Slyder73 10 Posted April 15, 2010 PvP is not dying in the community, you just need to know were to look ;) Does PvP have to be some secret knock, blindfolded ride to get there? Seems like that is the case.

walker 0 Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) Hi all Most Popular Game Modes (last 30 days) http://arma2.swec.se/game/statistics By Player time Coop is the most common But it is NOT the majority! The other modes add up to more than Coop By Games Played the two commonest missions are Warfare modes which are a PvP mode! By Games Played The first Coop mission that comes up is a domination mode and it acounts for less than a 1/4 of player time that the PvP mode Warfare acounts for and considerably less numbers of missions. People fail to realise a lot of ArmA is just small groups of people say 8 to 16 on personal servers playing a PvP form like warfare. The myth that ArmA is all coop is just that a myth. Look at that pie chart, Team, Hold and CTI are all PvP modes. The real statisitics are always better than Daily Mail style headlines! Kind Regards walker Edited April 15, 2010 by walker

Kind Regards walker Guess we have a different definition what PvP is. In my book, PvP means no AI, competitive gameplay, e.g AAS, CTF,DM,TDM,C&H, etc.
galzohar 31 Posted April 15, 2010 PvP is player vs player. In warfare you have players vs players. Sure the AI mess up the experience a bit and I find the whole design of it massively flawed but it is still PvP.
celery 8 Posted April 15, 2010 Guess we have a different definition what PvP is. In my book, PvP means no AI, competitive gameplay, e.g AAS, CTF,DM,TDM,C&H, etc. The only requirement of pvp is that a player is playing against at least one other player. However the level and nature of human competition varies between game modes, as a map filled mostly by AI tends to take away the human element in combat. whisper 0 Posted April 15, 2010 PvP in a RTS involves lots of AI, but is still PvP. You can consider Warfare as a FPS/RTS mix :)
qwertz 10 Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) I guess we are splitting hairs here. Outside the ArmA universe, what people usually mean with PvP is that you are playing against human players exclusively, which then enables competitive gameplay. If there is a chance that I shoot at/get shot by some computer algorithm, its not really PvP IMHO. But hey, nothing gained or lost if you have a different definition. Edited April 15, 2010 by qwertz
galzohar 31 Posted April 15, 2010 Well, even with no AI there is randomness in the game code, so yeah, you're probably splitting hairs ;) Who cares what is defined as PvP and what isn't anyway? It's just a definition anyway.
