Mister Frag 0 Posted April 9, 2002 The Paris Gun was a gun the Germans used to shell Paris during WWI. It was transported on railroad tracks, and had a range of over 70 miles. The Germans had to lay down two parallel railroad tracks for some of their large guns, both on the Western Front and in the East. Those tracks were laid specifically for the guns, and not used for train service (other than for resupplying efforts). I also once worked with an older gentleman who was in a USMC recon platoon during the Vietnam War. He told me a story about how a call for an airstrike against a concentration of enemy troops was actually answered by the battleship New Jersey, which had just arrived on station, and the presence of which was still secret at the time. They were told to find cover, and a few minutes later they heard a rumble that sounded like a freight train passing just overhead -- those were the shells of the New Jersey. Each shell wiped out an area approximately the size of a football field.
