Wreck-It 0 Posted April 14, 2002 I used to have a small 4 bay full tower. I run my PC on over clock, like many of us gamers. Had a problem with heat dispersal, so I installed additional fans: 1 to cool the ram banks, 1 to get air in the tower (most of us have one) 1 extra fan cooling the top side of my vid board,  and one that I stuck on the outer wall of my power supply pushing air inside the power supply itself to help the one inside it to push the air out. This solution was effective, but noisy. Any knid of fiddling inside my case was like going thrue hell. Just bought an Enermax 5x5Ľ, 10 HD bays server tower. This thing rocks! 3 fams to push warm air out, and 2 to get frash air in. The IDE cables are no longer an impediment to air flow, since the casing is so large... It stands 2 feet high! 24 inches IS tall, but well worth it! Also, to all that suffer the noisy tower blues, read this: My buddy as an Asus G-F2 vid board. Most of you probably know that it's cooled by a blue orb round fan wich is hard to come by "standalone". His was getting so noisy, he could'nt help banging on his casing to have it stop the noise every couple of minute... Not a good idea... I dable in my car's mechanics once in a while and had a tube of TEFLON lube (not car grease or oil). i took out his fan, punched the inner-side central sticker, put in a dab of the stuff, then took a razor blade to stuff some of it on the side's thin gap between the axle and the contact plate. I then took a straw and blew thrue it on the outer edge of the fan blades to have it spin the extra lube out, so it would'nt splatter all over in his PC, then i re-installed it. Success, no more noise... None at all.. I had read about some guys lubing with oil, but oil is somewhat conductive, so I never dared to do it. But tefflon lube is neutral, and it's petroleum jelly base made it less sloppy and longer lasting than oil. The brand of lube used: Super Lube, maker: Synco, of Bohemia, NY. If you get your hands on this stuff, try it! I even lube my brand new tower's fans with it and even on new fans, the noise level goes down dramaticaly...

Wreck-It 0 Posted April 14, 2002 And why, I ask you did you feel you needed to spam this topic? I'm just giving out a tip for people who have a noise problem... If you feel like spaming with useless posts, why don't you at least choose a thread where poeple are already spaming and posting useless comments? I'm no newbie, and I don't spam or write junk. Wether on this forum, or on the old one, I beleive I've helped more than hinder. Some old timers will atest to that, i'm pretty sure. Post counts don't matter much to me, quality info, on the other hand, does. If you think your so hot, why do you have to denigrate people's personal choices anyway? Major Fubar 0 Posted April 14, 2002 Wreck it, chill man...this kinda shit happens on the forum. I've had lots of serious threads get filled up with spam, but what he said wasn't that bad, I mean really, was it?
Wreck-It 0 Posted April 14, 2002 Well, after a couple of answers, when the thread actually has a disscusion on a subject, changing the subject to a lighter side does'nt offend me, what does offend is when a serious topic is not allowed to go on long enough for usefull info to be posted on it. He would've posted this 10 post later, I would'nt of minded, it's the stuff of forums, but off-the-bat right after the thread just started... I think it's cheap and childish, but ten fold worst: Right down annoying.
Die Alive 0 Posted April 14, 2002 Does anyone know if there is a fan inside a monitor? I never really checked, but my old monitor was making this humming noise (quieter than a CPU fan, but higher pitched) and the only way to get it to shut up was to "tap" the side of the monitor. -=Die Alive=-
Wobble 1 Posted April 14, 2002 the best solution for noise I have found is a LARGE and THICK case.. the more room inside the better the airflow and the thicker the sides the better the sound dampening.. also 2 or 3 big fans is quieter than 5 or 6 small ones. Die Alive 0 Posted April 15, 2002 Would one fan work? -=Die Alive=-
Wreck-It 0 Posted April 15, 2002 ROTFL!!!!! Dude, that is one step past the water& peltier! And I thought my new Enermax case was wel fanned!!
Wobble 1 Posted April 15, 2002 actually that case is shit, it offers no EMI protection.. which can over time cause problems.. that and it looks stupid.

R. Gerschwarzenge 0 Posted April 15, 2002 Noisy fans are not a problem for me but every time when my DVD and CD-RW drives start to spin at the same time my computer sounds like a 747 on a liftoff.
Wreck-It 0 Posted April 15, 2002 Would these drives a Creative or Toshiba, perhaps... lol yeah, some drives really are like there's a kid playing with pots & pans in your casing... A buddy of has a Creative 52... I'd just as soon shoot myself in the foot, rather than enduring one of those in my PC... I use a Light-On drive, (Psst... they are made by plextor, I was told, but sell Ľ of the price) They are silent ferraris, and they'll take a previously sandblasted CD and play it as if new... Are you sure you don't mean Liteon? I have a Liteon DVD and it was cheap and it works like a charm. Unfortunately I have a Creative cd-drive in the computer at work and I think it grinds some rocks hidden inside it's surface. Actually most of the noise of my computer at home comes from the case when it starts to resonate every time when the drives start spinning. Sometimes when I carefully adjust the case from here and there the noise stops and everything is OK for a while. Then some screws get loose and... *SHHHRINGGGG-SCHGLORKA-SCHGLORKA-SCHWURRRRRRRTRING-TRING-TRING* I need some superglue.
Supah 0 Posted April 15, 2002 Talking about cooling and stupidity..... some of you may remember me coimplaining about odd beeping sounds. Well after installing all the newest drivers and messing with my bios for multiple hour i looked at my cooling fan ...... discovering a 4 mm thick layer of dust! Took that off and now it works like a charm .... im so ashamed

Wreck-It 0 Posted April 16, 2002 Liteon is probably the right spelling. And yeah, they do work wonders. It's now been a couple of days with that new Enermax tower. I could'nt of asked for more: It runs rather silently, even though I have 5 high air-flow Sunnon fans in there. I lubed 'em all up, though. Dito for the power supply and video board's fan. Teflon lube is a miracle! It cut the fan noise to a minimum. Even though this is a server case, it makes less noise than most PC cases that have only CPU and power supply fans. For all of you who haven't, spending the extra dollars IS WELL worth it. I live in Canada, where everything is twice the price and sale taxes are at 16% combined, so it cost me 170$ to get it, but the functionality of such a case is miraculous... I can now change a drive, move a jumper etc.. without taking out all the IDE cables and power supply... A real dream come thrue..
