arb 11 Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) latest version, ignore the textures as these need to be worked on, will also go in undergrowth neer the treelines so hopefully wont stand out too much. Have to use the V key to climb into the ditch. prone (looks massive this view but its not) I could use road Lod so that you can drop into the ditch but have to climb out. caprera 0 Posted March 9, 2010 Amazing undoubtely... ;) However my continous fear with buildings is the AI moving and keeping formation...so as it is now the less, the better
Razinski 10 Posted March 9, 2010 Yeah looks great! Maybe smooth the outer edges into the ground a little as this may stand out. Like you said with some undergrowth it could blend in pretty nice.
krazikilla 5 Posted March 9, 2010 make the defens line a bit thicker, so like 2-3 ppl fit in, not just one please. as you can see in the reallife picture, there fit like 3 ppl in. ingame just 1. and the walls also thicker and darker. else it looks daamn good :) lookin forward to it

arb 11 Posted March 9, 2010 anyone know how to stop clutter coming up through an object? is there something that needs to be done in O2.
=kct=blackmamba 44 Posted March 9, 2010 assuming u use a hightmap.... isnt it possible to paint those ditches in your hightmap somehow and texture those with a road texture ??? i think that would look closer to the picture and maybe helps holding the performance of your map to a certain level, cause it wont have to load the object... but i never tried mapping with visitor 3, its only a tought...:)

bushlurker 46 Posted March 9, 2010 You want the "cluttercutter" object Arb... it's just an invisible flat plane which blocks clutter.. cluttercutter For example - in your project folder make a folder called "Obj" - in beside "Source" will do fine - dump cutter object in there - add to visitor from that location and use as normal - it'll simply be included in your island file when you binarize... Take a look at eg: Duala's config if you want to include it in your island config so it's available to users in the editor... Looking really good now with your project... you've sussed the only way around the crappy 10m ground detail - more detailed objects that look like ground! =kct=blackmamba 44 Posted March 9, 2010 of course i realise it now, the faces are much to big for painting them in.. nevermind :a: this map looks realy promising

arb 11 Posted March 9, 2010 still a long way to go... (hidden amongst the clutter) (still needs some work, not sure if better with a bit of clutter or without) will keep going until I can get something that resembles these... http://www.bassirat.net/IMG/jpg/canal.jpg http://images.mirror.co.uk/upl/m4/aug2009/5/0/sniper-tom-mann-7366784.jpg http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/wp-content/photos/afghan007.JPG http://www.michaelyon-online.com/images/stories/nightintoday/IMG_2146.jpg http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/3632/sl12506bk8.jpg
Schancky 10 Posted March 9, 2010 Looking good arb! I think it would look better without the clutter in the ditches like http://www.bassirat.net/IMG/jpg/canal.jpg . You may want to make them look a bit more rugged, try a few different textures or try upping the bump mapping. Very nice work, as always ;)

I agree. need to check those textures you sent me to see if there is one that can be used.
Schancky 10 Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) I agree.need to check those textures you sent me to see if there is one that can be used. OK, I will have another browse around for some other ones. Just thinking you might want to add some differences in the shape and depth of the ditches so they look more like the pics above. EDIT: Just found these you may like: http://mayang.com/textures/Nature/images/Soil%20and%20Earth/dried_mud_4012098.JPG http://mayang.com/textures/Nature/images/Mud/dry_mud_9101049.JPG Edited March 9, 2010 by Schancky
soldier2390 0 Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) and as a sidenote...if you add a ditch into a steep enough hill, you could make it look like it dug in right in the middle of where the hill and flater sufaces meet! i saw a pic of this, but have not beable to find it. so if i do ill post it. EDIT: ok this is not the pic im talking about(i dont think its even in afghan), but it kinda has the same idea! exect the other side being flater..and possibly near a road or good point for an ambush! http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/07/31/article-1203501-05E98A35000005DC-565_468x309.jpg Edited March 9, 2010 by soldier2390
