Curry 10 Posted March 21, 2010 Is there a way to encrypt a Mission PBO or any kind of a prevention to extract the PBO for a short period of time? I ask because for example in a real war league where you have different factions of human players spawning in different locations on a map should not have the ability to ask a member of their group, that got shot to quit the game and open up the PBO to tell where the other factions spawned and where to eventually lay ambushes and other sort of things, that could harm fair gameplay. In Steel Beasts for example you can protect the mission with a password to prevent students from opening it to have a look on the opposing forces. That's really a good feature that would be very handy.
W0lle 1052 Posted March 21, 2010 In one word: no. You need to rely on honesty of the players which yes, might be quite hard at some time. :)
Curry 10 Posted March 21, 2010 Okay thank you Wolle for the quick and short answer.:) The problem is, that it happened already (extracting the PBO to get spawn locations and locations of objects that must be captured). Maybe the mission designer should then looking for another solution...:o
loyalguard 15 Posted March 21, 2010 As W0lle stated there is no external encryption, but there are some techniques you can apply when creating the mission that will make it harder to extract information like this...but not impossible. It also makes it harder to make your mission as well! I have sent you a pm if you would like more information.
jw custom 56 Posted March 21, 2010 Okay thank you Wolle for the quick and short answer.:)The problem is, that it happened already (extracting the PBO to get spawn locations and locations of objects that must be captured). Maybe the mission designer should then looking for another solution...:o Make different spawn locations and randomly select one, same goes for the objects to capture :)
galzohar 31 Posted March 21, 2010 Yes, randomness is key, not only will the be unable to cheat, but also after they play the mission once they *still* won't know where stuff are going to be the next time.
Defunkt 431 Posted March 21, 2010 Script the spawning of enemies using Random, CreateVehicle and arrays of predefined possible coordinates and run that script on the server at a path outside of the mission pbo.
