.exe" -CpuCount=4 -nosplash

Then of course like all BIS titles it takes a while to get it to run good. You have to tweak the settings quite a lot to get the best performance out of the game. Sure its a bit of a hassle - but what a game. :)

Please also find ARMA2.CFG wich is in C:\Users\Username\Documents... You see an ARMA2 folder there and inside you have the CFG file. Open it up and find the 2 lines called:

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000;

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3;

Change to:

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=2;

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=2;

Test that if it feels better. If you want even faster, quicker response change values to "1" on both. Also in your in-game settings under controls you can turn mouse smoothing down to about 20-30% to get away from the "creamier" heavier feeling. Also set the terrain detail to "normal". You dont really need it higher, and since grass takes a lot of FPS it can help quite a bit.

Depending on your video memory you should set the in-game accordingly: video memory=high if you have 896mb-1gb card. Vhigh if you have above it, but dont use "default" as it has been working badly for some. Textures to high instead of vhigh helps - still looks kickass. Also 3D Resolution set to 100% and not above or under that value to have crisp image with good performance.

Thats from the top of my head, but give it a go - and dont give up.
