OConnell -3rd ID- 10 Posted March 10, 2010 Hopefully this won't get pushed to the 10th page in 5 minutes :). Anyway, being a part of a ArmA2 unit we hold an importance of communication in the battlefield. Teamspeak 2 as most of you know had the channel commander feature where you could talk to channel commanders in other channels without everyone hearing you. This was a wonderful feature but since the launch of Teamspeak 3, the feature is gone. Unless they add it back in. I am wondering for the units that have switched to Teamspeak 3, how do you achieve the same communication without channel commander. I am also wondering about Ventrilo and it's capabilities. From what I understand, Teamspeak tried to mimic Ventrilo's whispers in TS3.
Brainbug 10 Posted March 10, 2010 You could use a whisper list (Settings->Options, 8th item in the list on the left), i.e. dragging the people you want to whisper to into the list and then setting a hotkey for the list. The difference is that you decide who can hear you instead of the TS2 solution, where everyone could respectively had to switch on chan comm to be able to listen to you. Might be better or worse depending on your usage pattern.
Taxman 10 Posted March 10, 2010 you might be better off posting this in the multiplayer section, you may well get some more suggestions..... this is for squads and fan sites... REcruiting etc etc..
Serclaes 0 Posted March 11, 2010 We're using Teamspeak 3 almost since the release. The quality and speed made it difficult to go back. Until the release of arma2ts it was a bitch tho. But this addon solved all our problems.
Zeron 10 Posted March 12, 2010 use whisper lists. You can set up whisper groups, acts the same way as channel commander. It remembers who you added to the group so if you act with the same leaders its enough to do it once.

terox 316 Posted March 29, 2010 The TS3 devs have stated that they will be adding channel commander at some point during the development. Whisper lists to not have the same dynamic and ease of implementation functionality of Channel commander and when you try to bring the subject up with folks who do not understand how it is used you get nowhere. So it's just a ,matter of wait and see. What would be a good idea is for every player to download the ts3 plugin addon and then when a player joins a TS3 server you dont get the complete clusterf**k when you have a mix of those who do have it and those who dont. A possible good way to alleviate some of this would be to have the major mods include it as part of their mod.
galzohar 31 Posted March 29, 2010 If you have the same leaders all the time and they never die, then sure, a whisper list can work fine. But if you're playing a mission where people die at all (aka no respawn), then someone will have to take over command and that someone will not have time to set up his whisper list, not to mention the other commanders will also need to update their lists. All in all, not viable! What does work in TS3 is "whispering" to the whole "family" so that everyone can hear communication between groups. This has both advantages and disadvantages - Disadvantages are that group memebers hear command chat that is often not relevant to them, and the advantages are the group leaders don't have to repeat all commands to their group and won't have to tell them to shut up because they can't hear the channel commander through all the group chatter. Also while TS3 does not have channel commander, it's much much easier to understand what people are saying due to how terrible TS2's sound quality is. In the end TS2 VS TS3 currently is all up to personal preference and what you find more important to have in your squad.
Daniel 0 Posted March 29, 2010 We usually have more than one "channel commander key" set up. One for between NCOs, one for the whole channel family, and more if required (air, JOs, etc). Can't wait for the ArmA2TS update...
