allamawitharifle 10 Posted April 20, 2010 I'm just wondering how would I assign my controls so that they work more like flashpoint's old style. I've never really liked the douple tap W to sprint and stuff, I tried setting sprint as shift but when I let go of shift the guy doesn't stop sprinting and theres a few other controls which have similar problems. Is this just me being a bit silly or what? Or do you guys like the controls for ArmA
11aTony 0 Posted April 20, 2010 I like to have a mix between OFP and ArmA style controls. Like space to shift trough weapons/modes and 2xW to sprint, etc. You should probably unbind toggle run/walk key in order for shift to be sprint. Just take some time and figure it out. As you probably know, key bind turns red if already used so it shouldnt be a problem. However some keys do not have exact same function as in OFP.
Alex72 0 Posted April 20, 2010 I guess its a "finger thing". Not to sound like a douche or something but my fingers are pretty fast over the keyboard so i find the ARMA controls not so bad. However it feels like my fingers are everywhere and they are double tapping and dancing hardcore techno and walz at the same time while playing so i can understand OP's point. But to reply to the question about liking the controls i can only say they are ok to me even though they probably could be better. I also think, again, its a practising thing. If i recall properly it was a bit hard in the beginning for me too (ArmA1).
jakerod 248 Posted April 20, 2010 I made my sprint key E. I think Q and E used to be lean which I believe I switched to Tab and J or something like that.
Master gamawa 0 Posted April 20, 2010 I assigned sprint and fast forward to the same 'run' key so I just press it once to go from walking to running and hold it down to sprint. I don't even remember the flashpoint controls. it does turn red but it works fine.
wamingo 1 Posted April 20, 2010 I agree 2xW is slow and interrupts the movement both when going to sprint and back to run. Do you use Ctrl for anything important? I assigned sprint to Ctrl+E (kept 2xW as well though) although I'm not sure why I chose ctrl+'E', seing as simply Ctrl+W makes more sense. Oh well. :)

Or do you guys like the controls for ArmA Flashpoints user interface was simple and intuitive. It is quite possible to reconfigure your game flashpoint style albeit you'll somehow need to make room for a few new features. 1. Left and Right Lean 2. Step over Keyboard binds are something I've experimented extensively with. Unfortunately some key-combinations are not possible due to hard-bound keys of arma2. -k OPF edit: For those of you who don't remember Operationflashpoints default keybinds. It went like this. WASD - directional movement Q - Toggle Crouch and Up while flying. Slow while driving. Z - Toggle Prone and Down while flying F - Toggle Walk/slow E- Move Fast forward - Fast while driving. SPACE- Toggle weapons V- Optics/Ironsights R- Reload Still possible to utilize right now. Albeit you'll need to make room for lean. Perhaps C and X for lean? V retained as step over. jakerod 248 Posted April 21, 2010 I use V for optics and made numpad 0 be step over. Its a bit far away but I A.) don't use it much anyway, and B.) you have to stop moving in order to use it and you can't fire while doing it so I can use either hand. CarlGustaffa 3 Posted April 21, 2010 Don't neglect evasive forward. Very nice emergency move.
wamingo 1 Posted April 21, 2010 Don't neglect evasive forward. Very nice emergency move. What do you use Evasive Forward for? Only use I found for it was to go from prone to run while crawling foward... But the exact same move can be done, to either run or sprint using 'Stand Up' key, again while crawling forward (W or Ctrl+W respectively for instance). Do you perhaps use "UP/DOWN" binds instead of "Stand Up/Crouch/Prone" or a combo?
grub 10 Posted April 22, 2010 I take it evasive forward is double tap? If so I use it due to the smoother transition from crouch to sprint and prone to sprint, good for making that gap. From memory, and I could be wrong, you stand still for a millisecond before you go to sprint when you hit 'stand up'. With Opf controls I've only changed iron sights to v and made 'double tap C' as 'step over' as its almost the next step from standing. I felt the ArmA2 defaults were sweet from then on in as its almost Opf system v.2.0. Well it is... You'll get used to 'run', and lean is always a welcomed upgrade, again you'll get used to it. CarlGustaffa 3 Posted April 22, 2010 Lol, I wasn't aware of evasive being possible from crawl simply by standing up. I had my own keys just to do that. So, thanks :) Like Jakerod I've changed 'v' to be optics, like I was used to in OFP and Arma1. For the fence, I'm using double C.
wamingo 1 Posted April 22, 2010 From memory, and I could be wrong, you stand still for a millisecond before you go to sprint when you hit 'stand up'. If you hit Stand Up BEFORE hitting Run/Sprint then the Stand Up animation will finish before letting the soldier move. But if you hit run/sprint before Stand-Up it should make a nice smooth dash. I suspect Evasive Forward is obsolete. No reason to change anything you like, of course. :)
