kylania 568 Posted December 5, 2010 The demo is outdated and in no way representative of the game today. Tell your friend to get the game already.
G.I. NO 10 Posted December 5, 2010 Hello, and welcome to the Community.Your questions arn't silly they are good questions about things you honestly dont know, or understand to how it works. No question is silly with this game, only silly questions are questions that ask for things of a game that cannot be done, so your in the right game;) To answer your questions as best as I can (as I dont own OA, just everything before OA) Most addons and Mods will affect pretty much everything you play assuming that the addon is Installed correctly, and setup in your shortcut. Be it Sp or Mp you should ideally see the results and or effects that the addon or mod was built to do. Firstly, thank you for your kind welcome, ARMA certainly can seem overwhelming for a newbie, I guess all the guys and girls who play ARMA were one once! Embarrassingly for myself, you were right to suspect that the fault would lie with the noob rather than the system- my fault alone for an error in the target line :o I amended that and tested in the editor and scenario, and although I did get one message saying a certain file couldn't be loaded, I clicked 'continue' and SLX seemed very much to be working (amazing difference to vanilla ). Once again, I very much apologize for the oversight, and thank you again for taking time out to offer your help, it is much appreciated.

G.I. NO 10 Posted December 5, 2010 (edited) I don't like the bit where a file couldn't be loaded. Which file, and when did the message pop up?OK, as I said this is all new to me, so I will try to explain-- I have installed @CBA;@CBA_OA;@SLX in C:\.......\ArmA Operation Arrowhead -My target line is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead\arma2OA.exe" -mod=@CBA;@CBA_OA;@SLX - I load OA from the desktop shortcut -I get the Bohemia Interactve logo, but no Arrowhead logo which I used to get, and then a blank screen for a while -Then a credit line for CBA flashes up quickly, sickboy etc... -Then the main menu box appears, but with another pop-up box over the top saying "cannot load texture ca\weapons\data\t.select.paa.". I click 'continue' in the pop-up box. -When I check the expansions option in the main menu, only CBA/CBA OA are listed with the check box being green, not SLX (SLX was listed before I corrected my target line error, but was not checked green, but SLX is still in the OA directory) - If I choose 'single player' and 'editor', go in, then exit editor, another CBA credit flashes up, and I then get the same pop-up box over the main menu box saying "cannot load weapons\data..." -If I then choose 'scenarios' and pick 'play', I get another credit line for CBA, then go into scenario. -Exit scenario, get another CBA credit line, and a pop-up box over the scenario menu saying "cannot load material file ca\weapons\data rpg7.rvmat." I click 'continue' in the pop-up box and return to scenario menu, then main menu. I am sorry if that is confusing, but as an ArmA newbie I really do not understand what it means. Once I got the mods to load, , and having 'continued' past the \weapon\data\ pop-up box, I had a play around in the editor, and it certainly seemed that the SLX mod was working, much heavier rates of fire, more AI movement, more chatter etc..., but sometimes there would be no voice when I issued a command. And it seems that only CBA/CBA_OA are now listed in the expansions menu, but not SLX , where-as it was before I corrected the target line, but it still is in the C:\......\ArmA Operation Arrowhead\ folder. Sorry if I have used the wrong terminology when I said a "file" couldn't be loaded, as this is all new to me. Edited December 5, 2010 by G.I. NO
RANKER 10 Posted December 5, 2010 (edited) Yesterday, I was playing with few friends and I found out that while playing a multiplayer map I could'n see my teammates on the map when I press the M key !! Is there a way to fix this ? and how to do it ? all the best Edited December 5, 2010 by RANKER mispelling
concurssi 11 Posted December 5, 2010 You don't always see them I think. Depends on the difficulty settings. Personally, I prefer it that way :)
RANKER 10 Posted December 5, 2010 Why do you prefer it that way ?? If a teamate need backup how then can you help him if you don't know where he is ?? I don't know how to use the GPS or the COMPASS ( I need some tutorials on how to use these specific objects)
concurssi 11 Posted December 5, 2010 It just makes it necessary to actually navigate with the map instead of just seeing a floating icon and heading there. It would have been nice to have some tools like rulers and stuff though. And no offense, but how do you not know how to use a compass? I mean don't they teach you to read a map in school? Anyways, the GPS tells you the coordinates of something (like when someone says "I'm at 061167" or something) then those are the squares on your map. If you soom out, you'd see the 06 (the numbers are on the sides of the map), then you zoom further in and those squares are divided into smaller squares and that would be the 11 and so on. I can't actually remember how many numbers these coordinates can consist of, but that's the basics of it. Compass..... well, the arrow points north, and north is up on your map. Gunter Severloh 4051 Posted December 5, 2010 (edited) More tatcical to not know. Might as well play another game if you got all the indicators, and icons, and run n gun hud paraphanlia, lol Forces you to use that mush between your ears. Veteren Mode all the way! That way you focus more on the realistic aspects of the game, using the compass, and gps, and well I dont know about you guys but when I play, My buddy and I have our own server, and we use a voice program-ventrilo, as communication skills are imperitive for day to day operations ;) You can also locate someone by the use of the map grid. For the compass, it is based on real world coordinates 0=north 90=east 180=south 270=west If you are familier with your meters, just by understanding distance by your eyes alone(takes practice) your friend could give you a coordinate by way of land mark, then from that point either give you a coordinate on the map grid, or give you a distance. A good way to figure out where your friend is based on where you are is the position of the sun in game, if you have a watch you can look at your watch, watch would give you an idea of what time it is obviously but it would tell you too for example if it was lets say 3pm in the afternoon, then the sun would be angled to you. If you were facing north, the sun would be on your left, thats how you would know if the sun being on the left was east or west, as the sun sets in the west, rises, in the east. I would think most of the time you would have a compass. Use of the compass your buddy can say Im at this grid, by this thing, ect., It would have been nice to have some tools like rulers and stuff though. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8450 Edited December 5, 2010 by Gnter Severloh

maturin 12 Posted December 8, 2010 So if the engine is improved, why does Takistan run so much worse than Chernarus? There is so much less vegetation, and it doesn't look very detailed comparatively speaking. The grass is sparse, short and sort of fuzzy. There are fewer large settlements. It is a much smaller map overall. I feel like a playermade map with this less lush climate would run like a dream. I get better performance on Fallujah than I do in Utes, after all, and it is 4km of city to Zargabad's 1/2km.

I get better performance on Fallujah than I do in Utes, after all, and it is 4km of city to Zargabad's 1/2km. I agree that fallujah gives great performance. Zargabad basically sucks. Have you ever tried entering all the buildings in fallujah, or at least alot of them?? Well you cant. Reason why fallujah runs so great, well one of the reasons, is that many of the buildings are boxes wich you cannot enter, (closed houses) All the buildings in OA and zargabad you can enter and walk around in, wich forces game to create outside and inside walls, floors, roof for every single building. This is the reason for bad fps in zargabad and OA big citys. All they saved on less grass, threes etc is spent thrifold on getting all the nice walkable buildings running. And dont forget about destroyed buildings in oa, alot of mess for the game to handle after awhile rampaging on takistan or zargabad map.. Oh and btw, fallujah version 1 is rumored to soon be out
Flubadoo 10 Posted December 10, 2010 (edited) When I try to load up a game that I saved, either in campaign, or SP scenarios, I get this: cannot load texture ca\weapons\data\t.select.paa Then I can't resume. How do I fix it? Also, are there any effect mods for OA? Edited December 10, 2010 by Flubadoo
Gunter Severloh 4051 Posted December 10, 2010 (edited) Dont know about your issue. As for effects mods look through Armaholics OA section seen here: http://www.armaholic.com/list.php?c=arma2_oa_files Flubadoo You already post a similar question here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=111462 please heed the forum rules: §9) Do not cross-post Do not post duplicate threads in more than one forum simply to get an answer quicker or to draw more attention to your post. Raptor228 10 Posted December 11, 2010 Just downloaded Ace and AceX for OA standalone. When I load up the game it shows the error message "Include File x\cba\addons\main\script_eventhandlers.hpp not found." then doesnt play. Please help :)
Gunter Severloh 4051 Posted December 11, 2010 @Raptor228 You need CBA In the Advanced Combat Environment 2 OA - Core the requirements say that you need - Community Base addons get it here: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6231 when you put CBA in your shortcut target line it should look like this: For a standalone Operation Arrowhead: -mod=@CBA;@CBA_OA;@ACE;@ACEX
Raptor228 10 Posted December 12, 2010 Yeah I checked, I'm running OA with both CBA and CBA_OA. Do I only need one or the other?
Gunter Severloh 4051 Posted December 12, 2010 You need both Just like this: -mod=@CBA;@CBA_OA;@ACE;@ACEX
Raptor228 10 Posted December 12, 2010 Sorry it still doesn't work. Same error. :(
Gunter Severloh 4051 Posted December 12, 2010 Where do you have the CBA at, all the files should be in the main directory thats how Arma2 works, for OA I would assume its the same thing. Between CO, and OA, and all this other new stuff out for the game its even got me lost. Did you go into the cba folder and move the stuff thats in the store folder to the appropriate locations, like keys, signatures, and whatever else is in there? I dont know why Arma3 couldn't have just been made, and let the addons, and mods of the community do the rest like it used to be, now we have a real cluster on our hands. Raptor228 10 Posted December 12, 2010 Yeah no I have it all sorted out the same way that I do with all my other mods, its just ACE that doesn't work. CBA works cuz I have other mods that require it that I play with. From the error message it looks like I'm missing an hpp file in CBA but I don't know where it is. It isn't in the CBA file in my Arma 2 directory.
Gunter Severloh 4051 Posted December 12, 2010 Oh ok, maybe reinstall it. seems like according to the error your getting: "Include File x\cba\addons\main\script_eventhandlers.hpp not found." that it is in one of the addons, maybe a corrupt download, or something. if you unpbo the addon and look under the files: cba_main open that addon and see if the script_eventhandlers.hpp is in there, dont know why it wouldn't, only thing I can think of is do you have cba_main which is an addon in your CBA folder under addons. If Ace dont work then make sure you have ACe's userconfig installed in the main directory, but Ace requires cba.
Raptor228 10 Posted December 12, 2010 I found the eventhandlers.hpp file and put it in the right place (dont know why it wouldnt be) but now it can;t find a file in ACE "userconfig\ace\ace_clientside_config.hpp". why are none of these in the right places? I haven't moved anything around myself.
Gunter Severloh 4051 Posted December 12, 2010 (edited) This file: ACE "userconfig\ace\ace_clientside_config.hpp". is located here: In your main Arm2 or OA directory, where ever you have @ACE @ACE\Store \userconfig(zipped)\userconfig (unzipped)\ace\ace_clientside_config each \ is a folder. everything is in your @Ace folder, you just have to move the userconfig to your main directory, as that is what ace is asking for. Whats funny is A2WarMod in terms of Mod size being 122 addons, and mods its all preinstalled for you, you just have to move a 3-4 folders to the main directory, and change your shortcut. For ACE I dont understand why they couldn't do the same thing, I mean the userconfig is not big at all why zip it? and ACE team is a full mod team. Edited December 12, 2010 by Gnter Severloh
Raptor228 10 Posted December 13, 2010 To put into the main directory, where exactly is that? Do I take it out of the Store folder? and also, the mpmissions, missions and function library folders are zipped, do I need to move those too?
